Halloween Outfit Ideas

I love all of the holidays, but Halloween is probably my favorite! I definitely love decorating, dressing and finding fun places to celebrate the spooky season. With Halloween right around the corner, I have pulled out some of my favorite Halloween looks to celebrate! I'm starting with this cute purple ghost cardigan! While we normally associate just wearing black with dressing for Halloween, you can also make it colorful as I did by pairing this purple ghost sweater with bright pink pants!

Next, I'm just batty about this fun tulle bat skirt! I love that it's got a little bit of orange underneath for a bit of color! I paired the skirt with this feather tee shirt from J. Crew because the feathers are chic but can also be a bit spooky!

Last off all, I can't get enough of this fa-Boo-lous ghost cardigan sweater, so I also got it in black. I paired this sweater with some black check pants. Since I rarely wear all black, so I had to add some pops of color to the look with my orange loafers and purple bag!

Something Extra

I you want a skirt that's a little bit extra and that will turn heads, then this tiered gradient tulle skirt is for you! In fact, wearing it made me feel just like Carrie Bradshaw in the opening credits of Sex in the City! I wore the skirt out to dinner a couple weeks ago and it was a huge hit, gathering compliments wherever I went! One place that we visited before dinner was the LACMA's "Urban Lights" sculpture, which is essentially just a lot of street lamps grouped together to make a visually arresting outdoor sculpture or installation. You've no doubt seen it on other blogs or Instagram accounts because it's probably one of the most famous photo locations in Los Angeles.

One of the things that did not make for an easy photo shoot at this particular location was the large number of people there. Although the museum itself was not very busy at the time, there were throngs of people swarming around the lampposts trying to get that perfect "Insta" shot. In addition to the crowds, there was also quite a bit of wind on this particular day and it was blowing my hair and skirt around to no end! Given these undesirable conditions, however, we still got a handful of pretty good shots (in addition to a lot of duds!) so I can't complain too much. Wearing something that is a little bit extra sometimes also means going that extra mile just for the perfect shot!

A Lust for Lemons

I don't think I could count on one hand, or even two, how many posts I've done featuring lemon print items! Well, here's another one, this time in the form of a slightly abstract lemon print skirt. Since lemon prints are traditionally worn in the spring and summer months, I hesitated featuring this skirt now that it's officially fall but my love for lemons is strong, so I thought that, perhaps, lemons can transcend seasons. Why not?

Today was actually our first day here in L.A. that felt like it was fall; we had overcast skies and even some rain! Despite weather that looks like fall, the temperature is still somewhat warm and muggy (Yuck!). Because it was somewhat gloomy out, I thought that a little bit of yellow, bright green, and a pop of pink in the form of my bag would be perfect to brighten things up. I guess that just goes to show that when life (or the weather) gives you lemons, make lemonade or, in this case, wear a lemon skirt!

Candy Stripes

My summer break has officially started and so has the hot summer weather! Since I am done with teaching for the year, I am looking forward to getting out and exploring new places in Los Angeles and catching up on some reading, although, to be honest, what I am really looking forward to most is getting to sleep in! I think this candy stripe dress is the perfect way to celebrate my first days of summer vacation because this dress certainly screams "summer!" and seems fitting for a celebratory occasion. Also, it's going to be the perfect piece of clothing, now that the temperatures are rising!

I was instantly drawn to this dress because of the playful candy stripes. Since I have a lot of very loud and bright colors in my wardrobe, I love that this dress has more muted pastel colors. Pastel colors  are perfect for summer and perfect for this wall behind me. Another thing that you can look forward to in the upcoming months on my blog are new colorful walls, as I am certainly going to hunt for some while I'm on summer vacation!

Hello, Hello Kitty Cafe!

Several weeks ago, we visited the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe for tea in what's known as the cafe's "Bow Room".  I suppose it is only fitting that someone whose blog is named "Hello Katie Girl" should visit the Hello Kitty Bow Room! Described on Sanrio's website as a "hidden pink oasis", the Bow Room definitely lives up to its description and is everything I could dream of and more! Although the Bow Room and practically everything in it is doused in pink, I decided to wear my new red lace dress because pink and red is one of my new favorite color combos and something that I think would be approved by Hello Kitty herself!

Below, you will see my photo odyssey of tea at the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe Bow Room. As I previously mentioned, it was quite an experience, both visually and in terms of the food. For $55, you will be served an assortment of tea sandwiches and cute little desserts, in addition to your choice of tea. For tea, I opted for the Birthday Cake tea, which, I was told, is one of their most popular choices. One of my favorite things about the experience and the food was that the sandwiches were served on an adorable Hello Kitty tea tray! Clearly, a lot of thought was put into all of the little details, which made the experience very special!

Speaking of details, the tea service begins with strawberries in chocolate whipped cream (shown above) with Hello Kitty's visage gracing the top! It was very tasty, not to mention very sweet! Between all of the pink and all of the sweets, tea service at the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe was a lot to digest, both visually and in terms of taste! I give my husband a lot of credit for offering to go with me and enduring all of the pink but he was a very good sport about it...and I secretly think he had fun too!

Above is Hello Kitty's gigantic pink bow that graces the cafe and gives the Bow Room its name! Below is a Hello Kitty themed dessert that was almost too cute to eat!

I would highly recommend visiting the Bow Room of the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe for tea! Another option is to go in the evening for cocktails, which is something I would love to eventually try as well. Located in the Irvine Spectrum in Orange County, it's a fun experience if you're in the area and makes for some adorable photos! My only suggestion is to make sure you plan ahead for the experience and get reservations early, as they tend to fill up quickly, for obvious reasons! Another quicker and cheaper option is to just grab a little snack or even a donut from the cafe. It's not the full Bow Room experience, but it's a fun taste of Hello Kitty without going overboard!
