Crazy, Colorful Pants!

 

During the summer months, I wear a lot of dresses and skirts, but every once in a while I like to switch it up and wear pants, especially if they are crazy, colorful pants! I wore these wide leg colorful pants from Farm Rio x Anthropologie last weekend and, although it was very hot out, the flowy style of the pants actually kept me relatively cool! Due to the myriad of colors featured in the print of the pants, I think these could definitely transition into the fall and winter seasons. I would probably swap out the ruffle tee for a chunky knit sweater once the weather gets cooler, which, around here, probably won't be for a while!

 

You can see how I accessorized my outfit, and I'm back in my orange hat! I featured this hat last week on the blog and it has easily become one of my favorite accessories this summer! Like the pants, I think this hat would be a great transitional piece for the fall season! The orange color is perfect for both summer and fall and it's made from a suede-like material that would also fit in perfectly with my fall and winter wardrobe.

Another G.O.A.T.

A few weeks ago, I posted about a dress that was, in my opinion, the G.O.A.T, not just because it's a great dress but also because the print featured cute little goats! Well, as a follow up to that post, today I am featuring this silk blouse in the same adorable goat print! One of the things I love about this print is that it's colorful and a little quirky without being cartoonish, which sometimes happens with prints that depict animals. As you can see, I liked the print enough to buy it in two items of clothing and, in case you were wondering, I am very tempted to also purchase the pants in the same print! Yes, that's how great the print is!

I decided to pair my goat print silk blouse with a felt mini skirt in a pinkish purple color. To build on the purple hues found within the print, I also topped off my look with a purple leather jacket that I bought last year from Kate Spade. While this is a fun "going out" type of look (even though there are not many places to go these days!), I could definitely see pairing this blouse with a longer skirt or a smart pair of colorful pants for a more professional, work appropriate look. The versatility of the blouse is clearly another reason for why this blouse, like the dress, is G.O.A.T.!

Floral Skirt for Fall

 

 

Right now I'm all about trying to transition into the autumnal season but trying to find my own way to do so. While I don't want to give up on bright colors (they're kind of my thing, in case you didn't know!). I do think there is a way to choose a color palette that hints at fall without exactly screaming that it's fall. This paper bag waist skirt is a great example of the type of wardrobe piece that bridges the gap between being colorful and still being seasonally appropriate. For example, the colors are bright and bold in the floral print but the orange and yellow hues suggest autumn leaves without being too literal.

 

 

It was well into the 90s the day that I wore this outfit, so, while I would have loved to have paired the skirt with a sweater, I opted for a light-weight T-shirt. In the future, I look forward to wearing this skirt with a bright cashmere sweater and, if it gets really cool here (that would mean that it's in the 60s), maybe even styling a coat over the skirt as well. Come spring and summer, I can rock this skirt again with a sleeveless tank or another colorful T-shirt, thus making this floral skirt a piece that I can enjoy wearing all year round!

Safari Style

I love animals and I love color, so this safari print dress had my name written all over it! Well, actually, it has giraffes, elephants, and lions (oh my!) all over it but you get the point! The print of this dress is from the J. Crew Ratti collection, which always has the most stunning prints. This summer, J. Crew featured the safari print on everything from a button-down shirt to pajama style pants, so if you like the print but don't want it in a dress you have a lot of other options from which to choose. (If you are like me, though, you will want all three!) Speaking of dresses, this dress is J. Crew's very popular tiered "popover dress", which has become a staple silhouette over the last few years if you are an avid J. Crew shopper. It seems like every season J. Crew does at least a few versions of the dress, all of which always sell out very quickly. This is my third "popover dress", so, as you can see, I am definitely a fan!

In a previous post from last week, I wrote about my dismay that I would not be visiting Palm Springs for a while due to the extreme heat that the area is known for this time of year. One of the things I really want to do in Palm Springs is go to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Although I've been there before, I would like to go back again. Also, you can now feed a giraffe, which seems like something I should add to my bucket list! I can't think of a better dress for such an activity because the print features a giraffe on it, unless the giraffe drools on my dress while getting her treat! Luckily, I don't think giraffes even drool so I'm probably safe!  My dog William, on the other hand, is another story when it comes to drool!

Summer Floral

I love a good floral print but not all floral prints are created equal. Some floral prints can be dull or look dated, so you always have to be careful in selecting the right one to fit your style. Obviously I love floral prints that are vibrant and colorful, like the one that's featured on this dress from J. Crew! Because I already have a lot of floral dresses, I went back and forth about whether or not to get this particular dress but ultimately I decided that the print was different enough from what I already owned. Besides, the price was right so it was a no-brainer!

Another thing that factored into my decision to get this particular dress was that while this dress looks perfect for the summer months and when on vacation, it will also transition nicely into my work wardrobe (when I eventually physically go back to work!) due to the longer length of the dress. I also think this dress would look fantastic with a sweater or blazer over it, thus making it perfect for transitioning to other seasons as well, even though current temperatures here are nearly 100 and going to work in cooler weather is far from my mind right now!

The Perfect Summer Dress

While I have claimed this about other dresses in the past, I really do think I have finally found the perfect summer dress, which would be this colorful rainbow stripe maxi dress! This dress has everything I look for when it comes to a summer dress: color, comfort and the ability to keep me cool! Last year, J. Crew came out with a similar style of maxi dress, which I also purchased but I think I like this one even better! (Come to think of it, I think the title of that post was also "The Perfect Summer Dress" or something along those lines!) Also, I think I finally got the fit right on this one thanks to reading the reviews and consulting a friend on Instagram with the same dress. These dresses seem to run a little big so I sized down to a size XS in this and the fit was perfect!

While this dress might be perfection, one thing that was less than perfect was this location, although you probably can't tell from the photos. When my first choice for a location failed due to less than ideal lighting, I opted for this one is in front of a building, probably from the 1920s, that I sometimes use for photos. On this occasion, someone had dumped several mattresses that looked very old and very dirty against the side of the building. Luckily, my husband was very careful not to get them in my photos! When we were driving away, a man was eyeing them and looked like he was thinking about taking them with him in his truck. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure! I think I'll just stick to pretty dresses!

Dot, Dot, Dot

I'm crazy for dots! So, when I saw this embroidered dot top (also available here), I knew it was perfect for me! Plus, the fabric is tulle, which is another win in my book! I decided to go with neutrals with this particular outfit, which, I know, is a rarity for me! While you might ask if I'm feeling okay because I'm not dressed in head to toe color, let me assure you that the accessories are popping with color, namely the color red! Because I wore this outfit pre-Valetine's day, I decided to go with some red accessories in the form of my new red heart sunglasses and red tote bag.

I also thought that the more neutral tones of this outfit would work with this more subdued wall. I discovered this mural in Pasadena last year and although it's not popping with color either, it's become one of my favorite backdrops for outfits; I just love all of the doodles and scribbles! In fact, this mural reminds me of all of my notebooks in high school and college! All in all, it was nice to take a little departure from my more colorful attire and backdrops. I guess you could say that it really lets the dots be the stars of the show!
