Stripes with a Twist of Lemon

Once again, Target has hit it out of the park with this cotton stripe dress! I love that this dress is not only stylish but it's also so comfortable and easy to wear. I wore it out for the first time this weekend and it was just one of those dresses that you throw on and add some colorful accessories to and you're done! I also like the fact that the dress is machine washable (much of my wardrobe is not) because my husband and I went out for Shabu Shabu and he accidentally dropped an egg from his chopsticks in the Shabu pot and some of the broth splattered on my dress! Luckily, we took these pictures before lunch and the stain came out when I washed the dress afterward, so there were no hard feelings.

As I mentioned, this dress is a fantastic blank canvas for colorful and fun accessories like this lemon purse. I've been eyeing this purse all summer and when the price finally dropped enough to that which I thought was reasonable, I snagged it! I think I now have about three "fruit" themed bags: a watermelon, a grapefruit and now a lemon. It's a veritable fruit salad! Well, I would rather be wearing my fruit in the form of a cute bag than wearing my lunch all over my dress just in case my husband dropped some of it on me!

Smile and Say Cheese!

One of my favorite things about wearing quirky pieces like this camera bag is the reaction I know I will inevitably get from my husband and his family. For example, I know that my husband will always harp on how impractical my choices are. I wore this outfit, complete with the camera bag, out to lunch with him last weekend. When he asked me to put his wallet in my bag, I showed him that I could only throw in a few credit cards, my driver license and some makeup into the bag. I also demonstrated that my iPhone 6 Plus was about an inch too big to fit as well. To this, he sarcastically and rhetorically asked, "Who would have thought that a bag that looks like a camera would be so impractical?"

After our lunch, we stopped to see my husband's grandmother and after assessing how big and seemingly painful my earrings were, she moved on to looking at my bag. (A side note: these earrings really are heavy, but I think my ear muscles have been built up over the last year to the point where they can withstand the weight!) Anyway, upon seeing the bag, she thought that it was an actual camera! I tried to explain to her that it was a bag by opening it up and showing her the inside, to which she asked, "So it doesn't take pictures? It just scares people?" I didn't realize that a metallic camera bag was scary, but my husband and his grandmother clearly disagreed. Regardless, the three of us had a good laugh over the comment!

Wacky Watermelons

I'm honestly not sure what would be my favorite fruit . Actually, it's probably the obscure star fruit, but watermelon would be a close second. Not only are watermelons delicious to eat, they're also a lot of fun to wear as well! This spring I picked up this cute watermelon crossbody bag and even though it's quirky, it seems to go with everything I own; I get a ton of use out it! The watermelon button-down here is a more recent find, plucked straight from the clearance racks of J. Crew Factory.

I thought it might be a little much to pair one watermelon themed item with another, but since the print of the shirt is relatively small, I think it works and therefore doesn't scream, "Hey! There's a woman who is obsessed with watermelons!". If you are also obsessed with watermelons or want to wear them head to toe like I am in today's post, check out some of my watermelon picks below. Many of them are on sale, now that summer is coming to an end, so it's the perfect time to stock up!

Short and Sweet

I have a pretty big sweet tooth, especially when it comes to chocolate. Despite my love of sweets, I'm actually not that fond of cupcakes, however, I do like to look at them because they're so cute! That's why this cupcake shaped bag from SheIn suits me perfectly. As you know, I love bags that are quirky and look like other things, so why not a bag that looks like dessert? Plus, at a price point of under $25 you can't go wrong ordering this adorable bag off the menu!

I paired my sweet cupcake bag with my ruffled pink skirt from J. Crew. It's a little shorter than some of my other skirts, but it looks adorable when paired with sneakers for a more casual look. Plus, it has ruffles, so that's just icing on the cake, or shall I say cupcake!

Last of all, I am excited to be back at one of my favorite colorful walls! I've been trying to get out and check off some of the L.A. street art/murals that I haven't yet seen, but I keep coming back to this one. This wall offers plenty of colors and shapes, plus you don't really see it on any other blogs or Instagram accounts so it's sort of my little secret. Just like my cupcake bag it's colorful, sweet and definitely unique!

Cactus Crazy

I was fortunate enough this weekend to run into (although, thankfully, not literally!) a row of cactus that just happened to match the cactus button down shirt I was wearing perfectly. When taking these pictures, my husband was afraid I would backup into one or more of these prickly plants because I had a couple of such mishaps this spring with cactus when we were out in the desert. I was careful, however, and luckily my posterior was saved from any painful stickers this time!

I've always loved cactus. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I grew up on the East Coast and cactus always seemed so exotic. Or perhaps my love of cactus is due to me lacking a green thumb since there's not much you can do to kill a cactus! Whatever it is, I'm not the only one who seems to be crazy for cacti, as they seem to be all the rage right now in fashion. In fact, I'm going to have to get a handbag to match my shirt, given all the fun options that are now available featuring my favorite plant!

Wedge of Watermelon

It's no secret that I love statement purses. You know, the kind that have become synonymous with brands like Kate Spade. Unfortunately, most of Kate Spade's statement type bags that take the form of camels, cameras or oranges are hundreds of dollars, which is a lot for just a "fun" bag made of straw. So imagine my delight when I came across this whimsical watermelon bag from SheIn for only $16! In addition to watermelons, they also have a veritable fruit salad of other bags including a pineapple bag, an orange bag and a banana bag!

I wore this bag to an eye appointment and it was a huge hit with both the doctor and the staff there. I took these photos after my appointment and I think I can just make out a trace of a line going across my forehead that was caused from inserting my face into that machine that holds the lenses that you look through at the optometrist's office. It felt like I was there for hours looking at the letters that they project up on the wall! Luckily, everything checked out with my eyes so I am able to gaze upon the cuteness of my watermelon purse with complete clarity!
