Multi-Color Stripe Shirtdress

It's been a while since I've been really excited about a piece from either J. Crew or J. Crew factory but, when I saw this colorful striped shirtdress, I knew it had my name written all over it! I love shirtdresses, stripes, but most of all, I love color! The colorful stripes featured on this dress are so perfect for summer! I also love the length and style of this dress, which makes it something that I can wear all summer long, but also something I can wear to work when I go back in a couple of months. (I am officially out on summer break!)

The colors in this dress also make it fun to accessorize! I went through my drawer of earrings and found these colorful raffia and tassel earrings that matched the colors in my dress perfectly! I also added some more pops of color (you can never have too many pops of color!) with my turquoise bag and green pom pom sandals. This is definitely a colorful look that has helped me to kick off my summer vacation in style!

Leopard and Bunnies

Last week, this leopard shirt dress arrived in the mail. I love the 1950s housewife vibe of the silhouette, albeit mixed with a fun, modern take on leopard print! Since we had a cool and overcast weekend and the colors of this dress are perfect for fall, I wanted to take my dress out for a stroll right away. My only question was what to wear in terms of footwear with my new purchase.  Well, J. Crew's website provided a little inspiration because they styled this dress with a pair of black and white loafers, which seemed like pure styling genius. At first I was dismayed that I didn't have a similar pair of shoes and then I remembered that I did indeed, in the form of these cute bunny loafers!

I don't wear these bunny loafers a lot but when I do, they sure turn heads! Much like the dress, the idea of the shoe is very classic but with a fun and unexpected twist once you realize that the loafers have ears! I was in the supermarket in this outfit and a few people did stop to compliment me on my footwear. So, while this look might have 1950s house wife written all over it due to the shirt dress and round vintage bag, it's definitely the look of a very quirky and stylish housewife who apparently loves animals and animal prints!

Shaping Up

I love a fun, playful geometric print, which is exactly what this shirt dress from Anthropologie has to offer! I fell in love with the dress as soon as it landed in the new arrival section on Anthropologie's website (especially because it's from one of my favorite designers, Corey Lynn Calter), however, I waited a little bit to buy it. What was it that finally got me to make the purchase? Well, after seeing it featured on Instagram, I was smitten by how great it looked and it was then that I knew it had to be mine! I guess that just shows you the power of influencers!

My discovery of this wall was also a result of the influence of social media, as one of my favorite Pasadena Instagram accounts featured it months ago and inspired me to go seek it out! Much like my dress, the mural features a host of playful shapes and designs, which makes it the perfect backdrop for what I'm wearing! I wore the dress to a lovely dinner that featured champagne pairings with each course. I guess I like to think of my outfit and mural pairings as something similar to a chef figuring out what wine to pair with a meal. Perhaps the pairings don't always work out but when they do, it's so satisfying!

The Perfect Wall for the Perfect Dress

When I saw this rainbow striped dress online at Anthropologie, my jaw dropped! It was such a fun pattern with all the colors and the wavy striped print! Much like the dress, my jaw also dropped when I saw this fabulous wall! I found it on Instagram, which is where I get a lot of my inspiration for locations to use for my photos. Luckily, someone had already asked where it was located and so I didn't need to do much leg work to find it. I was surprised to find out that the location wasn't on the side of a  hip boutique or coffee shop but, rather, on the side of an Albertson's supermarket! If I lived in the area, I would do all of my grocery shopping at this supermarket just to see the wall...and maybe use it as an excuse to take some photos!

This wall occupies the entire side of Albertson's supermarket, so it's pretty big! What I love most about the wall is that if you look at it closely, it's not just a bunch of wavy abstract shapes and swaths of color: it's actually a depiction of Los Feliz, which is the city where the mural is located. The mural also depicts the Griffith Observatory, which is visible from Los Feliz. I was so pleased that this dress turned out to be the perfect complement to my new favorite wall! Now, if I could just convince my local supermarket to follow the example of the Los Feliz Albertson's and put up a fun mural in my neck of the woods, I would be set!

Dots, Rainbows and...Rhinos?

Sometimes you find really cool things in unexpected places and you just have to make sure you keep your eyes peeled! Take, for example, this dot shirt dress that's actually from Target but that looks like it's from someplace like J. Crew. This rainbow clutch is another great find from Target, although it looks just like a bag I was thinking about getting from Ferragamo that was way more expensive! Both pieces definitely look more like designer pieces but I was lucky to have found them at Target. It's a good thing that I spend so much time shopping at Target, even if I should be shopping there for essentials and food as opposed to clothing!

Another example of finding something in an unexpected place is this fun mural that I stumbled upon while driving down Route 66 one day. I saw it out of the corner of my eye when we happened to be in this area, one that's definitely not known for its murals and walls in the way that West Hollywood or Venice is. If you look closely, you'll see that this conglomeration of licence plates actually makes up a huge rhino! I'm glad I spotted it because it's pretty cool, in my opinion, not to mention that it's a great backdrop for this spotted and rainbow outfit!

Topiary Dress at Greystone Mansion

This spring break we revisited Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills for a tour of the historic 50,000 square foot house. It's definitely a grand estate, with a very sordid past involving the murder of oil tycoon Edward Doheny's son. In addition to the very scandalous back story of the mansion, it's also a popular filming location, which you've probably seen as the backdrop to at least one movie or TV show, my favorite being The Big Lebowski. I thought this topiary shirt dress would be the perfect dress to wear while exploring the house and strolling around its stately grounds!

If you look closely, the print of this dress features the most adorable animal topiaries! From lions to giraffes, these animal topiaries would probably feel right at home in the beautiful gardens that grace Greystone Mansion. I definitely wouldn't mind living at Greystone Mansion either and I suppose if I did, I could have the gardeners create topiaries to match my dress! That would definitely make for an epic blog post! Well, maybe if I start playing the lottery, that dreamscould become a reality but, for now, I'll just have to settle for the dress!
