Just a Little More Plaid!

I did a poll on my Instagram Stories the day after Christmas that asked how many people were sick of plaid. I asked that question because I know some people are already ripping down their Christmas decorations after having them up for a month or more, so I thought people might also be sick of plaid. As it turns out, the vast majority of people love plaid and are excited to wear it at least another week until the New Year. As a result, I feel that it's safe to do another plaid post featuring one of my favorite outfits of the season. The outfit is something old from J. Crew, which is this paper bag plaid skirt and something new, which is this very versatile striped tissue turtleneck top.  While the skirt is no longer available, below are some other green plaid options that I love!

I feel that, among the skirt, which is from years ago, the bow belt, and the pattern mixing of stripes and plaid, this could easily be a "blogger outfit" from about a decade ago! The thing is, plaid never goes out of style, and I think pattern mixing is here to stay, at least for a little while, so the outfit still feels fresh. I also added another holiday staple to the look: velvet shoes! I love all the combined elements of bows, plaid, greens, reds, and a little velvet for the perfect holiday look! It certainly was a hit at the grocery store, which is where I wore it to do some last minute shopping for the holidays!

Bejeweled for the Holidays

With Christmas right around the corner, it's definitely time to break out all of my holiday clothing! While I am currently caught up with preparing for Christmas, it will also be the New Year soon as well, so it's fun to find sparkling clothing for that holiday! One skirt that is perfect for both Christmas and the New Year is this gold mini skirt from J. Crew Factory! I have this paper bag waist skirt in other styles, and I absolutely adore it, because it's such a cute, easy to throw on piece that goes with just about anything!

Another fun and festive item that I have added to my wardrobe recently that works for both Christmas and the New Year are these green satin bow shoes! I love the festive, green color and how they complement so much of my holiday season wardrobe! I thought these shoes added a fun pop of color to this black and gold skirt, and my jeweled-tone cashmere sweater was the topping on the tree, so to speak!

Purple and Gold

I feel like this Eva Franco maxi skirt could easily be mistaken for a Van Gogh because it is indeed a work of art! This skirt is another one of my Black Friday purchases from this year and it's perfect for the holidays because of hints of gold woven into the fabric of this lovely abstract floral print! As you can see, due to the print and the voluminous nature of the skirt, it definitely makes a statement! I paired the skirt with a lilac cashmere sweater and a pair of saffron suede kitten heels from Alley shoes to complete the look.

Speaking of the shoes, I have really gotten a lot of use out of these Ally kitten heels since being gifted them last month! I can certainly say with confidence that they are my most comfortable pair of heels and the color goes with just about everything in my wardrobe! You can save $40 on your first pair of heels with Ally with code Hellokatie40 at checkout.  You can also save 10% on Ally flats by using code Katiegirl10 at checkout. Now is a great time to treat yourself to a comfy pair of shoes that you will enjoy all year long!

Pink Plaid

Now that it's December, plaid season is in full swing! I love all types of plaid, but my favorite is probably anything that has pink in it! I love pink plaid because it's festive for the holidays, but it's also bright and colorful! So, when I saw that J. Crew came out with a pink plaid print this year, I naturally had to get both the pants that I'm wearing in today's post and also the button down slim shirt. (I also might have to spring for the matching blazer as well!) I love that these pink plaid pants can be paired with fun shades of pink, like my pink cashmere sweater here, and pastel colors, like my mint crossbody bag!

I have not posted that many J. Crew outfits on my blog over the last year or so, because I haven't been that excited about the brand and what they've offered over the last few seasons. However, this month, they have really hit it out of the park with fun, colorful clothing in sumptuous fabrics, such as velvet, sequins and satin. Because of this, I went all out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and bought quite a few items I love. Thus, you will be seeing many more J. Crew looks in the upcoming weeks! Speaking of old vs. new J. Crew, these pink satin shoes represent J. Crew from a few years ago. I love them so much and I thought they would be the perfect complement to the pink plaid. Plus, they have bows for the holidays, so they are also very festive!

A Cactus Christmas

I thought this green pom pom dress would be a perfect dress for Christmastime! Originally, I wanted to photograph it with some festive holiday decorations but that location didn't work out due to bad lighting. Well, I found this other location with cactus and I figured that, although it's not festive, it was better than nothing. Once I returned home and started looking at the pictures, I realized that the cactus in the background somewhat matched the pom pom dress. I guess it could actually be a cactus dress if you use your imagination! So, while my intent was to wear this dress for Christmas, it really could work for a variety of different occasions and locations!

The one thing that does speak to this being a holiday outfit is the plaid headband and, I suppose, the gold glitter flats.  I think these two items definitely help give the dress a holiday vibe. While we were taking pictures and walking around this spot in Downtown Los Angeles, a woman who was passing by said that my outfit was "a whole vibe"! My husband turned to me and asked what that meant. Clearly, he doesn't spend much (i.e., any) time on Instagram!

Bountiful Bows

Earlier in the week, I posted about a casual Christmas look that I am likely to wear on Christmas Day. Today, I'm doing a complete 180 and showing an elegant, dressed up look that would be perfect for a party or going out to a special event during the holidays! When I saw this maxi length taffeta bow skirt online right before Black Friday, it was love at first sight! I really love the bows and this skirt has bows galore! I also love the combination of pink and red together for a fun color combo. It should be noted that this skirt also comes in a black and white version for a more traditional look.

To be honest, I don't think I will really have anywhere special to wear this outfit this year but sometimes it's fun just to get dressed up for no reason at all! I'm also a big fan of mixing dressy pieces, such as this skirt, with casual, everyday pieces, which could be a future styling option. So, while I dressed up this look with a black turtleneck and patent leather pumps, I could easily see rocking this skirt with a sweatshirt and sneakers. I know my husband, who is not a fan of mixing high and low, will hate it, but I might just have to give it a try to spite him!

The Perfect Christmas Sweater

I think I found the perfect sweater to wear for Christmas! This festive Christmas sweater from Boden has it all: it's colorful, it's cute and it's very Christmassy! My favorite part of the sweater is that it depicts rows of adorable snowmen, gingerbread men, and little birds decked out in pom pom hats. While many people like to wear what's known as an "ugly Christmas sweater" around the holidays, I think this sweater finds a nice balance between being fun and festive, without being gaudy! I also like that you can wear it with just a pair of jeans and cute loafers for a casual look. It's definitely what I'm going to be wearing this year to celebrate Christmas Day!

Due to the fact that Boden is a British company, I thought it was only fitting to take these photos by these traditional British phone booths! It was a nice surprise to find out that the small shopping center they're located in had also decorated for Christmas, adding to the festive feel. Boden could definitely use this location for their next catalog but I guess they have plenty of these across the pond!
