First, there was the little black dress. Then, there was the little white dress. But what about the little pink dress? Well, I think the little pink dress should be a staple in every woman's wardrobe, especially if you are a color lover such as myself! This pink dress was a recent find from Target and I purchased it because I love the bright pink color and also that it's made out of a soft tee shirt type of material that makes it very comfortable and easy to wear in the summer! Below, you will find some other little pink dresses that I also love!
Speaking of color lovers, while this pink dress is very cute, I must admit that the rainbow staircase behind me might be stealing the show! These colorful stairs are the very "Instagramable" Micheltorena Steps in Silver Lake. I visited these stairs years ago and did photos in the exact same spot for my blog. Unfortunately, over the years, they fell into a state of disrepair and were heavily graffitied. Luckily, they were recently painted and now look better than ever!
I purchased this rainbow tulle skirt from J. Crew in the spring of 2020 right in the midst of the lock down. It was definitely not a practical purchase for the time, considering the fact that nobody could go anywhere then. Even if one wasn't in the midst of a lock down, a rainbow tulle skirt is not exactly an item of clothing that can be worn all the time. However, nearly two years later, I finally found an occasion to wear it. Perhaps I should say that I finally created an occasion to wear it! Last weekend, we went to Chinatown in Los Angeles and I thought this skirt was a perfect match for this fun building that is in the heart of the central plaza of Chinatown. I was definitely very dressed up for a stroll around Chinatown and for the burgers we got for lunch but I dressed the look down (if that's possible) with a love tee and a pair of sneakers, although the sneakers do have glitter on them!
There were a lot of people in Chinatown because this was the weekend before Lunar New Year. Chinatown has definitely gone through some changes since I first visited the area when I was in college. Now you can find a variety of restaurants, stores and art galleries in the area. As I mentioned, we chose to eat at a new burger place that is in the neighborhood, which was delicious! When we came back from our adventure, we decided to watch the film Chinatown, which really isn't about Chinatown and doesn't take place in Chinatown until the final scene but it was fun to have a day devoted to Chinatown, rainbow tulle and yummy burgers! They say nothing good happens in Chinatown but clearly that's not the case!
I took a little break from blogging recently, but I'm back, feeling
refreshed, and bursting with color! Last weekend, I was finally able to
get out and enjoy some things around the city. This included a trip to
the Arts District in Los Angeles, which is a vibrant section of the city
with lots of small shops, restaurants and, of course, colorful murals!
Originally, I wanted to see some of the new crochet murals by artist
London Kaye in this area. Unfortunately, the mural I wanted to take
photographs by was largely torn down and there was a impromptu band that
had set up to play music by it! Luckily, I spied this heart mural from
afar and it was the perfect match for this colorful Farm Rio leopard print cardigan
that I am featuring in today's post! I actually like this backdrop a
lot more than the original one I had planned, so it all worked out in
the end.
I am trying to discover new brands lately and one that I really love is
Farm Rio, which is where this cardigan is from. I love the wild,
colorful print of this sweater and the cozy oversized fit! All of Farm
Rio's clothing is quite colorful and fun, so I hope to buy some more
pieces from them in the future. If I do get any more pieces from them,
it will also provide me with another excuse to venture into the Arts
District to stumble upon another fun and funky wall there! After all,
there's always something new to discover in Los Angeles!
Happy Halloween! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and this year I went all out trying to find fun, free, and Instagramable locations in Los Angeles to celebrate the "spooky season." There's a lot of content I share on Instagram that I don't share on my blog, so I thought I would feature some of my favorite Instagram posts celebrating Halloween here on my blog today! The first one, featured above, is the gigantic pumpkin at the Citadel Outlets in the city of Commerce. They have a gigantic pumpkin called "Big Jack" that is adorable!

My second location is the Heritage Hill Historical Park in Lake Forest. This location features many historic buildings including the above school house from 1890. For Halloween, this park puts on a Fall-O-Ween celebration that is very family friendly and fun! I love how they decorated the school house with pumpkins for a lovely autumnal vibe!
