Quintessentially Palm Springs

We went to Palm Springs for a short day trip last week. Palm Springs tends to get crowded in April around spring break and Coachella, so the month of March is the perfect time to beat the crowds and to also enjoy weather that is not nearly as hot as the scorchers they have during the summer! Because Palm Springs is a paradise of gorgeous and colorful, not to mention "Instagramable", locations, I always try to hit a couple cool places for blog photos or Instagram pics. On this most recent trip, the Trixie Motel was on the top of my list of places to check out. As you can see, it's definitely a pink lover's paradise! I thought this Trina Turk top, which screams Palm Springs, would be the perfect thing to wear to this pretty pink location and also while walking around Palm Springs!

The Trixie Motel is definitely quintessentially Palm Springs in its aesthetic, much like my top! The motel hasn't open yet, but I have already seen numerous photos of it on Instagram, so clearly they are getting a lot of hype due to the gorgeous design of these doors and the abundance of pink! (Who can resist pink?) This motel would definitely be a place I would love to stay if we ever did more than just a day trip to the Palm Springs area! Maybe next time?

A Colorful Weekend

I usually don't post on the weekends but I have had so many colorful adventures lately that I thought I would share! The colorful adventure that I am sharing with you today highlights my recent trip to the Flour Shop in Beverly Hills. Technically, the flour shop is a bakery that features cute cakes and confections but they also have a gift shop selling colorful, rainbow accessories. As you can see, this place is right up my alley! The icing on the cake, however, is this amazing rainbow wall! As soon as I spotted this on Instagram, I knew I had to visit because, naturally, anything with rainbows catches my eye!

Not wanting to miss the opportunity to be dressed to match the occasion and the location, I searched my closet for the perfect rainbow print outfit to match this epic rainbow. Ultimately, I decided on my beloved Trina Turk rainbow "Honolulu" dress. Yes, it was tough choosing from all of the colorful items I own but, instinctively, I felt that this dress was made for this particular location! You can judge for yourself and, if you're in the area, you can also go on your own rainbow adventure at the Flour Shop and even get a rainbow cake to take home!

Minty Rainbows

These photos were taken a week or so ago (the weeks are sort of all bleeding together!) on our last cool, cloudy day here in Los Angeles. Since then, the weather has been hot and sunny and, to be honest, I sort of miss the cooler temps. Despite the clouds on this particular day, my new rainbow sneakers had a way of brightening the day up with their colorful, playful vibe. The sneakers are the result of a collaboration between the sneaker company SeaVees and one of my favorite designers, Trina Turk. When Trina Turk asked me if they could send me a pair, I didn't hesitate to say yes because these shoes were definitely meant for me!

Since I'm spending a lot of time lately in casual wear, sneakers are just what I need to complete my more laid back wardrobe. Plus, the rainbow print is right up my alley! I decided to take my new kicks for their "maiden voyage" to the park and pair them with this new minty fresh sweater. I thought the mint color was a nice complement to some of the colors found in the sneakers. In the future, I could easily see myself wearing these sneakers with shorts or even a cute little casual dress; the possibilities are truly endless when you've got rainbow shoes on your feet! Now, if I could just go someplace really fun in them, I would be all set!

Fancy Pants for Christmas

Christmas is right around the corner and now that I am off on break I am focused on baking cookies, wrapping gifts, and getting ready for Christmas dinner. Although it feels like a lot to do, it's definitely a fun and festive kind of stress! (Much better than the stress that I associate with work!) Although I have been wearing non-stop plaid over the last week or two, it's also fun to find some ways to introduce holiday colors into your wardrobe that don't exactly scream "Christmas" the way some plaid does. I was gifted these pants last month from Trina Turk and I waited until this weekend to take them out for a stroll because I thought they would be lovely for Christmas. I picked them out because I love the rich, jewel-tone colors featured in the stripes. They definitely work for Christmas but they could be worn throughout the fall and winter months.

I thought the bow on the collar of my white shirt would also be the perfect nod to Christmas because bows and wrapping presents are both an integral part of preparing for the season! Speaking of presents, my Gucci sunglasses in this post were actually a Christmas present from myself to myself, so I didn't even need to wrap them! While it's true that I have amassed quite the sunglasses collection (Elton John and Bono would be jealous!) these are technically my first pair with crystals and they were pretty deeply discounted, so I didn't feel too guilty about purchasing them. Plus, it's the holidays, which is always a good time to indulge in treating yourself a little while you're looking for the perfect gifts for others!

Last but not least, my silky, satin pants are the perfect match with Rudolph's pants in the picture below. Who knew that Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was such a style icon? To be honest, I kind of want his gold vest, as it would be the perfect addition to my outfit!

All Rainbows, All the Time!

It might be hard to believe but there actually was a time long ago when I wore a lot of black and more muted colors in my wardrobe. Now that I've gone over to the colorful side of the wardrobe spectrum, there's no going back! I've purchased a lot of rainbow print items this summer but this sheath dress with its wide swaths of rainbows just might be one of my favorites! It was also a very difficult dress to get, not because of scarcity but because of an issue with Lord and Taylor, which is the store from which I purchased the dress. Before I go on a rant about this, you can find the dress at other retailers and it's also currently on sale here.

So, while I may look happy in the picture above, the journey to purchasing this dress was a very tedious one. You see, I placed an order at the beginning of summer for this dress and it was supposed to arrive around the Fourth of July, however I never received any shipping confirmation. Finally, I called up Lord and Taylor and they said they canceled the order because they thought it was fraudulent. I reassured them that it was not and then tried to place another order and yet again it didn't go through. The company said that the security department would call me on three separate occasions, which never happened. To make a long story short, I finally got the dress by opening an account in my husband's name, much to his chagrin, and now, a month later I have my rainbow dress! My husband said that because of all this difficulty, perhaps this dress wasn't meant to be part of my wardrobe, however I prefer to see a different moral in this whole saga: with hard work and perseverance anything is possible!
