Spring Sweater (Feather) Weather

The weather here in Los Angeles has been all over the place lately! Last week, it was warm and sunny, but this week will be colder and rainy. As a result, I've been going back and forth between my summer clothing and winter clothing. If I need to find winter clothing to wear this time of the year, I try to look for sweaters and coats that are in light or pastel colors so that I still look appropriate for spring. A perfect example of an item of clothing I might reach for with the crazy weather we've been having lately is this pink and white sweater, which is perfect for this transition of weather, because the colors are light and bright, but it still keeps me warm in cooler temperatures. The bonus is that it has light pink feathers on the sleeves, so what's not to love?!

I will be completely honest: my husband hates all my clothing with feathers and claims it will be a short-lived trend. While the latter is probably true, I still love anything with feathers, and I think it's a detail that takes something ordinary and turns it into something to extraordinary and unique! Because I'm on the subject of details making a difference in your wardrobe, let me also point out how much I love these Hush Puppies Hazel flats that ended up being the perfect match with my sweater. While feathers might be a trend, I think a comfy, classic flat in a fun color will never go out of style!

Cozy Yellow Coat

It's now in the mid 60s here in Los Angeles (tomorrow it might actually be in the 50s!), so these "frigid" temperatures mean that it's time to start breaking out my coats! Despite living in a very warm climate, I actually have a lot of coats; some might call it an addiction! I love the way coats allow you to add an extra layer of color to any outfit, just like this yellow Sam Edelman coat that I picked up this year during Black Friday. I have coats in just about every color, but, believe it or not, yellow, is the one color missing from my collection! So, when I saw this bright yellow coat on sale last week, I knew I had to get it and I have actually worn it several times in the last week to keep warm in the "cold" weather here in Los Angeles!

My rainbow sweater in this post represents another type of clothing item that I'm obsessed with (i.e., colorful striped sweaters!), and it was also purchased around Black Friday this year. The sweater is from Gap and every year around the holidays they come out with a "Happy Stripe" sweater that I always have to buy because they are so colorful and cute! At this point, I have quite the collection of Gap "Happy Stripe" sweaters, but I also get a ton of use out of these sweaters during the short season here when it's cold enough for sweaters. Sweater weather and coat season might be brief here in Southern California, but I try to make the most out of it!

Fair Isle Sparkle

I am so ready to finally get into fun, holiday outfits! There are so many great fabrics for the holiday season, such as plaid, sequins, and velvet. This outfit combines two of those fabrics: sequins and velvet. I also love that you can mix these traditionally dressy fabrics with more casual pieces for an unexpected, quirky twist on holiday style. That is exactly what I did with this J. Crew Fair Isle sweater, pairing it with a rose gold colored sequin skirt and these rose colored velvet Mary Janes. I think this outfit definitely starts off the holiday season with a bang! Below are some other sparkly skirts to get your holiday dressing off to a sparkly start!

The other thing that I love about this time of the year is that it finally looks like fall here in Los Angeles, which I realize puts us behind the rest of the country.  During the week of Thanksgiving, all of the leaves went from green to brilliant shades of orange and yellow in just a few days. I'm trying to get out and enjoy as much of the fall foliage as possible while it lasts!

Sweater Weather

As I mentioned in my last post, sweater weather has finally hit Los Angeles and I am celebrating with some of the sweaters that I recently purchased in anticipation of the fall and winter months! One of my favorite types of sweaters is a colorful striped sweater, and even though I have way too many of these in my closet, I end up wearing them all the time, so I suppose they are a good investment! This coral stripe sweater from LOFT is one of my more recent striped sweater purchases. I really think it has some great fall colors in it! Below are some other striped sweater options that I also love.

I paired this colorful sweater with a corduroy mini skirt and some tall brown boots. Wearing boots is another thing that I truly enjoy about this time of year! I think it's a shame that I live somewhere that only allows for fall/winter dressing for such a short period of time, because I really do love wearing sweaters, coats and boots!

Stripes and Suede

A few posts ago I apologized for taking a couple of weeks off from blogging and promised to be more consistent with posting in the future. Well, I topped that hiatus with a personal record of being gone for almost a month! Now that the holidays are here, I hope to get back to a more regular posting schedule. Before getting into holiday looks (I personally think it's still a little too soon for Christmas for this), I have some fall looks to share with you, because the weather has just recently started to feel like fall here. Today's post features a casual look that I wore last week that includes a colorful striped henley sweater that is now on sale with a pair of jeans and yellow suede pumps.

These suede pumps are from a brand that I am excited to collaborate with called Ally Shoes. I really love that Ally's shoes are designed with optimum comfort in mind. In fact, their shoes are designed by a podiatrist and, after wearing them all day, I can personally attest to how comfortable they are! I actually get a fair amount of blisters when breaking in shoes, but I had none of these issues with my new Ally kitten heels! As many of you know, I am a teacher, so I am always looking for comfy shoes that I can stand in for long periods of time and I have a feeling that these will be my go to shoes for work! Last but not least, you know I love color, and Ally shoes come in a variety of colors. I got my kitten heels in the color Saffron, but there are lots of other fun colors along with classic ones to fit everyone's tastes! If you want to try out Ally shoes, you can get $40 off your first pair of heels with code KATIEGIRL40 at checkout!

Rainbow Pom Pom Sweater

It's no secret that I love all things rainbow! I also love sweaters with pom poms! So, when you put the two together, it's a winner, in my book! As you can imagine, I was thrilled when I discovered this rainbow pom pom sweater from Farm Rio! It's pretty much everything I could ask for in a sweater! My husband asked me if I already had a similar sweater and my answer was both yes and no. Yes, I do have a short sleeved sweater from Kate Spade that also has colorful pom poms on it but it's very lightweight and I only wear it in the spring. This sweater, on the other hand, is perfect for winter!

Speaking of winter, I think this might be my last post featuring a winter outfit, as we are moving into the month of March this week and spring is right around the corner. Obviously, this time of year is perfect for snatching up sweaters, coats and other cold weather items on sale but I think my upcoming posts will focus more on looking ahead to spring! The weather here has been all over the place with some very cool days (one day this week it was in the 30s when I got up!) while some days are in the 90s, which, obviously, makes dressing difficult. While I enjoy the cooler weather, I am definitely looking forward to spring fashion!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! I have to be honest: I'm a little bit bummed that Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year, especially because it's the Monday after the Super Bowl. Because of this, my husband and I celebrated a little bit early and had a Valentine's date night out on Saturday rather than on the actual day because of this. I'm a big fan of just staying in and having a casual dinner anyway, so I guess it's really no big deal. Valentine's Day actually isn't my favorite holiday but it's most definitely one of my favorite holidays to dress for! For example, I probably have too many heart sweaters but, this year, I had to add this cute pink and red heart sweater to my collection! While heart sweaters are, obviously, perfect for celebrating Valentine's Day, you can really wear them all winter long, in my opinion!

I decided to wear my new heart sweater with a skirt that I purchased a couple years ago from J. Crew Factory. This was another purchase that I got during the very first month of the pandemic and, therefore, I just sort of forgot about it due to the fact that I couldn't wear it for over a year! Well, it was fun to discover this skirt again in my closet and find a way to style it for Valentine's Day.

I think my newest obsession might be berets, so I thought I'd top off the look with a red beret for a little Parisian flair! My husband and I actually went out to a French restaurant this weekend but I didn't actually wear a beret there, which would have been the one time it was really fitting! Unfortunately, it was over 90 degrees here this weekend, which is less than ideal weather for wool berets!
