A Skirt for All Seasons

Summer is rapidly approaching and with that comes certain shifts in one's wardrobe. It's nice, though, to find pieces such as this art deco print skirt that transcend seasons and can really be worn all year round. In fact, this versatility is one of the first things that drew me to the skirt, although the real selling point was, obviously, the amazing print! It's colorful, modern and classic, which is a combination that's right up my alley!

Since the weather here has been a touch on the cooler side, I'm wearing it with a light pink sweater and some leopard accents in the form of my clutch and shoes. As we move into some warmer months, I will look forward to trying out the skirt with a sleeveless top or a statement tee. Flashing forward to fall and winter, I can also see this same skirt paired with a heavy sweater and tights. I suppose, however, that I should probably just take it one season at a time! For now, I think I'm pretty content to just focus on the upcoming lazy months of summer!

Two Way Tuesday: Statement Tees

If there's one trend that I have really latched on to, it's the statement tee trend! In fact, I don't know what I would do without them! Apparently, I'm not alone in my love and adoration for statement tees because I posted a pic of this outfit on Instagram today and expressed sentiments similar to the ones mentioned above and many people were in agreement with me regarding their obsession with the statement tee! So for this installment of "Two Way Tuesday" I am showing two different statement tees and how I've styled them, starting with this "Sul mare a Capri" tee.

I think this particular statement tee goes to illustrate a couple of things. First, many of the statement tees in my collection contain sayings in foreign languages. I try my best to translate what these tees say but, to be honest, it's usually the color scheme or graphic rather than the words that makes the tee so appealing. Second, both this look and the next one illustrate that nothing pairs better with a statement tee than a cute graphic skirt! Statement tees are a good way to dress down a skirt and make it more casual and fun!

My next statement tee has no cute images or graphics but it does list some of my favorite places along the coast of California! I love that many statement tees evoke a laid back vacation vibe, which is definitely where my mindset is at with only a couple weeks left in the school year! This particular tee lists not only places that I am very familiar with but also places that I just might have to visit again during summer vacation!

Once again, I've paired this statement tee with a fun printed skirt. Here I'm pairing my coastal tee with a floral skirt, which is currently on sale at J. Crew. I love all of the colorful flowers in the skirt's print, which creates endless styling possibilities just like how this tee inspires one with the endless possibilities of where one might vacation this summer!

Tigers, Gingham and Spring Showers

The weather here has been unseasonably cool and rainy and I definitely have some mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I'm getting a little bit sick of all of the rain and grey skies. Also, with it being a couple weeks until school lets out and summer vacation begins, I am ready for it to start feeling like summer! On the other hand, I'm not sure I'm quite ready for sweating it out in 90 degree heat (I'll probably complain about that too!), so maybe I should savor these cool days while they last? Another upside to the dreary, cool weather is that a couple weeks ago I placed an order for some sale steals at J. Crew like cashmere sweaters and this gingham trench coat, so this cool weather gives me an opportunity to wear these pieces and enjoy them before storing them away for next year. I guess there is a silver lining to every cloud, even storm clouds!

I decided to pair my new gingham trench coat with this silk tiger print blouse, which was also part of my sale haul from a couple of weeks ago! I love how everything this spring at J. Crew ended up being a perfect match in terms of color, which really has made for some fun color and pattern combinations in my wardrobe as of late! I also own pants in this fun tiger print print, so I'm looking forward to doing what J. Crew calls "the hook-up" by pairing a top and bottom of the same print together for a very matchy-matchy look! With warmer days in sight, that look may just have to wait until next year, though!

Sequin Cardigan

You know that you really love something when you buy multiple versions of it! That's the case with this sequin cardigan because I now own it in three colors! Yes, I own this same cardigan in yellow, maroon, and also this lovely peach color! It may sound excessive (and admittedly it is) but I do wear a lot of cardigans. They are the perfect thing to just throw on over a dress or to pair with a skirt when the weather is just a touch chilly. While I have cardigans in a rainbow of colors, I love the fact that this one has some sequins for that extra "wow" factor!

While this cardigan could go with just about anything, I decided to pair it with a relatively neutral simple tee and some light pink jeans. I suppose the real "wow" factor of this look can be attributed to these rainbow flats! I purchased these shoes this winter and, although they were a bit pricey, I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of them! Plus, every time I look at them they just make me smile because I feel like they were designed solely for me, given their colorful rainbow print! They are also the perfect complement to the mural behind me!

Two Way Tuesdays: Pink Gingham Skirt

I thought I would start a new limited series of posts about how to wear a particular item of clothing in two different ways. This occurred to me because I will often wear an article of clothing once for my blog and photograph it once but after that I never feature it again to show how I restyle it for subsequent wearings and different occasions. Today's post is meant to remedy this and it features this beautiful gingham pencil skirt from J. Crew styled in two different ways.  In other words, this is my first Two Way Tuesdays post! Today's post is dedicated to this pretty pink/purple gingham print skirt, which is one of my favorite patterns for spring. In fact, I just recently purchased the trench coat version of the print as well!

Because the weather has been unseasonably cool lately, I decided to pair the skirt with my new cashmere star sweater and a leopard clutch for this first look. The pink in the stars is the perfect match with the skirt and it also offers some playful pattern mixing! I adore this star sweater, which is another recent purchase and I was happy to have the opportunity, thanks to our cooler weather, to wear it before storing it away for next winter. The addition of the springtime gingham definitely makes the sweater seem more appropriate for spring!

Next, you will see my second styling of this gingham skirt with a floral print blouse. As you may have noticed, I am very much into pattern mixing with this skirt! This was actually the outfit that I wore a few weeks ago for Easter, which now seems like a very distant memory! I thought the pastel colors and the floral print would make for the perfect spring/Easter look, although it was a little restrictive when it came to participating in our annual family Easter egg hunt! (I still was able to win!)

These vibrant purple flowers were vividlly in bloom for these photos a few weeks ago but, sadly, have lost much of their colors in the last couple weeks. It was really spectacular to see the "super bloom" that took place this year in the early spring months! They did, however, prove to be the perfect complement to my floral top!

Tropical Linen Skirt

Anthropologie is really bringing their "A game" for summer! One of the things I think Anthropologie does exceptionally well is whimsical, printed skirts. In fact, this was one of the first things that attracted me to Anthropologie long ago when I was in college. I guess some things never change because every week I find myself scrolling through their new arrivals and being constantly tempted by so many printed skirts and other items! This tropical palm print linen skirt was one of the many new arrivals that caught my eye last month. I purchased it almost immediately, unwilling to take the risk of it possibly selling out.

I love that this skirt features so many wonderful colors, especially green and hints of purple, as these are my two favorite colors! I also love that the tropical print features not only gorgeous palms and flowers but also these cheerful orange birds! You might miss them at first, but they are a delightful addition to this already fun print. I decided to pair the skirt with my orange tote to help bring out the orange in the birds and I look forward to finding new ways to wear this skirt all summer long!
