Minty Rainbows

These photos were taken a week or so ago (the weeks are sort of all bleeding together!) on our last cool, cloudy day here in Los Angeles. Since then, the weather has been hot and sunny and, to be honest, I sort of miss the cooler temps. Despite the clouds on this particular day, my new rainbow sneakers had a way of brightening the day up with their colorful, playful vibe. The sneakers are the result of a collaboration between the sneaker company SeaVees and one of my favorite designers, Trina Turk. When Trina Turk asked me if they could send me a pair, I didn't hesitate to say yes because these shoes were definitely meant for me!

Since I'm spending a lot of time lately in casual wear, sneakers are just what I need to complete my more laid back wardrobe. Plus, the rainbow print is right up my alley! I decided to take my new kicks for their "maiden voyage" to the park and pair them with this new minty fresh sweater. I thought the mint color was a nice complement to some of the colors found in the sneakers. In the future, I could easily see myself wearing these sneakers with shorts or even a cute little casual dress; the possibilities are truly endless when you've got rainbow shoes on your feet! Now, if I could just go someplace really fun in them, I would be all set!

The Power of Flowers

Nothing screams "Spring is here!" like a beautiful floral print! There's just something so happy and cheerful about flowers, especially if you see them as a reminder of a fresh start and new beginning! One of the floral prints that I've been obsessed with lately is this colorful J. Crew Liberty floral print. Just looking at all of the lovely colors featured in the print puts a smile on my face. I first purchased the headband in this floral print and, while it's very cute, I found that I needed something more in the print because I adored it so much! Given this, I eventually caved and purchased this dress in the Liberty Floral print, which is now on sale.

One of the things that I like about sleeveless dresses, such as this one, is that you can dress it up or down and also layer it. While this dress would look adorable with a little cardigan sweater over it, for this look I opted for a denim jacket for a more casual look. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am pretty much just getting dressed up now and taking pictures while on walks, so I didn't want to be too dressy for the occasion! (Admittedly, it made less of a scene than when I put on my big rainbow tulle skirt that I got last month!) Maybe when we get back to work or get to go to work again, I will try the dress styled a different way!

Little White Dress

Everyone needs a little white dress for summer, right? Since I don't do anything without at least some color, I picked this white summer dress, which has a little bit of color woven throughout it. I purchased the dress from Red Dress Boutique at the beginning of the quarantine and although I knew I wouldn't be able to wear it right away, I had a few places mapped out in my mind for where I might wear it once summer arrived. Well, now even going out to places this summer seems to be in question, at least here in California, so for now I am content for just wearing this dress on a stroll around the neighborhood. As far as I can tell, I'm the most dressed up person in my neighborhood when it comes to taking a walk!

One thing I love about this dress is that the colors in it go with many of the bags in my collection. While I was torn between a yellow bag and a blue one, I decided to take my styling cues from the way the dress was shown online, which included a blue bag. I think Prada calls the color of my bag here cornflower blue, which pairs nicely with the dress. My bag is also the perfect size in which to conceal a DSLR camera while walking around the neighborhood so that my neighbors don't think I'm too strange!

What Day of the Week Is It?

Like many of you, I'm at the point in my quarantine life where I have only a vague sense of what day it is. While I still have to keep track of assignments, meetings, etc. for work, the days sort of just blur together in a way that feels very foreign to anything that I have ever experienced before. Speaking of things that are foreign, or at least in a foreign language, how cute is this tee that features the day of the week in French? I actually had no idea what the words on the tee meant until I read the description on the website but, to be honest, the days of the week might as well be in a foreign language to me at this point!

I wore this outfit for a stroll, which has now become an at least daily ritual. About once a week, however, my husband and I, myself being dressed up, take a walk sans our dog, William, because he can be a little crazy when we stop and take too many pictures for too long of a time! While I'm not always as happy with the results as I might be if I had the luxury of going into the city to be photographed against a cool backdrop or a colorful wall, I'm starting to become less picky, which might, in the long run, be a good thing! (I also now know where all the bougainvillea is!) For this stroll, I paired my tee with a cute, orange skirt and summery knotted headband. It's not the normal thing I would wear to take a stroll but it felt nice to get somewhat dressed up for a little while and it was a nice distraction from whatever I was doing on whatever day it was!

