Fair Isle Sparkle

 

I am so ready to finally get into fun, holiday outfits! There are so many great fabrics for the holiday season, such as plaid, sequins, and velvet. This outfit combines two of those fabrics: sequins and velvet. I also love that you can mix these traditionally dressy fabrics with more casual pieces for an unexpected, quirky twist on holiday style. That is exactly what I did with this J. Crew Fair Isle sweater, pairing it with a rose gold colored sequin skirt and these rose colored velvet Mary Janes. I think this outfit definitely starts off the holiday season with a bang! Below are some other sparkly skirts to get your holiday dressing off to a sparkly start!

 

 

The other thing that I love about this time of the year is that it finally looks like fall here in Los Angeles, which I realize puts us behind the rest of the country.  During the week of Thanksgiving, all of the leaves went from green to brilliant shades of orange and yellow in just a few days. I'm trying to get out and enjoy as much of the fall foliage as possible while it lasts!

Stace Face Blouse

 

I love a colorful and cute print, so, for those reasons, I've always been a fan of the Alice + Olivia "Stace Face" blouse. This print that comes out on several of Alice + Olivia blouses each year is named after the brand's designer, Stacey Bendet. Actually, the Willa puff sleeve blouse that I am wearing (also available here) in this post is, technically, the "Stace Squad" print featuring a colorful squad of little faces, all clad in fun sunglasses. Speaking of which, I decided to echo the print myself by wearing some fun, round and retro sunglasses!

 

To play off of all of the colors in the print, I also decided to opt for fun and bold accessories! As you can see, I'm getting a lot of use out of these Saffron yellow kitten heels from Ally. Rainbow Pom Pom Sweater

 

It's no secret that I love all things rainbow! I also love sweaters with pom poms! So, when you put the two together, it's a winner, in my book! As you can imagine, I was thrilled when I discovered this rainbow pom pom sweater from Farm Rio! It's pretty much everything I could ask for in a sweater! My husband asked me if I already had a similar sweater and my answer was both yes and no. Yes, I do have a short sleeved sweater from Kate Spade that also has colorful pom poms on it but it's very lightweight and I only wear it in the spring. This sweater, on the other hand, is perfect for winter!

Speaking of winter, I think this might be my last post featuring a winter outfit, as we are moving into the month of March this week and spring is right around the corner. Obviously, this time of year is perfect for snatching up sweaters, coats and other cold weather items on sale but I think my upcoming posts will focus more on looking ahead to spring! The weather here has been all over the place with some very cool days (one day this week it was in the 30s when I got up!) while some days are in the 90s, which, obviously, makes dressing difficult. While I enjoy the cooler weather, I am definitely looking forward to spring fashion!

Flower Power!

 

When I saw this fun floral jumpsuit, it was love at first sight! The price, which was under $25, also made it very appealing! While this isn't something I would wear on a regular basis, the affordable price and fun flower print makes it something that's fun to wear on the weekend, especially while exploring colorful murals, which is obviously something that I love to do! The first picture in this post was a little difficult to capture with heels on. While the heels on these Loeffler Randall mules are relatively low, it's still pretty difficult to balance yourself in them with one foot on top of parking curb while the other foot is in the air! However, I will do anything to get the perfect shot, so almost breaking my ankle was a small price to pay!

 

As I mentioned, this jumpsuit struck me as the perfect thing to wear for a fun day of mural hunting. Pasadena is, somewhat surprisingly, a great place to find a few fun murals, such as this gorgeous rainbow mural by Amy Tangerine, which is located at the Southern California Children's Museum. It wasn't that long ago that museums were closed here in California, which meant that this gorgeous mural, located in the rear of the museum and only accessible during operating hours, was off limits. I definitely missed it! As you can see, it makes for the perfect fun, colorful backdrop that makes any outfit shine, especially my flower power inspired jumpsuit!

Marimekko Floral Dress

 

I've loved Marimekko's designs since I was in college but their clothing can be a bit pricey. Luckily, Marimekko has done affordable collaborations with designers like Target and Uniqlo. A few years ago, Marimekko and Uniqlo did their first collaboration and I have been hooked ever since! I usually buy at least a couple of pieces from the collection that I always treasure because of the unique and innovative prints paired with comfy, easy to wear styles. As you can imagine, I was psyched when the email from Uniqlo popped up announcing that the latest Marimekko collaboration was now available in stores and online. I ended up getting two dresses, this floral print dress featured here and a polka dot dress that I will be featuring at a later date here on my blog.

 

As I previously mentioned, I love Marimekko because the prints are always unique and usually very colorful! Marimekko is a Finish design and textile house that made a name for itself in the 1960s because of its unique prints. I love that the dresses, such as this one, usually have a little bit of a groovy 60s feel! I also like that their clothing is always cut in such a practical and easy to wear way. I am not always very practical when it comes to my clothing choices, so it's nice to find a brand that can successfully combine style and comfort at an affordable price point!

Garden Party!

 

This outfit represents something old, something new, something pink, but nothing borrowed! I'll start with the something old, which is this Kate Spade skirt from what seems like many, many years ago. (I think it's actually a little under 10 years old.) While I still love Kate Spade and while I occasionally buy some of her clothing and accessories, I feel like the "golden age" of Kate Spade is, sadly, over. Well, at least I have this skirt and some other pieces as a memory of Kate at her peak! The something new is this green and white gingham top, which I actually purchased with the intent of pairing with this Kate Spade skirt. I wasn't sure if the pattern mixing would be too much but I found that with the addition of the white/cream colored belt, it was just the right amount of pattern mixing to add some visual interest to this outfit.  Obviously, the something pink is my pink bag, because I think pink and green work so well together and make for an amazing color combo! I'm always a fan of adding a pop of color to liven up any ensemble!

 

This outfit makes me feel like I should be going to a summer garden party, or maybe high tea, which is actually what is going on in the background, as this little alley with the wrought iron doors actually houses a tea house. I didn't actually know this was a tea house until recently, even though I have used this location several time for blog photos, but I think I'll have to try it so that I can enjoy some dainty tea sandwiches and scones with this outfit!

Pastel Rainbow Dress

 

Last week was Mother's Day and I wore this pastel rainbow dress for the occasion! For our Mother's Day celebration, I made an Ina Garten recipe of sea scallops au gratin, which is always a hit. In addition to being delicious, the other thing I love about this recipe is that you can make it in advance, pop it in the fridge for up to a day and then just take it out and throw it in the oven when you're ready to eat. One of the other positives about prepping the meal in advance is that you're free to get a little more dressed up due to being liberated from the fear of messing up your outfit while cooking! As you can see, I took advantage of this by debuting this new dress, which like the scallops, was also a hit with my family!

 

If the rainbow gingham print looks familiar to you, it's because I have several other items in the same print that I recently posted on my blog over the last couple of months. I would promise that you won't see this print again on my blog but I just realized that I haven't yet posted about the shoes that I also purchased in this print, so you might not have seen the last of it! The good news is, if you love the print as much as I do, you won't mind seeing it one more time!
