Hello Kitty Valentine

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so, of course, I've been wearing all of my hearts and red and pink themed clothing in celebration! While I have a lot of things that are perfectly themed for Valentine's Day, I don't think anything says "Happy Valentine's Day" quite as much as this Hello Kitty conversation heart skirt! When I saw this skirt as a new arrival last month at ModCloth as part of their Hello Kitty collaboration, it was love at first sight, especially for someone who loves Hello Kitty as much as I do! I also sprung for the matching Hello Kitty blouse because I thought it would be a versatile piece that not only matches the skirt perfectly but could also be worn for many non-Valentine's Day occasions as well!

Usually I don't talk about the sizing of my purchases on my blog unless I feel an item runs large or small and it might be helpful for my readers to have a heads-up if they intend to purchase the same item. I very seldomly order clothing from ModCloth so I am not sure about how their sizing typically runs but I did find the skirt to run small. I actually sized up two sizes from my normal J. Crew size to get the correct fit. (I know that I have probably put on some quarantine pounds but, even taking that into consideration, it still seemed small!) Since I am discussing the fit of the skirt, I will just throw in that I found the blouse to be true to size. ModCloth also has some other adorable items featuring Hello Kitty, so if you want Hello Kitty to be your Valentine this year, definitely check out the ModCloth collaboration!

The Most Sincere Pumpkin Patch

I am a little disappointed that It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will not be airing this year on network TV but because I have the DVD, I guess it's really no big deal. Like Linus in the classic Peanuts Halloween special, I am always on the lookout for the perfect or "most sincere pumpkin patch." This year, I found some gorgeous pumpkins at Descanso Gardens for their annual Halloween themed event. The botanical gardens at Descanso are currently filled with pumpkins as far as the eye can see and that made for a lovely day and some fun pictures! It was truly a feast for the eyes and a great way to get in the Halloween spirit. While I didn't dress up in costume, I did wear a fun striped skirt with just a hint of orange in it, which was the perfect match for my orange bag that is vaguely reminiscent of a big pumpkin!

Descanso Gardens is always a beautiful place to visit. A few years ago, we went in the spring to stroll the gardens and look at the lovely tulips and cherry blossoms. While the gardens looked different for fall, they were just as lovely, especially with all of the pumpkin themed displays. While visiting the gardens last week did make it seem more like fall, unfortunately, it was quite hot on the day that we visited the gardens. Since we had to purchase tickets in advance, I randomly picked a day, not knowing what the weather would be like. Despite the hot temperatures, it was still fun to go in celebration of Halloween. So, while Halloween might be a little bit different this year, I am so happy that we have so many fun, outdoor activities here in Los Angeles to partake in this year!

Pencil Prints Because Everyone Makes Mistakes!

Because I'm a teacher, it's only natural that I would gravitate to prints with pencils! What's the only thing better than a cute pencil print? A print with colored pencils on it! Sometimes I think I made a mistake with my career and should've chosen to become an art teacher as opposed to an English teacher. I didn't really think about all of the hours I would spend with a red pen, correcting essays and writing assignments! Still, there are aspects of the job that I absolutely love. To go along with the theme of pencils, I'm featuring some of the pencil prints I truly adore for fall. The great thing about all of these items is that wearing them definitely would not be considered a mistake in my book!

Speaking of mistakes, one mistake, albeit not one made by me, was this skirt. To make a long story short, I ordered this pleated skirt from Target a couple weeks ago. The only problem was that when I went to pick it up in store, it was the style but not the color I ordered! I had my heart set on getting the color block version of this skirt, only to find a bright pink one in my bag instead. You might think I would be angry or disappointed but I was actually happy because I realized I liked the pink one better! I guess sometimes mistakes can turn out for the best!