When I was a child, Michael Jackson's Thriller was probably my favorite album. I would rock out in the car to the song "Thriller" and loved the music video as well. So, as you can imagine, it was "thrilling" as an adult to get to see the Thriller house where part of the iconic music video was filmed. This house can be found on Carroll Avenue near Echo Park in Los Angeles. While I didn't quite strike a Thriller-esque dance move here, I tried to look a little witchy and spooky in a black velvet dress. With an impressive street of Victorian houses that are all decorated for Halloween, this is one neighborhood that I wouldn't mind Trick-or-Treating in!

Last but not least, the Roast the Dead coffee shop in Yucaipa is the perfect place for any fans of classic horror films from the 80s. I don't drink coffee but the mural, featuring the likes of Freddy Krueger and Jason, makes it well worth the trek from Los Angeles. It's a fun place to visit if you're on your way to Apple Country or Palm Springs. Unfortunately, there was a line to get in, so I couldn't see the horror themed decor on the inside but I will have to go again to check it out when it's not so close to Halloween!
I feel like this post could be about me dressing up as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween or it could be about me checking more things off my L.A. bucket list by going to Pink's Hotdogs. Because it wasn't really my intent to dress up like Rosie the Riveter, I guess I will focus on Pink's Hotdogs instead! With that being said, if you want an easy Halloween costume idea, just buy a denim jumpsuit, throw a scarf on your head and strike a pose flexing your arm and you will have a pretty easy and awesome costume for Halloween! Plus, as an added bonus, you can use the jumpsuit all year round! Because this jumpsuit from Old Navy is currently sold out, I linked to some others below that are fabulous for any occasion, Halloween included.
So, getting back to Pink's Hotdogs, I have wanted to go to this retro hotdog stand that's been around since 1939 for the longest time! A couple of things gave me pause about visiting so I kept putting it off. One thing that I had reservations about were the crowds. I read in the reviews that you can wait for hours to get one of their hotdogs. A second thing was that many people said that the food is overpriced and not as good as it used to be. After seeing a Huell Howser show on Pink's Hotdogs, I decided I had to go. Besides, the food looked really good, at least on TV, so I decided it was now or never and I might as well bite the bullet and check it out!
Well, we picked a cool, overcast day for our visit to Pink's and arrived before noon. We discovered that there were no lines, although I did stop and take some photos of the awesome pink exterior and a short line did develop during that time, much to my husband's chagrin! When we sat down with our food, which consisted of chili cheese dogs and onion rings. We were pleasantly surprised that they were delicious! Yes, they are a little overpriced at around $7 a piece, but I suppose you are paying for the history, the name and access to the amazing pink wall with the Pink's logo on it! (Actually, you can take pictures here for free.) Also, now I can check another thing off of my L.A. bucket list, which always feels good!
Last weekend, we went to West Hollywood, which just might have the highest concentration of colorful, walls, murals and other "Instagramable" places in the Los Angeles area! I love going there because, obviously, there is a photo opportunity around every corner, although this, among other reasons, is why my husband hates this area, which just goes to prove that one woman's dream is another man's nightmare! Well, I wanted to wear something that would go with all of the murals, so this lilac boilersuit from Target turned out to be the perfect "uniform" to look cool while simultaneously matching with all of the art found in the area!
Like I said, this boilersuit was a great option to wear because it's not only comfy and cool but it also seems to go with just about everything! Below, I'm linking to some other similar options if you are really in the mood to get your own lilac boilersuit for strolling down Melrose Avenue or for any other place you might want to go!
On a final note, this mural is located on the side of a business called Fab Fit Fun in West Hollywood, just for those of you who are in the area and want to go on your own mural hunting adventure! I will warn you that when we were visiting this location, we encountered a man camping out here that was yelling at the mural and us and talking to himself, so I guess I would say: proceed with caution, which is just good advice in general, no matter where you go. I suppose you could also say that these types of things just add to the idea that trekking through Los Angeles is always an adventure, no matter where you go!
