The Most Sincere Pumpkin Patch

When October rolled around this year, I was overwhelmed by how many pictures I found in my Instagram feed of bloggers surrounded by pumpkins in a pumpkin patch! I guess there are just certain types of photos you are expected to take if you're a fashion blogger on Instagram, one of which is the obligatory "it's fall and I am posing in a pumpkin patch" pic! Well, here I am, doing the same thing! While I might be a little late to the party in posting this on the second to last day of October, I figured that this would be my Halloween post for the season. The only thing I'm missing is a Halloween costume but this floral blouse will have to do! While it's not a Halloween costume, at least the print and color scheme of the blouse make it perfect for fall!

The truth is that I really love pumpkin patches, so I can totally get why it's such a popular photo location. I've been going to this pumpkin patch for years now, way before I was a blogger. This is because they have the best pumpkins, some really cute farm animals, and, best of all, a historic Victorian house on the premises. In the words of Linus from "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown", it's "the most sincere pumpkin patch I know", although I don't think I'll be seeing the Great Pumpkin there anytime soon...although you never know!

Best Day Ever!

If you asked me what I would do for my best day ever, it would probably involve exploring Los Angeles (sans traffic) and eating some really great food, which is exactly what we did the day I wore this Best Day ever tee from Happily. As you know, I'm a big fan of the statement tee and this one, which was gifted to me by Happily, is now one of my favorites! Why? Well, it's a super soft and high quality tee and it's also so cute! Just looking at it brings a smile to my face! I think that no matter what you're doing, if you're wearing this tee you're going to have the best day ever!

So if you're wondering what I did the day I wore this outfit, we started the morning by going to Tiffany's Laundry (not to do laundry but to take these pictures!), which is where this amazing wall is located! This wall has been on my list of places to check out for a blog shoot for a long time and it did not disappoint. Next, we went to a pasta place in Culver City where they make fresh pasta in the most amazing sauces. Pasta is probably one of my favorite foods and I'm always thrilled when I find a place that takes the time to make it fresh. Finally, we went to the Hammer Museum, which is an art museum near the UCLA campus. All in all, it was a fun day made extra fun by my new statement tee!

Queen of Diamonds

Last year, I missed out on buying something from the Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific collaboration at Nordstrom but this year I made an effort to pick out a couple of coveted items ahead of time and I was able to purchase them the day the collaboration launched! One of those pieces was this diamond print button down blouse. I love the diamond motif that evokes a deck of playing cards and the fun color scheme! For those of you who might have missed out on the collection or didn't hear about its launch, the good news is that most pieces seem to be in stock in a variety of sizes! The collection features a really diverse selection of pieces, so there's really something for everyone!

This blouse was definitely made for me and goes with so many different things in my wardrobe but I thought that pairing it with a bright pair of red pants was definitely the way to go! The oversized collar and wide, billowy sleeve give the blouse a very 70s vibe, without being too overtly retro! This blouse will definitely be a fun staple in my wardrobe for years to come! Rumor has it that Blair Edie (the fashionista behind Atlantic-Pacific) will be launching a winter/holiday collection with Nordstrom this year as well, so I look forward to picking up a few more treasures when that collection hits stores too, as I am sure it will be out of this world!

Simply Sequins, Totally 80s

Sequins are not the most practical thing to wear but somehow I just can't resist them! I own several sequin pencil skirts, which, for the normal person, would probably be more than enough but when I saw this Eva Franco pencil sequin pencil skirt at Anthropologie, I just couldn't say no! One of the things that I really love about the skirt is the 80s vibe that's created through the neon color palette that's featured in the skirt. Even though it makes me feel old because I grew up in the 80s, I love the fact that the decade is making a comeback!

Since this sequin skirt is so vibrant and bold, I decided to style it with just a simple black long sleeved tee to make the skirt the star of the ensemble. That being said, I also added some pops of color with my neon yellow bag and raspberry patent pumps because you can never have too much color! This was definitely a show stopping outfit as I can't even remember how many people stopped me to compliment me about my skirt or ask where I got it. Clearly, I'm not the only one who has a serious sequin obsession!

Sweater Weather?

Fall is hands down my favorite season, or at least it was when I lived on the East Coast! Here in Los Angeles, it seems like we get a handful of days that might qualify as being fall-like but even that's a stretch. I'm always envious of seeing bloggers in sweaters standing near fall foliage because it reminds me about what I miss most about the season! This Monday, the temperatures here dipped to the 70s, hardly sweater weather, but it was cool in the morning so I decided just to pretend like it was fall and don a cashmere heart sweater. While 70 degrees probably doesn't count as cool weather in most places, when most days are in the 90s, you take what you can get. It's all relative!

I actually purchased this sweater last spring (although it's back for fall) when it went on sale and I've been dying to wear it! At first, I thought it would look good with a blue and white polka dot skirt but at the last minute I chose this more colorful rainbow striped option from the Australian designer Gorman. (On our next "cool" day, I'll have to try out the polka dots!) The skirt makes for some fun and colorful pattern mixing. It was the perfect look to brighten up a cold dreary day, even if it was neither cold nor dreary! I guess I can at least hope for some of these days to come my way in the near future!

Rainbow Blazer

As you already know, I am one of those people who will buy just about anything that comes in rainbow print! So when I stumbled upon this shawl blazer in rainbow stripe (also available here), it was love at first sight! The fact that the blazer was also over 50% off just made it all the more appealing! While this blazer was originally part of Alice + Olivia's summer collection, the light-weight fabric makes it perfect for fall or spring in California.

I copied the styling of this jacket almost exactly from the website, which consisted of just a simple white tee shirt tucked into light wash skinny jeans. I figured that the experts styling the jacket must know best! Plus, I think that with a jacket that has as much going on as this one does, the simpler the better when it comes to the rest of the outfit. To be honest, as the afternoon wore on and the temperatures here started to rise, I did take off the jacket and so my look just became a plain white tee and jeans, although I think that can be chic in its own right.

Something Extra

I you want a skirt that's a little bit extra and that will turn heads, then this tiered gradient tulle skirt is for you! In fact, wearing it made me feel just like Carrie Bradshaw in the opening credits of Sex in the City! I wore the skirt out to dinner a couple weeks ago and it was a huge hit, gathering compliments wherever I went! One place that we visited before dinner was the LACMA's "Urban Lights" sculpture, which is essentially just a lot of street lamps grouped together to make a visually arresting outdoor sculpture or installation. You've no doubt seen it on other blogs or Instagram accounts because it's probably one of the most famous photo locations in Los Angeles.

One of the things that did not make for an easy photo shoot at this particular location was the large number of people there. Although the museum itself was not very busy at the time, there were throngs of people swarming around the lampposts trying to get that perfect "Insta" shot. In addition to the crowds, there was also quite a bit of wind on this particular day and it was blowing my hair and skirt around to no end! Given these undesirable conditions, however, we still got a handful of pretty good shots (in addition to a lot of duds!) so I can't complain too much. Wearing something that is a little bit extra sometimes also means going that extra mile just for the perfect shot!
