My Headband Habit

This winter, I said I would only get a couple of these turban knot style headbands. Well, buying one or two turned into six or seven and, to be honest, I kind of became addicted! Well, I'm back at this headband obsession for spring and the good news is that the headbands for spring are even cuter than the ones for winter, in my opinion! I am especially loving gingham headbands, including the cute pink one that I am sporting below. It instantly makes a plain, casual outfit, like this grey sweatshirt, look super cute!

Wearing a headband is also perfect for what we are all going through right now regarding staying at home and sheltering in place. First of all, if you have to do a Zoom meeting, it's an easy way to look cute and put together from the shoulders up with pretty much no effort! Also, because there is no going to the salon, everyone's hair is a mess! Headbands are a good way to cover up or distract from the fact that maybe your roots are showing or, in my case, your bangs have grown out! (I was right on the verge of needing to get a haircut before all of this happened, so there's no telling what my hair will look like after this is all over!) So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that now is the perfect time to become addicted to headbands! Below are a handful of my favorites for spring or to start or to continue your addiction!

Walking on Sunshine

I'm trying very hard to be optimistic and upbeat even though summer vacation is coming to an end. This summer has really flown by but I can't complain because it's been a great summer filled with a wonderful balance of rest, relaxation, and fun! Also, as they say, all good things must come to an end. (I suppose this sunny yellow pom pom top helps to match the disposition I am trying to have about the end of summer!) Well, one of the ways that I'm dealing with the end of summer is to check some of the things off my list of things to do and see in Los Angeles, as it's basically endless!

Over the last couple weeks, some of the things that I checked off of my to do list involved food, as it was Dine L.A. week in Los Angeles. Dine L.A. is an event in which local restaurants offer prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner at reduced prices, which allows one to discover new places to dine or to visit old favorites at a bargain price! I've been wanting to try HiHo Cheeseburger, a relatively new burger joint in Santa Monica, for quite some time now, as well as take a look at some of the newer walls in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica has some amazing walls! In fact, the city's website even has a guide to where all of the walls and murals are located, which makes tracking them down very easy. This brick mural has been on my list for a while. It used to be primarily just orange and blue in its color scheme but it apparently received a face lift recently. It was definitely an explosion of color and made me feel like I was walking on sunshine in the beautiful city of Santa Monica! So, with the good burgers, colorful walls, and fresh sea breeze, my visit to Santa Monica was a great experience to help take my mind off of the fact that summer is rapidly coming to an end!

Christmas Dog Tee

I love dogs and I love Christmas, so this J. Crew Factory tee featuring dogs of all shapes and sizes bedecked in Christmas lights is right up my alley! (As a side note, for any cat lovers out there, there's also a cat on the tee too!) Since the weather was on the warmer side last weekend, it was nice to be able to wear a tee shirt, yet still look festive and keep with the Christmas spirit at the same time. For places where the weather is not so warm this time of year, this tee shirt would also look very cute layered with a sweater.

I decided to go all out in looking festive and paired my Christmas dog tee with a plaid mini-skirt. I own quite a few plaid skirts but this particular one probably gets the most wear, as it seems to go with just about everything. I also really love the elastic waist, which makes it very versatile and comfortable. To top off the look, I added this red bow belt and my red Gucci tassel bag because every Christmas look needs a pop of red in the accessory department!

Rainbows for Fall

I feel like my new rainbow stripe skinny scarf from Daisy Faye Designs was made just for me due to its colorful, fun vibe! It's also what inspired the theme of today's post, which is all things rainbow for fall! This week, I was wearing the colorful scarf as both an accent around my neck and as a bow adorning my bag, when I realized that rainbow and rainbow stripes need not be for only spring and summer. Yes, rainbow stripes can definitely be worn all year round! As someone who adores color, this was quite the relief!

Fall vs. Flamingo

The last weekend of summer is over and people are now beginning to think of fall. Soon, many will be donning sweaters and plaid, purchasing Halloween decorations and, of course, there's the very controversial release of pumpkin spiced lattes from Starbucks! Yes, fall is most certainly almost here for many! As someone who lives in a climate that's still regularly ninety plus degrees, however, I'm definitely not ready to let summer go just yet and, for the practical reason of staying cool, I can't really dress for fall, even if I wanted to! As you can see, I definitely will not be flocking to fall outfits anytime soon!

This flamingo skirt may be a bit summery but I will definitely be wearing it for a little while longer. I know flamingos aren't exactly what comes to mind when you think of fall, but why can't they be a bird for all seasons? This pink ruffle top could be considered summery too but I could easily imagine pairing this skirt with a pastel sweater once the temperatures start to cool down a little. I guess you could say that in the battle between fall versus flamingo, the flamingos have won out, for now at least!

Flamingos, Stripes, and Paint Splats

If this pleated skirt looks vaguely familiar to you, it might because I have the dress version in the same multi-colored stripe print. In fact, I featured this dress last month in a post entitled Target Does it Again. Clearly Target did it again and again because I like the pattern so much that I also bought the skirt version of the dress! One of the things I love about this skirt is that it looks fabulous with just about everything, including this fabulous paint splat wall!

In addition to matching with the mural behind me, I feel like this skirt was made to be worn with a statement tee. I tried the skirt with about three or four different statement tees and ultimately came to the conclusion that I wanted to wear it this time with with my pink sequin flamingo tee. Truth be told, this combination wasn't totally my idea, as I stole it from one of the outfits I saw on Talizat's Instagram. I love Tarilyn's style and we also have very similar items in our closets, so it's easy to just shop my closet and recreate many of her looks! Luckily, we both had this flamingo tee from last year, so it was simple to put this outfit together! It's in the Bag!

I'm officially a fan of the paper-bag waist-style shorts! After buying several pairs, including these red and white striped pair from H&M, I can't imagine wearing any other style for summer! While that might be a bit of an over-exaggeration, I'm definitely smitten with this style of shorts! I hope these types of shorts will stay around for years to come, as it seems like it's a classic. If not, however, none of the pairs I purchased were all that expensive. In fact, there are many affordable options in this style, some of which I'm showcasing below.

I decided to pair my paper-bag waist-style shorts with my "California" collector's tee. Since I live in California, this tee was a must have for my growing statement tee collection. Whenever I wear this tee, I always pair it with my watermelon bag, not because watermelons are quintessentially Californian but because the tee has a random watermelon on it! (I'm not sure why.) Plus, the watermelon looks great with red and white stripes, so it was the natural choice for this look.
