Rainbow Pom Pom Sweater

It's no secret that I love all things rainbow! I also love sweaters with pom poms! So, when you put the two together, it's a winner, in my book! As you can imagine, I was thrilled when I discovered this rainbow pom pom sweater from Farm Rio! It's pretty much everything I could ask for in a sweater! My husband asked me if I already had a similar sweater and my answer was both yes and no. Yes, I do have a short sleeved sweater from Kate Spade that also has colorful pom poms on it but it's very lightweight and I only wear it in the spring. This sweater, on the other hand, is perfect for winter!

Speaking of winter, I think this might be my last post featuring a winter outfit, as we are moving into the month of March this week and spring is right around the corner. Obviously, this time of year is perfect for snatching up sweaters, coats and other cold weather items on sale but I think my upcoming posts will focus more on looking ahead to spring! The weather here has been all over the place with some very cool days (one day this week it was in the 30s when I got up!) while some days are in the 90s, which, obviously, makes dressing difficult. While I enjoy the cooler weather, I am definitely looking forward to spring fashion!

Ladybug Love

If I had to make a prediction, I would say that ladybugs will be the new "it" critter of 2022! As you can see, I've definitely caught the bug! This lady bug sweater appeared last month on the Anthropologie website but then quickly sold out. Luckily, it came back in stock and I was able to snatch it up before it sold out again. I noticed that, this year, Anthropologie has several pieces of clothing featuring ladybugs, from vests to button down shirts. Additionally, LOFT also has a super cute lady bug sweater, thus confirming my suspicion that ladybugs are all the rage this year!

I decided to style my new ladybug sweater with a Parisian flair! As you can see, I'm getting a lot of use out of this red beret that I recently purchased from H&M. I guess because February is the month of wearing a lot of red, it makes sense that I'm wearing it so often. I also added a pair of polka dot pumps to play on the dots found on the ladybugs!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! I have to be honest: I'm a little bit bummed that Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year, especially because it's the Monday after the Super Bowl. Because of this, my husband and I celebrated a little bit early and had a Valentine's date night out on Saturday rather than on the actual day because of this. I'm a big fan of just staying in and having a casual dinner anyway, so I guess it's really no big deal. Valentine's Day actually isn't my favorite holiday but it's most definitely one of my favorite holidays to dress for! For example, I probably have too many heart sweaters but, this year, I had to add this cute pink and red heart sweater to my collection! While heart sweaters are, obviously, perfect for celebrating Valentine's Day, you can really wear them all winter long, in my opinion!

I decided to wear my new heart sweater with a skirt that I purchased a couple years ago from J. Crew Factory. This was another purchase that I got during the very first month of the pandemic and, therefore, I just sort of forgot about it due to the fact that I couldn't wear it for over a year! Well, it was fun to discover this skirt again in my closet and find a way to style it for Valentine's Day.

I think my newest obsession might be berets, so I thought I'd top off the look with a red beret for a little Parisian flair! My husband and I actually went out to a French restaurant this weekend but I didn't actually wear a beret there, which would have been the one time it was really fitting! Unfortunately, it was over 90 degrees here this weekend, which is less than ideal weather for wool berets!

A Gothic Kind of Love

In honor of Valentine's Day this month, I've been on the lookout for murals and spots around Los Angeles that are love themed. So, when I discovered this mural by Dean Stockton, also known as D*Face, I thought it would be great place to checkout in celebration of Valentine's Day because the characters are kissing. While this mural features two lovers engrossed in a passionate kiss, one can't help but notice that they are a bit gothic looking and maybe even dead! It's a cool and dark spin on pop art, which makes it all the more intriguing. I decided to wear my purple jumpsuit on this particular day. While the jumpsuit is from last year, there are a few almost exact ones that I've linked to below in case you're dying to get your hands on a purple jumpsuit too!

In addition to visiting this cool mural, we also went to a retro diner in the area called The Tallyrand. The Tallyrand has been around since 1959 and is a popular place to dine in the Burbank area. I love finding places that take you back to a different time in Los Angeles' past, so this restaurant was right up my alley. We had a great lunch there and overheard some locals talking about a possible suspect in the very dark Black Dahlia murder case. Overhearing the conversation about this infamous murder definitively complemented the dark and gothic vibe of the mural!

Wearing my Heart on my Tee

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so I'm trying to pull all of my red, pink, and heart themed items of clothing out of the closet and wear them in the upcoming week! This month, I found this cute heart tee at Gap and thought it would be perfect for Valentine's Day! I also love the top because the anthropomorphic heart is the artwork of pop artist Keith Haring. I actually bought a couple tees from this Gap and Keith Haring collaboration because I love anything that combines art and fashion! You will see the other tee I purchased from the collaboration and how I styled it next week on my blog but I thought I would start with the heart tee because of Valentine's Day!

I thought that this heart tee would be a perfect match for these plaid pink and red pants that I purchased last year at Anthropologie. Red and pink is one of my favorite color combinations, especially this time of the year. When I first wore these pants at the end of the summer, I made a mental note that I should bring them out again for Valentine's Day because the color combo makes them perfect for the holiday! While Valentine's Day is actually not my favorite holiday, as you can see, it is one of my favorite holidays to dress for due to the color combinations and my affinity for hearts!

Forget it, Katie. It's Chinatown

I purchased this rainbow tulle skirt from J. Crew in the spring of 2020 right in the midst of the lock down. It was definitely not a practical purchase for the time, considering the fact that nobody could go anywhere then. Even if one wasn't in the midst of a lock down, a rainbow tulle skirt is not exactly an item of clothing that can be worn all the time. However, nearly two years later, I finally found an occasion to wear it. Perhaps I should say that I finally created an occasion to wear it! Last weekend, we went to Chinatown in Los Angeles and I thought this skirt was a perfect match for this fun building that is in the heart of the central plaza of Chinatown. I was definitely very dressed up for a stroll around Chinatown and for the burgers we got for lunch but I dressed the look down (if that's possible) with a love tee and a pair of sneakers, although the sneakers do have glitter on them!

There were a lot of people in Chinatown because this was the weekend before Lunar New Year. Chinatown has definitely gone through some changes since I first visited the area when I was in college. Now you can find a variety of restaurants, stores and art galleries in the area. As I mentioned, we chose to eat at a new burger place that is in the neighborhood, which was delicious! When we came back from our adventure, we decided to watch the film Chinatown, which really isn't about Chinatown and doesn't take place in Chinatown until the final scene but it was fun to have a day devoted to Chinatown, rainbow tulle and yummy burgers! They say nothing good happens in Chinatown but clearly that's not the case!
