Dancing into the Next Decade

Today was the last day of school before Christmas break and as I was saying goodbye to my students, many of them said "see you next decade" in addition to the usual "see you next year." I actually had not stopped to think about the fact that in a little under two weeks we will not only be ushering in a new year but also a new decade! (This is probably because I have been so busy with school and preparing for Christmas!) Now that I have some time to finally relax, I'm really looking forward to not only Christmas but ringing also in the new year and the new decade. I also love thinking about what I'm going to wear for these occasions. This full rainbow dot skirt from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific collection at Nordstrom would definitely be the perfect skirt to dance into the New Year and usher in the new decade!

Like many of the pieces from the Holiday Collection by Halogen x Atlantic Pacific, this skirt is a kaleidoscope of color, which is why I fell in love with it as soon as the collection was released! I decided to pair it with some of my favorite pink and metallic accessories, such as my pink bow flats, satin turban knot headband and gold Kate Spade bag for a touch of shine. One thing you might know about me if you've been following my blog for a while is that I love dressing for NYE but I actually rarely go out for the occasion. While I love dressing up, there's no where I would rather be than curled up on the couch eating fondue and drinking champagne in sweatpants!

Tinsel Time!

When I was a child, my family would always get the most beautiful Christmas tree and, on a few occasions, the finishing touch to decorating the tree was draping silver tinsel on the branches. As a child, I thought this looked pretty, especially with the multi-colored lights reflecting off the tinsel. Gradually, I came to find this tradition to be a little gaudy and, I suppose, trends also change. Now, as an adult, I guess you could say that I'm back to loving tinsel, albeit this time it's in the form of a colorful peplum top! This peplum top, which is another piece that I scored from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Collection, is the perfect top for the holidays, be it for a Christmas party or for New Year's Eve!

I wore this tinsel top out for a casual lunch date with my husband (he said I was overdressed for the occasion, but I'm practically always overdressed!), so I decided to go with a more casual take on the look with a pair of skinny jeans and these pink flats. If I were to attend a party or something more formal, I think some black velvet pants might also look amazing with the top. For those of you who want an even dressier look, this tinsel fabric also comes in a dress, which is equally stunning and saves you from going through the effort of figuring out what to wear as a bottom! As you can see, I'm head over heels in love with this fabric, perhaps so much so that I just might reconsider putting tinsel on the tree this year, although maybe it's better on a top than a tree!

Sequins, Tulle, and Satin

As the holidays approach, there's nothing I love better than all of the gorgeous, sumptuous fabrics that are associated with this time of year. Cashmere, silk, satin, tulle, and sequins...bring it on! Also, because it's the holidays, it's okay to go all out and wear two, maybe even three of these fabrics together at once for a look that's a little over the top...but not really! Today I'm wearing a combination of sequins, tulle, and satin, which includes this new sequin sweater from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Collection.

This sequin sweater just arrived in the mail last week along with several other pieces from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Collection at Nordstrom. One of the things that I really like about this Collection, in addition, of course, to the fun fabrics, are all of the colors! This time of year, I often get caught up in wearing a lot of plaid and darker colors, which I love, but I also like to stay true to my colorful aesthetic. So stay tuned in the coming month for a few more surprises from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Collection, as I can't wait to show them off!

Polka Dot Ballerina

Whenever I wear this teal tulle skirt, I think that, perhaps, I missed my calling as a ballerina! To be honest, I don't think I could ever be disciplined enough to make it as a ballerina but I sure would enjoy wearing tulle all the time! (It's not exactly a fabric you can wear everyday but I would if I could!) I decided to pair this skirt with my new polka dot shirt that I just acquired from the Atlantic Pacific x Halogen Collection at Nordstrom. Somehow, when the collection was launched last month, I missed this top but I'm glad that I was able to snag it after giving the collection a second look.

Speaking of snagging pieces from the Atlantic Pacific x Halogen Collection, in case you didn't know, the holiday line is going to debut on the Nordstrom website this coming Monday. (I've marked my calendar!) This week, I saw a handful of pieces from the Collection on Blair Eadie's blog and I have to say that it's amazing! There's so much sparkle, shine and color! While I kind of want all of the pieces from the Collection, I have narrowed it down to a few favorites. My fingers are crossed that I will be able to get them next week before they sell out!

Queen of Diamonds

Last year, I missed out on buying something from the Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific collaboration at Nordstrom but this year I made an effort to pick out a couple of coveted items ahead of time and I was able to purchase them the day the collaboration launched! One of those pieces was this diamond print button down blouse. I love the diamond motif that evokes a deck of playing cards and the fun color scheme! For those of you who might have missed out on the collection or didn't hear about its launch, the good news is that most pieces seem to be in stock in a variety of sizes! The collection features a really diverse selection of pieces, so there's really something for everyone!

This blouse was definitely made for me and goes with so many different things in my wardrobe but I thought that pairing it with a bright pair of red pants was definitely the way to go! The oversized collar and wide, billowy sleeve give the blouse a very 70s vibe, without being too overtly retro! This blouse will definitely be a fun staple in my wardrobe for years to come! Rumor has it that Blair Edie (the fashionista behind Atlantic-Pacific) will be launching a winter/holiday collection with Nordstrom this year as well, so I look forward to picking up a few more treasures when that collection hits stores too, as I am sure it will be out of this world!
