My pre-blogger self would have never thought to combine this polka dot shirt with a bold graphic skirt. Both pieces, the boy shirt in dots (here and now on sale) and the pixelated houndstooth skirt are from J. Crew. The combination of these two items was featured on the J. Crew website and left a lasting impression on me ever since. I didn't buy the shirt and the skirt with the intention of wearing them together, but I thought I would give the pairing a spin today.
Normally I try things on together beforehand, just to make sure it doesn't turn out to be a "hot mess" in the morning. I don't have a lot of time in the mornings, so I like to throw my stuff on (often it's laid out ahead of time) and forgo the hemming and hawing over what goes with what. Today was one of those mornings when I was rushing (as usual) to get to work and I threw everything together (with no planning) and prayed it would work. I think the total effect turned out not too shabby, plus I added the final touch of this J. Crew "wildflower" bracelet to tie it all together. I guess dots and hounds really can peacefully coexist.

I agree with you that dots & hounds can coexist peacefully. Great pattern mixing, Katie! :)
