A Lust for Lemons

I don't think I could count on one hand, or even two, how many posts I've done featuring lemon print items! Well, here's another one, this time in the form of a slightly abstract lemon print skirt. Since lemon prints are traditionally worn in the spring and summer months, I hesitated featuring this skirt now that it's officially fall but my love for lemons is strong, so I thought that, perhaps, lemons can transcend seasons. Why not?

Today was actually our first day here in L.A. that felt like it was fall; we had overcast skies and even some rain! Despite weather that looks like fall, the temperature is still somewhat warm and muggy (Yuck!). Because it was somewhat gloomy out, I thought that a little bit of yellow, bright green, and a pop of pink in the form of my bag would be perfect to brighten things up. I guess that just goes to show that when life (or the weather) gives you lemons, make lemonade or, in this case, wear a lemon skirt!

Stripes, Sequins and Palm Trees

When I saw this striped sequin palm tree tee at Target, it went straight into my cart! Plus, the under $20 price made it all the more enticing! While I've said this probably a million times before, Target is really killing it for the spring/summer season. In fact, today I got a package in the mail with a few more articles of clothing from Target! I am really looking forward to styling these pieces and debuting them soon on the blog!

In terms of styling for this outfit, I decided to keep it simple with a denim skirt and white sneakers. Truth be told, these white sneakers (also from Target) were probably one of the best investments I've made for spring! I wear them all a time and found that they are a comfortable alternative to dress shoes for work. The fact that they look cute with everything from jeans to dresses make them incredibly versatile. For a pop of color I added a pink bag. I love the combination of pink and green so it's the perfect accent to the little green sequins on the top.

Strictly for the Birds

It's been a busy week for me, but I still found a little time to have a leisurely lunch out. Due to the heat and doing a ton of things around the house, I've been wearing pretty casual clothes lately like shorts, tees and sneakers, but I decided to dress up a bit for my lunch date. This included debuting my amazing black and white floral skirt from SheIn, which made me feel like my glamorous self once again!

I love anything that has black and white stripes; there is something so classic and chic about the look! Because of my love for black and white stripes, I have accumulated a substantial collection of striped tees, skirts and dresses. Even though I have a million black and white articles of clothing, I loved the greenery and birds that are featured on this midi-length skirt. You might think this attention to detail is strictly for the birds but, as you know, I am all about quirky details!

Magnum P.I. Pants

I was instantly smitten with these very loud, tropical pants the moment I saw them on the Old Navy website. Oddly, it was a comment my husband made about the pants after I purchased them that made me love them even more. The pants were laid out on the bed and as my husband passed by he commented on the similarity between the print of my pants and Tom Selleck's iconic Hawaiian shirt that he wore on the classic 80s show Magnum P.I. Being a child of the 80s, I have fond memories of the show and of Tom Selleck. (I mean that mustache, come on!) So I took the off-handed comment from my husband as a compliment, rather than a dig. Now I just need a cool Ferrari and my look would officially be complete!

If you took just a quick glance at these photos, you might think that they were taken at the Paul Smith Wall on Melrose, which is another icon, at least for people like me who are obsessed with taking Instagram photos by colorful walls. A closer inspection, however, will reveal that this wall is actually not the signature shade of pink of the Paul Smith wall, but it's still pretty and pink. It is also located much closer to me in comparison to the Melrose wall and there was no one there, which is in stark contrast to the crowds of people that flock to the Paul Smith wall every day. Given this, I am just going to keep this wall's location my little secret!

A Top to Turn Heads

When I first saw this shirt online at Zara, I knew I loved the print (flamingos, hello?), but I wasn't sure about the cut, which is somewhat cropped with wide "dolman" style sleeves. Luckily, the reasonable prices at Zara make it easy to try out trendy items without a huge investment. Given this, I decided to purchase the shirt and I am glad I did. I recently wore the shirt to the mall and I had a ton of people stop to compliment me on it. One such woman was the manager of a Chanel boutique who came running out of the store to ask me where it was from. While it might just seem to be a regular tee with flamingos and other tropical birds on it, apparently it is quite the show stopper!

This spring I have been buying a lot of my wardrobe at Zara...maybe too much! Quite frankly, after having a carpenter redo my closet this week and, as a result of this, reorganizing all of my clothing, I have come to realize that I probably shouldn't be adding anything to my wardrobe.  Although I definitely have enough clothing (without a doubt, it could stylishly outfit a small country!), I can't pass up any cute items I come across, especially if they are offered for great prices, which, I guess, is just my Achilles heel!

All of the Colors!

My husband and I went to a French restaurant last weekend, so of course I had to break out this fun sweatshirt from J. Crew that lists a variety of different colors in French. I've had the sweatshirt for a while now, but, like with a lot of things, I just never got around to wearing it. Since the weather was a little cooler this weekend, it was the perfect time to wear it while indulging in some good French food! (French food and fashion of course, just happen to be among my favorite things!)

Although this sweatshirt came out for winter, I put a springtime touch on the outfit with the addition of a pink houndstooth skirt. This skirt is from quite a few years ago, but it's one of my favorites and it goes with so many things in my wardrobe; I'm always reinventing it! Even though it's an older piece, I did find a very similar houndstooth skirt from a different retailer that you can shop below.

Last but not least, let me just comment on this wall, which, like my sweatshirt, is so colorful. (This is actually the same wall as the one here.) I purposely used a different part of it for variety and also out of necessity because there was an older gentlemen on a stool having his photo professionally taken for what seemed like a very long time, making that part of the wall unusable. It's always fun to see the people who, like myself, are hardcore wall enthusiasts! I think it takes a special type of crazy to actively seek out walls for photos!

A Stroll Through the Garden

Last weekend, my husband and I did several things that involved flowers. I thought this was appropriate because it is the first week of spring after all! The first flower-themed excursion of the weekend involved visiting the cherry blossoms at Descanso Gardens. While I will be posting more photos of the gorgeous cherry blossom trees and some of the flowers blooming in the garden at a later date on my blog, today I am sharing what I wore to take a leisurely stroll through these verdant gardens. (Actually, the stroll through the gardens ended up not being so leisurely due to heavy road traffic, scarce parking and long lines to get into the gardens, so we only had about an hour before the gates closed!)

First, this Kate Spade "Multi Cape" striped shirtdress was a piece I lusted after last spring, however I waited too long to purchase it and it eventually sold old. A couple months ago, however, I got a second shot at purchasing the dress when it popped up during a Kate Spade "Surprise Sale". If you also missed out on these opportunities, the good news is that it's back! You can find the dress here on the most recent Kate Spade surprise sale for only $129, which is a steal compared to the retail price of $400.

I paired the dress with a denim jacket for a more casual look. Even though I am definitely not in need of another denim jacket,  I justified this purchase with the rationale that this is my first embroidered denim jacket, so technically it's not something I already have hanging up in my closet. Plus, it was on sale at Old Navy for under $30, so why not? If you are considering this jacket, be forewarned that it does run a little small, however I actually purchased an extra small for a fitted feel. Below are some other embroidered denim options for those of you who also need an excuse to add another denim jacket to your closet!

Below you will see the rest of my photos featuring my picture perfect outfit for the beginning of spring. I had trouble choosing the images I wanted to use for this post because there were so many lovely backdrops for photos at Descanso Gardens and I am pretty much head over heels in love with this dress! It's almost like the dress was made for me, not to mention a stroll through a gorgeous garden, which I am sure is what Kate Spade had in mind when she designed it!
