Target Does it Again!

When I posted a picture of this dress on Instagram this week my caption jokingly stated that I was cheating on J. Crew with Target. With this ruffle striped dress from Target it's easy to see why! While I obviously don't shop exclusively at J. Crew, a lot of my wardrobe does come from the brand. Lately I haven't been as smitten with their styles for summer, so I am looking elsewhere for inspiration. Target has been coming out with so many cute and might I add colorful styles lately it's hard to resist. The added bonus is that the prices are so low you don't have to wait for things to go on sale to indulge!

This particular dress caught my eye because it has stripes and it's colorful! The only thing that gave me pause about the dress was the style. The big ruffle and the off the shoulder look is not a silhouette that I normally gravitate to, plus this wouldn't be a work appropriate dress so it becomes more limiting. Regardless of these concerns, like I previously stated, the low price made it appealing to try for something different. (Just a quick note about fit, it does run a little big so keep that in mind.) Truth be told, the dress makes me feel like I should be in Cabo San Lucas with a tropical drink in my hand! Well, if I travel there in the near future this dress is definitely coming with me!

Pencil Me In!

Anthropologie is doing something that I really love this summer: they are bringing back some of their classic and beloved prints from the past and incorporating them into new styles! This pencil print blouse that has cheerful colored pencils all over it is from this collection. The original version of the print appeared years ago on a pencil skirt (yes, a pencil print on a pencil skirt!), which I actually own, however I couldn't resist getting the blouse version too! The skirt version is really coveted on eBay, so I can just imagine how popular the print will be on a blouse!

This blouse comes in several other classic prints, including a telephone print and a lemon print. I bought both of these in addition to the pencil version because I was so smitten with the prints! Because of all of the vibrant colors, these blouses will go with just about everything in my wardrobe and can be styled in so many creative ways. I can certainly imagine wearing all three blouses all year round. With my pencil blouse, I went for some bold colors in the form of these purple sandals (I also bought these in multiple colors!) and red pants. I look forward to styling this shirt come fall and winter, so stay tuned!

Dot. Dot. Dot.

I wore this polka dot dress from Target on my first day of summer vacation, which now seems like it was a very long time ago! We celebrated that day by going to a lovely wine tasting dinner that paired great food with some fantastic wines. It was definitely an event that was right up my alley! Speaking of which, this dress is also right up my alley! I say that one can never have too many polka dot themed items, especially when they are priced so reasonably! Leave it to Target to make a great fitting, cute dress at a fantastic price!

Black and white polka dots can be busy but they can also serve as a blank canvas for color, which I love. Here I decided to pair the dress with bright pops of color. These pink pom pom shoes from Anthropologie are now on sale! I originally bought them in a cobalt blue color with multi-colored pom poms and I adored them so much that I went and purchased the pink as well! They are not only really cute, but very comfortable with just small kitten heels. They are perfect for work due to the low heels but also fine for a night out drinking wine!

Watermelons and Seersucker

We just got back from a week long trip to the South, which included visiting Charleston, Savannah, and Hilton Head. The trip was fantastic, with the exception of the humid weather, but this wasn't our first visit to this region of the country so we knew what we were getting into regarding the weather! These photos of me in my seersucker watermelon dress are the first of a few different outfits that I'll be sharing on the blog from our vacation. Because this dress is now on sale and selling out fast at Talbots, I figured I'd better post it ASAP!

I wore this dress out to dinner one night in Charleston. To me, the preppy vibe of the seersucker makes it the perfect thing to wear in the South. In fact, the waitress at our restaurant liked it and the way I matched my lipstick to the watermelons! It definitely looked like the type of dress that one might find in one of the preppy Southern boutiques that are all over King Street in Charleston.

The building where we took these pictures is a hotel called the Mills House, located in the downtown area of Charleston. Although we didn't stay there, I've always admired its light pink facade and the large ornate windows that adorn the buildings from all sides. I thought it would be the perfect Southern backdrop for my perfect Southern dress!

Hello Summer!

Nothing says summer quite like a cotton striped dress, a white pair of sneakers and a straw bag! I particularly love this yellow striped dress from H&M because it's light weight, which makes it cool and comfy to wear all summer long. I would also imagine that it could double as a cover-up over a swimsuit, so it's very versatile! Also, did I mention that it's under $20? It's definitely a win win for summer!

Speaking of going swimming, this straw tote, which I found at Marshalls, would also be great for a day spent at the pool or beach. I actually don't go swimming be it in the ocean or in a pool that often, if at all. (I know, I totally get the irony being that I live in Los Angeles!) If I did, this would probably be the type of outfit that I might wear. Since my wardrobe is summer and beach ready, maybe this will be the impetus to get me out for either a dip in the pool or a walk along a sandy beach sometime soon!

Going Bananas

Last week felt a little "bananas" because it was my final week of school before the commencement of summer vacation.  For anyone who is a teacher you can understand that it's a very hectic time! Now I can take a deep breath and be thankful that the year is behind me and I have a couple of months to do a little traveling, explore my own backyard of Los Angeles, and maybe just kick my feet up and relax!

This banana skirt from Anthropologie is something that I purchased last month on clearance at Anthropologie. Although it is mostly sold out at this point, there are plenty of other cute banana skirt options and dresses to choose from. I'm actually not a big fan of eating bananas, but I'll occasionally have one for a little boost of energy in the morning. While eating bananas might not be my preferred breakfast of choice, I'll take them any day as a print on my skirt! Here are some other adorable banana options to choose from if you feel the same way!
