What Color Makes You Feel Powerful?

"What color makes you feel powerful?" is the question posed by this gorgeous new mural in Los Angeles. How would I answer this question? I would say all of them make me feel powerful because, as you know, I have a thing for color! To be truthful, though, if I had to pick just one color it would be purple because it's been my favorite color since before I can even remember! Much like this mural, I love it when designers put all the colors together into a rainbow print, which is why I adore this tie-waist shirt in rainbow stripe. If this shirt wasn't amazing enough on its own, the fact that it's now on sale for 50% off makes it all the more appealing!

We went to this wall a couple weeks ago and it was honestly one of those things that I just had to go see when I first saw it online! Sometimes murals in the area go up and then are quickly painted over and I knew I would be forever kicking myself if I didn't do a photoshoot here! I combined going to see this mural with a stroll through the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, located just across the street from it and where celebrities, such as Judy Garland, are buried. Plus, you'll probably run into a gorgeous peacock or two at the cemetery! After, we went to a nearby restaurant that we've been wanting to go to for quite sometime called Petit Trois. The restaurant turned out to be somewhat mediocre, especially given the prices, but at least the shots of the wall turned out to be spectacular!

Hooray for Hollywood and Sales!

It's a great time to get some incredible deals on sale and clearance items at places like J. Crew. Take, for example, this Hollywood sweatshirt, which is now only $15! Last fall, I bought a similar version of the sweatshirt that read "L. A." on it in gigantic letters. I figured that, because I live in Los Angeles, it was the perfect sweatshirt for me! While I don't spend a lot of time in Hollywood proper, I couldn't resist this version of the sweatshirt, especially because it was such a great deal! (Now that I have this sweatshirt, however, perhaps I should spend more time there?)

I love that this sweatshirt is a light pink color with orange writing. It's definitely a fun color combination that goes with so many things. Originally, I was going to wear this sweatshirt with a colorful skirt but I then decided that I liked the effect of wearing it with some bold, graphic black and white pants. These pants are J. Crew and I purchased them at least five years ago. It's actually a miracle that they still fit! Anyway, I guess you could say that I am mixing new J. Crew with what could be considered "old school" J. Crew for what I hope is a winning combination!

Going Round in Circles

I've been a fan of Marimekko, is a Finish fashion and textile company, for quite some time now. You can definitely tell that the company was founded in the 1960s because all of their pieces have sort of a signature "mod" look to them. While pieces from Marimekko tend to be a little pricey, they have done numerous collaborations with companies such as Banana Republic and Target to offer pieces that have the same signature Marimekko aesthetic but at more affordable prices. Most recently, Marimekko collaborated with Uniqlo and produced some super colorful, not to mention affordable, pieces. I loved the line so much that I probably bought at least half the collection! Thankfully, pieces like this sleeveless polka dot shirt are easy on the wallet and on the eyes, so you don't have to feel too guilty about indulging!

I wore this outfit last weekend to see a musical and have dinner in Hollywood but I didn't have a specific location in mind for these photos. Ironically, the area where the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located is anything but glamours so it's not exactly an easy place to find a pretty location. On our way to the restaurant, we did, however, find this green-painted alleyway that seemed like a suitable place to show off my mod Marimekko look. Later, I found this fun black and white mural and, as you might know, I can never pass up the opportunity to take a photo in front of a mural! I took just a few pictures there and it just happened to be as a big double decker tour bus of tourists was turning the corner with everyone gawking at me! Oh, well, welcome to Hollywood!

Last of all, not to state the obvious, but this outfit definitely has a round shape motif going on! From my oversized sunglasses, to the big dots on my top, to my pink circle bag, the circular theme is definitely carried out throughout the ensemble! I guess it also kind of mimicked the feeling of going round and round trying to find the perfect location for the photos!

Palms and Patterns

When it comes to blogging there are somethings that I spend a lot of time thinking about and planning and others that I just kind of leave up to chance. (I guess this is why I am not a professional blogger!) For example, for some posts I spend a lot of time thinking about the ideal location, but I don't always consider the perfect time to arrive at that perfect location. This photo shoot at this amazing wall created by Retna in West Hollywood is a great example of this.

I knew I wanted to go to this location because of the expansive wall with graphic symbols on it, but unfortunately when we arrived it was mid-day and really, really sunny! Oftentimes, people ask me about the location of some of the walls I visit and additionally they will inquire about what direction the walls are facing. Since I am horrible with directions I never know, but I probably should because that drastically affects when the lighting is best for pictures. I guess I am just too lazy to put time into those type of things! Plus, usually the best time to take pictures is early in the morning, and either traffic is too bad or I am just too lazy to get up to catch the best light then! (Again, more reasons for why I am not a professional blogger!) Regardless, I think these photos turned out okay, even though there are some weird shadows caused by the bright light.

This outfit was another thing that I didn't put a ton of time into. I had been wanting to wear this palm tree tank from J. Crew for a while and I figured I'd just pair it with something simple like a pair of jeans, a tote and pumps. As you can see by the photo below, the epic wall is kind of the star of these photos and I am okay with that!

All of the Colors!

My husband and I went to a French restaurant last weekend, so of course I had to break out this fun sweatshirt from J. Crew that lists a variety of different colors in French. I've had the sweatshirt for a while now, but, like with a lot of things, I just never got around to wearing it. Since the weather was a little cooler this weekend, it was the perfect time to wear it while indulging in some good French food! (French food and fashion of course, just happen to be among my favorite things!)

Although this sweatshirt came out for winter, I put a springtime touch on the outfit with the addition of a pink houndstooth skirt. This skirt is from quite a few years ago, but it's one of my favorites and it goes with so many things in my wardrobe; I'm always reinventing it! Even though it's an older piece, I did find a very similar houndstooth skirt from a different retailer that you can shop below.

Last but not least, let me just comment on this wall, which, like my sweatshirt, is so colorful. (This is actually the same wall as the one here.) I purposely used a different part of it for variety and also out of necessity because there was an older gentlemen on a stool having his photo professionally taken for what seemed like a very long time, making that part of the wall unusable. It's always fun to see the people who, like myself, are hardcore wall enthusiasts! I think it takes a special type of crazy to actively seek out walls for photos!

Somewhere Over the Purple Rainbow

Last January, I searched in vain for this gorgeous purple, blue and pink wall located in North Hollywood. (You can read about that saga in my post entitled A Silver Lining to my Wall Woes, and, as you can see, I like to make my wall hunting escapades into epic dramas!) Anyway, after I put on my detective's hat, I eventually realized that this wall was located on the backside of an apartment building, facing a bike path. After the mystery was solved, I decided to make a pilgrimage back there at some point in time. That pilgrimage happened last weekend since we were in the area anyway seeing some friends for lunch.

I decided to keep it casual yet colorful with some fun accents in this outfit. If you read my last post, you'll know that I am dabbling again into the world of earrings, but have found that some are just too heavy for my delicate ear lobes. This pink tassel pair from Sugarfix are the perfect solution to this. They are big enough and bright enough to make a statement, but I could easily wear them all day with no discomfort. As a result, I bought several more pairs in different colors!

Last off all, I am wearing my new embellished "Jackie" cardigan from J. Crew. It seemed like everyone bought this sweater and this is understandable, because it's a fantastic color and most importantly it has sequins. I actually stole the idea of pairing the yellow cardigan with pink tassel earrings from the J. Crew catalog because it seemed like a great idea and it matched the wall!
