Pink Velvet Suit

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Did you shop any of the Black Friday sales or are you planning on shopping online for Cyber Monday? It seems like the sales are starting earlier and earlier every year. This year I started getting Black Friday emails a couple of weeks before the actual day! This pink suit comprised of a velvet pink blazer and matching pink velvet pants is one of the things I picked up on sale a couple of weeks ago from J. Crew for a pre-Black Friday special. Last year I got a similar pink velvet suit but it was a darker color. I really love the "Barbie" vibes of this particular shade of pink, which is why I couldn't resist it!

We took these pictures at one of my favorite murals in Pasadena. You probably have seen it at least a few times on my Instagram because it tends to be the perfect backdrop for anyone who loves color as much as I do! Anyway, as we were taking the photos my husband said that I looked like the female Willy Wonka in this particular suit! He always makes funny comments when taking my photos. Anyway, that's all I could think about during these photos and to be honest, he's kind of right! Well, I take that comment as a compliment!

Striking a Pose

A jumpsuit as striking as this one calls for striking a pose and that's exactly what I am doing! I recently picked up this colorful jumpsuit from Anthropologie on sale a few weeks ago and it's definitely going to become one of my favorite jumpsuits! I love that the colors in the print are perfect for transitioning to fall. It's always hard this time of year to find things to wear that are comfortable for warmer temps but still nod to the autumnal season. This jumpsuit definitely fits the bill thanks to the color palette!

I also love that the pattern of this mural echos the pattern in the jumpsuit! There are lots of fun shapes and patterns in both the mural and the print that add visual interest. Speaking of which, this mint colored hat also adds a lot of visual interest to the outfit! I love to wear hats all year and I was so excited when I found this mint one at Target because it's one color that I don't already have in my hat collection!

Pink Striped Maxi Skirt

I just got this pink and white maxi skirt and I wanted to wear it before it gets to officially be fall, which is right around the corner! It's hard to believe that it's almost October, although the weather here lately in California surprisingly feels very much like fall, which doesn't usually happen until much later in the year. Anyway, I was happy to get this skirt, which I had been looking at all summer, on sale! I thought it would be the perfect thing to wear out to dinner last week for a night on the town! Of course, I had to pair it with some green accessories, including this new green clutch, because green and pink is one of my favorite color combinations.

Just a quick note about the location: these photos were taken at Pasadena City Hall. If you are not familiar with this location, it was actually the setting for the exterior shots of Pawnee City Hall on the TV show, Parks and Rec. Pasadena City Hall is also a very popular location for people to do professional photography for weddings and other events. The fountain that appears in a couple of these pictures is the most popular place for photos, so I lucked out when it was free for a few minutes so that I could get some pictures by it!

Spring Sweater (Feather) Weather

The weather here in Los Angeles has been all over the place lately! Last week, it was warm and sunny, but this week will be colder and rainy. As a result, I've been going back and forth between my summer clothing and winter clothing. If I need to find winter clothing to wear this time of the year, I try to look for sweaters and coats that are in light or pastel colors so that I still look appropriate for spring. A perfect example of an item of clothing I might reach for with the crazy weather we've been having lately is this pink and white sweater, which is perfect for this transition of weather, because the colors are light and bright, but it still keeps me warm in cooler temperatures. The bonus is that it has light pink feathers on the sleeves, so what's not to love?!

I will be completely honest: my husband hates all my clothing with feathers and claims it will be a short-lived trend. While the latter is probably true, I still love anything with feathers, and I think it's a detail that takes something ordinary and turns it into something to extraordinary and unique! Because I'm on the subject of details making a difference in your wardrobe, let me also point out how much I love these Hush Puppies Hazel flats that ended up being the perfect match with my sweater. While feathers might be a trend, I think a comfy, classic flat in a fun color will never go out of style!

