Color Crush

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago to celebrate the New Year with my family and watch the Rose Parade (on TV of course, not in person!). Originally, I purchased this Liberty button down shirt to go with a blazer that I thought was supposed to be the same color, but when I got the shirt it wasn't quite the right match color-wise. The shirt did end up being just the right match for these purple tie pants that I recently got from Ann Taylor. I love the way the orange-ish pink color of the shirt looks with the purple color of the pants!

I accessorized my look with some bright green pumps, my leopard clutch and these new Gucci sunglasses that I got as a Christmas gift this year. Much like the shirt, the sunglasses are supposed to be pink, but in reality I think they are more of an orange color that is reminiscent of terracotta. Regardless, the color is beautiful in my opinion and a perfect match for this outfit! I also look forward to wearing them much more in the new year!

Stace Face Blouse

I love a colorful and cute print, so, for those reasons, I've always been a fan of the Alice + Olivia "Stace Face" blouse. This print that comes out on several of Alice + Olivia blouses each year is named after the brand's designer, Stacey Bendet. Actually, the Willa puff sleeve blouse that I am wearing (also available here) in this post is, technically, the "Stace Squad" print featuring a colorful squad of little faces, all clad in fun sunglasses. Speaking of which, I decided to echo the print myself by wearing some fun, round and retro sunglasses!

To play off of all of the colors in the print, I also decided to opt for fun and bold accessories! As you can see, I'm getting a lot of use out of these Saffron yellow kitten heels from Ally. Remember that you can save $40 off your first pair of heels at Ally with code KATIEGIRL40 at checkout. I've been wearing these shoes quite a bit lately, and I can confirm that they are very comfortable for walking and standing for long periods of time. Last, to top off the look, I decided to go with some blue pants and an orange bag so that all colors in the print are covered!

Party Polka Dots

I love a good polka dot print, especially when the polka dots are in rainbow confetti! This pink multi-color polka dot top is definitely like a party in a top! It's also a great deal at under $10, and this top comes in a variety of colors, making it all the more appealing! I dare you to wear this top and not have a smile on your face! As you can see, it pairs with just about anything, due to all of the colors. I decided to go with mint pants, but it really could go with just about any color you'd want!

Going with the concept of more is more, I decided to use this colorful mural as the backdrop for this post.
This mural always makes me feel like I've stepped inside of some cartoon or comic book, which I thought would be a perfect concept to go with this colorful look! Color on color on more color is always a winning combination! While I want to start thinking about fall colors (there will be time for that soon enough), right now I'm still enjoying celebrating the colors of summer!

Floral and Orange

I'm always on the lookout for bougainvillea, which is the pinkish red flowering plant that we have just about everywhere here in California! A big, blooming bush of bougainvillea always makes for stunning photos, so you can understand why I seek it out as a backdrop! I have one "go to" spot for bougainvillea, which I thought would be perfect for this adorable floral top but, unfortunately, it was less than spectacular in its bloom when I went to take these photos. Nevertheless, I used it and then found another bougainvillea nearby that was abundant with flowers! I don't know why bougainvilleas in close proximity bloom at different times but my guess is that it might have something to do with the amount of sunlight they receive.

Another thing I'm always on the lookout for are colorful pants! I love a good pair of brightly colored pants to make an outfit pop! At this point, I think I have all the colors of the rainbow covered, but for years I have been without an orange pair of pants. Luckily, this year, vibrant colors are in vogue, so it was easy to find my perfect pair of orange pants! These pants from Zara are more of a reddish orange, which is the shade I prefer, so I was excited to get them to complete my rainbow collection of pants!

Multi-Color Stripe Shirtdress

It's been a while since I've been really excited about a piece from either J. Crew or J. Crew factory but, when I saw this colorful striped shirtdress, I knew it had my name written all over it! I love shirtdresses, stripes, but most of all, I love color! The colorful stripes featured on this dress are so perfect for summer! I also love the length and style of this dress, which makes it something that I can wear all summer long, but also something I can wear to work when I go back in a couple of months. (I am officially out on summer break!)

The colors in this dress also make it fun to accessorize! I went through my drawer of earrings and found these colorful raffia and tassel earrings that matched the colors in my dress perfectly! I also added some more pops of color (you can never have too many pops of color!) with my turquoise bag and green pom pom sandals. This is definitely a colorful look that has helped me to kick off my summer vacation in style!

Rainbow Maxi Skirt in Palm Springs

No trip to Palm Springs would be complete without a stop at the Saguaro Hotel, which is quite literally a rainbow! So, as you can imagine, this was the perfect place to wear this rainbow maxi skirt because it's a perfect match with the rainbow facade of this building! Although this rainbow skirt was purchased a couple years ago, New York & Company still has it in stock in some sizes and it's now on sale! Below, you will find some other maxi length rainbow skirt options that I also love!

We went to Palm Springs a few weeks ago at the very beginning of April and it was already, very, very hot! I always try to squeeze in a trip there in the spring because by summer the heat is just unbearable! Not being accustomed to the extreme heat at this early point in the season, I kind of felt like I was going to melt while taking these pictures! (My husband, who took the pictures, was also feeling the heat when he was in the sun!) Sometimes we might make a brief trip to Palm Springs in the summer but the temperatures often soar to well above 120 degrees, so unless there is something we really want to see or do, it's really just best to wait until fall. The one good thing about visiting during the summer is you pretty much have the city all to yourself that time of year.

Flower Power!

When I saw this fun floral jumpsuit, it was love at first sight! The price, which was under $25, also made it very appealing! While this isn't something I would wear on a regular basis, the affordable price and fun flower print makes it something that's fun to wear on the weekend, especially while exploring colorful murals, which is obviously something that I love to do! The first picture in this post was a little difficult to capture with heels on. While the heels on these Loeffler Randall mules are relatively low, it's still pretty difficult to balance yourself in them with one foot on top of parking curb while the other foot is in the air! However, I will do anything to get the perfect shot, so almost breaking my ankle was a small price to pay!

As I mentioned, this jumpsuit struck me as the perfect thing to wear for a fun day of mural hunting. Pasadena is, somewhat surprisingly, a great place to find a few fun murals, such as this gorgeous rainbow mural by Amy Tangerine, which is located at the Southern California Children's Museum. It wasn't that long ago that museums were closed here in California, which meant that this gorgeous mural, located in the rear of the museum and only accessible during operating hours, was off limits. I definitely missed it! As you can see, it makes for the perfect fun, colorful backdrop that makes any outfit shine, especially my flower power inspired jumpsuit!
