When I was planning this outfit, I didn't take into consideration that it was "Fashion Disaster" day at my school in honor of spirit week. Most of the students and teachers interpreted a "fashion disaster" as wearing mismatched patterns like polka dots with plaid. (You can probably already see where I am going with this one.) So when I showed up wearing the aforementioned polka dots and plaid it caused some confusion from students and teachers alike. (Actually, it was mostly teachers.) I received many compliments such as "You look good today" or "I love your skirt!" but then these compliments were followed by a quizzical expression and questions such as "are you
trying to be a fashion disaster because you don't match?" Clearly not everyone is hip to the idea of mixing patterns; I think this is an idea that is prolific in the J. Crew and blogging communities, but not so much applied by most people in "real life".
Well, fashion disaster or not, I really liked the way this ensemble turned out. Fashion disaster or a masterpiece of mixing? You be the judge!