Color Crush

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago to celebrate the New Year with my family and watch the Rose Parade (on TV of course, not in person!). Originally, I purchased this Liberty button down shirt to go with a blazer that I thought was supposed to be the same color, but when I got the shirt it wasn't quite the right match color-wise. The shirt did end up being just the right match for these purple tie pants that I recently got from Ann Taylor. I love the way the orange-ish pink color of the shirt looks with the purple color of the pants!

I accessorized my look with some bright green pumps, my leopard clutch and these new Gucci sunglasses that I got as a Christmas gift this year. Much like the shirt, the sunglasses are supposed to be pink, but in reality I think they are more of an orange color that is reminiscent of terracotta. Regardless, the color is beautiful in my opinion and a perfect match for this outfit! I also look forward to wearing them much more in the new year!

Pink Plaid

Now that it's December, plaid season is in full swing! I love all types of plaid, but my favorite is probably anything that has pink in it! I love pink plaid because it's festive for the holidays, but it's also bright and colorful! So, when I saw that J. Crew came out with a pink plaid print this year, I naturally had to get both the pants that I'm wearing in today's post and also the button down slim shirt. (I also might have to spring for the matching blazer as well!) I love that these pink plaid pants can be paired with fun shades of pink, like my pink cashmere sweater here, and pastel colors, like my mint crossbody bag!

I have not posted that many J. Crew outfits on my blog over the last year or so, because I haven't been that excited about the brand and what they've offered over the last few seasons. However, this month, they have really hit it out of the park with fun, colorful clothing in sumptuous fabrics, such as velvet, sequins and satin. Because of this, I went all out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and bought quite a few items I love. Thus, you will be seeing many more J. Crew looks in the upcoming weeks! Speaking of old vs. new J. Crew, these pink satin shoes represent J. Crew from a few years ago. I love them so much and I thought they would be the perfect complement to the pink plaid. Plus, they have bows for the holidays, so they are also very festive!

Cozy Yellow Coat

It's now in the mid 60s here in Los Angeles (tomorrow it might actually be in the 50s!), so these "frigid" temperatures mean that it's time to start breaking out my coats! Despite living in a very warm climate, I actually have a lot of coats; some might call it an addiction! I love the way coats allow you to add an extra layer of color to any outfit, just like this yellow Sam Edelman coat that I picked up this year during Black Friday. I have coats in just about every color, but, believe it or not, yellow, is the one color missing from my collection! So, when I saw this bright yellow coat on sale last week, I knew I had to get it and I have actually worn it several times in the last week to keep warm in the "cold" weather here in Los Angeles!

My rainbow sweater in this post represents another type of clothing item that I'm obsessed with (i.e., colorful striped sweaters!), and it was also purchased around Black Friday this year. The sweater is from Gap and every year around the holidays they come out with a "Happy Stripe" sweater that I always have to buy because they are so colorful and cute! At this point, I have quite the collection of Gap "Happy Stripe" sweaters, but I also get a ton of use out of these sweaters during the short season here when it's cold enough for sweaters. Sweater weather and coat season might be brief here in Southern California, but I try to make the most out of it!

Yellow and White Dress in Umbrella Alley

Summer is, unfortunately, winding down, but I'm trying to make the best of my remaining vacation time! In addition to school starting up again soon, another reminder that summer is almost over are all of the end of summer sales many stores are having, which is good, because there are some great deals out there! Take, for example, this gorgeous yellow and white dress from Ann Taylor that I just got a great deal on a couple weeks ago. Luckily for me, it feels like summer almost all year round here in Southern California, so I can get a little extra wear out of summer pieces like this dress!

One of the things on my summer to do list was visiting the city of Redlands where these gorgeous, colorful umbrellas are located. There's just something about these umbrellas that fills me with joy and I can't get enough of them! Redlands is a very charming city with some gorgeous architecture, quaint restaurants, and cute art installations!  While I've been to Umbrella Alley before, it was fun to revisit the location and take a stroll through these delightful umbrellas in my yellow and white dress!