Rainbow Tulle Skirt

When I first saw this rainbow tulle skirt, it was love at first sight! It's poofy and colorful, although somewhat impractical, but I love it! While I would have loved to have worn this skirt out to "someplace fabulous" as Carrie Bradshaw, who also loved tulle, would say, I had to settle for a deserted park due to the current circumstances. On the bright side, once all of this is over and we are able to go out again (who knows when that will be!), I can restyle the skirt and wear it out someplace fun!

I took my styling cues for this skirt from the way I saw it styled in the J. Crew Catalog, which was basically just keeping things simple with a white button down shirt. Once summer comes, I'd love to do something fun with it with some sort of statement tee. (I have the perfect pink one in mind!) Because this skirt is quite "extra", keeping things simple with just a plain shirt, be it a white button down or a tee, makes the most sense. Hopefully, I will get to restyle this skirt sooner than later but, for now, I will just have to dream about twirling around town like Carrie Bradshaw in this rainbow tulle skirt!

My Headband Habit

This winter, I said I would only get a couple of these turban knot style headbands. Well, buying one or two turned into six or seven and, to be honest, I kind of became addicted! Well, I'm back at this headband obsession for spring and the good news is that the headbands for spring are even cuter than the ones for winter, in my opinion! I am especially loving gingham headbands, including the cute pink one that I am sporting below. It instantly makes a plain, casual outfit, like this grey sweatshirt, look super cute!

Wearing a headband is also perfect for what we are all going through right now regarding staying at home and sheltering in place. First of all, if you have to do a Zoom meeting, it's an easy way to look cute and put together from the shoulders up with pretty much no effort! Also, because there is no going to the salon, everyone's hair is a mess! Headbands are a good way to cover up or distract from the fact that maybe your roots are showing or, in my case, your bangs have grown out! (I was right on the verge of needing to get a haircut before all of this happened, so there's no telling what my hair will look like after this is all over!) So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that now is the perfect time to become addicted to headbands! Below are a handful of my favorites for spring or to start or to continue your addiction!

Keep it Bright!

This week is supposed to be my spring break vacation but it obviously doesn't feel at all like spring break! In addition to this, it's also quite gloomy, rainy and cold here in Los Angeles, which only adds to the feeling of doom and gloom. Well, let's put all of that aside and keep it bright and cheery! Eventually, all of this will be over and just imagine how good it will feel to get to go out into the sunshine and see each other again! When that eventually happens, I'm going to be ready with a lot of fun clothes for spring and summer, like this popover dress in this fun, festive floral print! Below you can also shop some of the other fun items J. Crew has to offer in this stunning floral print!

I actually own this dress in a striped print, which I purchased last fall. For at least the last year, J. Crew has come out with this dress in different colors and patterns each season because, clearly, they know that they have a winner! As the "popover" name suggests, this is a really easy dress to just throw on with no fuss! It's loose fitting silhouette is also incredibly comfy, making it perfect for the warmer spring and summer days to come. Last of all, how fun is this print? I'd like to imagine myself wearing this particular dress while taking a stroll down the beach, even though it seems like ages since I've been to the beach! Perhaps after this is all over, I'll be motivated to go to the beach more often? I know if I do, I won't take the ability to do that for granted any more!

A Colorful Skirt for Easter

When I first saw this rainbow tulle skirt from Eva Franco online, I knew I was going to get it! (It does, after all, have a rainbow print!) I knew I wanted to wear it for our annual Easter family dinner and Easter egg hunt. One of the reasons why I thought it would be perfect for this occasion is that, at least to me, this skirt looks like a lovely, colorful Easter egg! Decorating Easter eggs is actually one of my favorite Easter traditions. Well, plans change and while I did get the skirt, in light of the current situation, we will not be able to have a big family gathering for Easter dinner this year. Instead, I'm wearing the skirt for a jaunt in the park!

While I won't get to wear this skirt this year for Easter, on the bright side, there's always next year! (Unless I just wear it around the house on Easter!) It's also a skirt that I would love to eventually wear for work, perhaps with a denim jacket over my sweater to make the fancy tulle seem a little more casual. So, while life might be on pause for a while, it doesn't mean that things have permanently stopped and there's still a lot to look forward to, even if it seems to be a long ways off. Also, I'd love to keep up with some of our holiday traditions! Maybe I just might be going on an Easter egg hunt this year after all, only this time, just with my husband and William in our backyard. On second thought, that would not be good because William would eat the eggs (as he did one year!) and have some serious gas the next day!
