Colorful Striped Pencil Skirt

 

I've been waiting for a while to wear this colorful striped pencil skirt from Milly. I purchased it a couple months ago, but I just never got around to wearing it. I also purchased the matching cardigan that looks very cute when paired with the pencil skirt. However, it's very hot here (it is the middle of summer, after all!) and I just couldn't bear to put on a sweater and take photos in this heat! Maybe when the fall rolls around and the weather cools off, which isn't usually until November here in Southern California, I can photograph the two pieces together. Anyway, both the skirt and the sweater are now on sale at Milly, so now is a great time to snag them and hold on to them for the upcoming fall months!

 

One item that I am getting a lot of use out of this summer is my light blue Teddy Blake bag! The light blue color is really perfect in the summer months and it ties into one of the many colors of this skirt. Obviously, many colors would go with this skirt, but I wanted to go with a hue that was on the lighter side for summer. When you see me style this skirt again in the cooler months, I might go with a red bag, but cooler weather seems like such a long time away!

Party Skirt

 

The colorful dot print and the layered tiers of this skirt from Milly just screams "Party!", in my opinion! Milly is a new brand for me and, to be honest, I don't know how I came across this particular skirt. (It might have been an ad on Facebook, which seems to know my shopping habits and tastes a little too well, if you know what I mean!) Still, I fell in love with it immediately! While we were taking these pictures, the gentle breeze that we had on this particular day kept lifting up the layers of this skirt. While this was a bit of a nuisance and while these tiers of fabric might not be the most practical thing, it does make the skirt very fun and playful!

 

I wanted to play up the color of this skirt by adding a tee shirt that was a similar color to the dominant color found in the skirt. I thought this citron color tee that I just recently purchased was a perfect match! Because it is now officially fall and it's time to wear more muted colors, I could also see pairing this skirt with a brown or maroon sweater to make it more subdued. However, since this is such a fun, playful skirt, it would be difficult tone it down too much, which is something I would never want to do!

Polka Dots With a Twist

I have a lot of polka dot skirts but I love this midi length one from SheIn, so I had to add it to my collection! While I have more than a few polka dot themed items, I like how this particular skirt has tiny scattered dots and buttons running down the length of the skirt, so I suppose it's a little bit different than the polka dot skirts I already own. I guess you could say SheIn put their own "twist" on the classic polka dot skirt!

Speaking of putting a twist on things, I'm finally getting around to wearing this statement tee from J. Crew. This past summer, I loved all of the statement tees from J. Crew, such as this one with cocktail or drink themed statements like "Over Ice" or "With a Twist". The one I am wearing today that states "With a Twist" is now drastically reduced, so you can get it and save it for next summer or, if you have hot weather like what we are experiencing here in Los Angeles you can wear it now! I feel like I really should have worn this tee with a cocktail in my hand but I guess a fun rainbow clutch will have to do!

Happy in Houndstooth

Lately, I've been giving a lot of love to all of my plaid print items in anticipation of Christmas and, although I do adore plaid, I think one of my favorite patterns of all time is houndstooth! Houndstooth is a great pattern because it's classic but it's also modern as well, because it's a graphic; it's the best of both worlds! I have a lot of houndstooth items, ranging from shoes to skirts to blazers, but the one thing that was missing from my houndstooth collection was a coat! That's why I was so happy to find this houndstooth coat from SheIn, which was also a great deal at only $35! Currently, my coat is sold out, but SheIn has an equally fantastic houndstooth coat here that's even less at only $22!

Luckily, this coat arrived just in time for the "cooler" weather here in Los Angeles. Originally, I was thinking of doing an outfit featuring this coat with all black and white, which would be abnormal for me since I adore color so much. Well, I couldn't quite do the all black and white thing, so I added a few pops of colors in the form of my Kate Spade taxi cab flat shoes, rainbow clutch, and pink sunglasses. All of these accessories really pop against the black and white of the houndstooth, which just another reason why I adore this print so much, because it's so versatile!

Shirtdresses: You Can Never Have Too Many!

I think I might have an obsession with shirtdresses! In particular, I am obsessed with this gingham one from J. Crew Factory. My obsession runs so deep that I decided to buy this shirtdress in two colors: green and black! I don't know what it is about the shirtdress but as a wardrobe staple, I find them to be very versatile. They are comfortable, classic, and you can just throw one on with a cute clutch like this rainbow Milly one and you're all ready to go!

In case you were wondering, this fun geometric wall, which is the backdrop for my shirtdress today, is located in Long Beach. The wall is located alongside an auto shop and it has a cool, industrial feel. It reminds me that I still have to compile my Los Angeles wall guide. (As you can see, I am prone to not only obsessing over shirtdresses but also to procrastination!) Anyway, this fun wall will definitely make the cut when I get around putting my list together!

Face to Face

I love this face top from SheIn so much that I just had to wear it next to a wall with "love" written all over it! Plus, at a price point that's under $15, what's not to love? I received so many compliments regarding this top the day I wore it and it's easy to see why: the face detailing makes it so unique and I just love the red lips! (Of course my lips had to match!) The other detail that makes this top phenomenal, especially give the price point, is the fun ruffle sleeves! You definitely can't go wrong with something that's essentially a classic white blouse with just enough colorful and quirky details added for fun.

I shot this outfit at the famous "Love Wall" in Culver City. The last time I went to this wall, it was the weekend before Valentine's Day, which is definitely NOT the time to go there, as there was literally a line of women, children, couples, and dogs, all waiting to take their picture! This time around, however, there was no one but unfortunately the lighting conditions were less than ideal, as you might be able to tell from the pictures. There was also a fair amount of wind, which I could have also done without. Regardless of these drawbacks, I still really do LOVE this wall!

Somewhere Over the Purple Rainbow

Last January, I searched in vain for this gorgeous purple, blue and pink wall located in North Hollywood. (You can read about that saga in my post entitled A Silver Lining to my Wall Woes, and, as you can see, I like to make my wall hunting escapades into epic dramas!) Anyway, after I put on my detective's hat, I eventually realized that this wall was located on the backside of an apartment building, facing a bike path. After the mystery was solved, I decided to make a pilgrimage back there at some point in time. That pilgrimage happened last weekend since we were in the area anyway seeing some friends for lunch.

I decided to keep it casual yet colorful with some fun accents in this outfit. If you read my last post, you'll know that I am dabbling again into the world of earrings, but have found that some are just too heavy for my delicate ear lobes. This pink tassel pair from Sugarfix are the perfect solution to this. They are big enough and bright enough to make a statement, but I could easily wear them all day with no discomfort. As a result, I bought several more pairs in different colors!

Last off all, I am wearing my new embellished "Jackie" cardigan from J. Crew. It seemed like everyone bought this sweater and this is understandable, because it's a fantastic color and most importantly it has sequins. I actually stole the idea of pairing the yellow cardigan with pink tassel earrings from the J. Crew catalog because it seemed like a great idea and it matched the wall!
