Hi, Barbie!

With the release of the new Barbie movie less than a day away, it seems like everywhere you look everything is Barbie! Thinking more on it, Barbie-mania has been going on for months now, but who can resist indulging in all things pink in celebration of the release of the movie? So, in celebration of the Barbie movie, I am styling this pink and white striped button down top, which is definitely something I think Barbie would wear, with a few different skirts. This pink and white top is so versatile and goes with so much in my wardrobe that I can't choose which skirt I liked it best with!

As you can see, the skirts featured in this post all have a tropical theme with pineapples, palms, and flamingo prints. While I am featuring different skirts, I kept the same accessories for all of the outfits. I definitely think both this fun pink straw bag and my metallic pink shoes would be accessories found in Barbie's closet! You will notice that there are also several colorful murals that I am using for this post. The good news is that these murals can all be found at Dot's Cafe in Pasadena! Because the murals are all pink, or at least have some pink found in them, I think Barbie would approve of them too!

Colorful Abstract Skirt

Everyone knows I love a colorful skirt, so when I found this fun skirt at Target last month it was love at first sight! I adore the colorful abstract print and, in my opinion, the skirt looks like more of a designer piece than something you might find at Target. In this post I am showing how I styled the skirt in two slightly different ways. Luckily, all of the bright colors found in the print provide endless styling possibilities! Below I styled the skirt with a simple yellow tee and these purple sandals that I just picked up at the outlet mall.

As you can see, the second way I wore the skirt isn't all that different from the first. For the look below, the weather was hot, so I chose a green tank and also some silver sandals to keep things cool. I kept the same pink bag because it really brings out the pink in the pattern.  In the future, I could see pattern mixing with the skirt by adding a black and white striped top or, if it's cooler, adding a blazer for a more polished look. The styling possibilities are as endless as the colors!

Marimekko Inspired

One of my favorite designers for gorgeous prints is Marimekko!  I just love their fun prints and their collaborations with brands like Target and Uniqlo! Well, this floral skirt is not from Marimekko or one of their collabs, but it does feature a print that I think could be easily mistaken as a Marimekko creation. The great thing about this skirt is that it's under $20 and the print also comes in a dress version and shirtdress version! (If you follow me on Instagram, you will notice that I purchased the shirtdress too!)

The things that I love about this skirt are the fun, slightly abstract print and the fun colors! I think these vibrant orange and pink colors are perfect for summer! To play up these colors, I paired it with a tangerine ruffle top and some pink accessories. This is certainly a skirt that I will be reaching for all summer long!

Red, White and Blue

Happy Fourth of July! I love to celebrate American Independence Day with fireworks, BBQ and, of course, a patriotic red, white and blue outfit! This red and white wrap skirt is something I purchased last month and saved for the Fourth of July, but you really could wear it all summer long...I certainly plan to! I also purchased the matching red and white striped top, which makes the skirt look more like a dress, but I decided to save the top for another occasion. I thought the skirt would be more festive paired with a blue tee shirt instead. I also think my shoes, which are from many season ago, look a little bit like fireworks bursting in the air, thus the whole look is inspired by the Fourth of July from head to toe!

Not only is my outfit red, white and blue but, obviously, so is this mural in back of me! This mural is located at an art college in Pasadena and they have several murals that I occasionally use for photos. Clearly, this abstract mural was the obvious choice for a backdrop for this particular patriotic look. As always, I am dressed to match both the holiday and my location! Now, bring on the BBQ and the fireworks!

Living on Island Time

It's been almost a month of being on summer vacation and I think I'm officially on "island time" where the days are starting to blend together and I never know the day, date or time! (To be honest, it's bringing back some memories of when we first quarantined in 2020!) I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing but I have been at home for a lot of the vacation working on projects and things around the house, which is nice because I feel like I don't have the ability to devote a lot of time to such things when I'm working during the school year. To go along with the "island time" theme, I'm wearing this tropical skirt and rainbow straw bag that was gifted to me by Talbots. When I saw Talbots summer collection, I immediately gravitated toward these two pieces because they were bright, colorful and fun; plus, I love a good tropical vibe!

One of my projects is organizing my closets, which I try to do thoroughly once a year. It has come to my attention that I have a lot of clothes (that's probably not too surprising!) and so I'm trying to focus more on buying some basics that can go with everything. One of my recent purchases was this woven leather belt that I picked up on sale at Anthrologie. I'm always on the lookout for a good belt and this one is such a pretty color that I couldn't pass it up. I have also been trying to buy some basic tops and T-shirts that I can add to my wardrobe. Lately, I've been obsessed with ruffle details, like the one on this cute blue top. As you can see, I paired both items with my island pieces for a tropical yet chic look!

Candy Stripes

Now that the weather is getting hotter, there's nothing I love better than a cute sundress, especially one with colorful stripes! This striped maxi dress is the perfect dress for warm weather because it's both cute and comfortable, which is ideal for the sweltering summer season! Also, my dress is now on sale, so it's a great time to buy it at the start of summer so that you can wear it all season long! I actually wore this dress a couple of months ago to Palm Springs, which, at the time, was already very hot, even though it was only March! Palm Springs this time of the year is unbearably hot but this dress would still be the perfect thing to wear for such an occasion!

As you know, when I'm in Palm Springs, I almost always stop by the Saguaro Hotel. Of all the cool, colorful spots in Palm Springs, it's probably my favorite! I especially love the multi-colored doors at the Saguaro, which were a great match for the multi-colored stripes in my dress! Making a sojourn out to Palm Springs is definitely worth the short drive and the heat in the summer! Who knows, I might just have to brave the heat and go back in the upcoming months!

An Out of This World Mural

Last week I celebrated a birthday but, as many of you already know, celebrating a birthday in 2020 is a little different than it was before! With so many things still closed here, it's a little hard to plan a fun day to celebrate but I managed to put together a little outing to Venice Beach for a quick bite, sightseeing and, of course, wall hunting! (Venice is home to so many gorgeous walls and murals that it's truly paradise for a wall hunter such as myself!) This fun mural that looks like it came straight from the imagination of Lisa Frank has been on my list of places to hit up for a while now. It's definitely a color lover's dream come true and the spaceship makes it out of this world! To go with all of the bright colors, I dressed myself in head to toe neon, including this pink neon sequin skirt that I've had for months but never got around to wearing until now!

As I previously mentioned, it was hard to do a lot in Venice due to the fact that so many things are largely shutdown but, luckily, Venice offers a wide variety of outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy, including walking on the boardwalk or down Abbott Kinney Blvd. where you can take in the people and the shops, some of which are now open. We also went to a hamburger stand that is supposed to have the best cheeseburgers in Los Angeles. I'm not sure if they were the best cheeseburgers in LA but they were very good! In fact, I would be willing to go back in the near future to get another one...and to hit up some more murals for photos! So, all in all, this was a great way, an out of this world way, to spend the day and also a birthday!
