Menswear Inspired Valentine's Day Look

While today is Galentine's Day, I am featuring a Valentine's Day themed look that is inspired by menswear! I love how these heart chinos are a fun twist on a classic! To keep with the menswear theme, I am pairing the chinos with a striped button down shirt. What makes this shirt unique, yet feminine are the red and pink stripes. Red and pink just might be my favorite color combo for not just Valentine's Day but all year round!

While the chinos and button down are very menswear inspired, I had to add some accessories to give the look a feminine touch. To play on the colors in the outfit, I accessorized with red heels and a matching red crossbody bag. The finishing touch for the look is a pink belt to pull all the colors together. Last, but not least, my heart sunglasses play off of the heart print in the pants!

Flowers for Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! While Valentine's Day isn't necessarily my favorite holiday to celebrate, it is my favorite holiday to dress for, which you could probably tell from my recent posts. (Hearts, pink, red...what's not to love?) Well, love is in the air this weekend and I couldn't think of a more perfect dress to wear to celebrate than this heart dress from Mulberry and Grand because of the cute heart print in red and pink. While there are a lot of cool places for Valentine's Day photos in the Los Angeles area (I even did an entire post on heart walls a couple of years ago!), I love this mural that is located on the side of a parking garage in the city of Anaheim. It combines both love and flowers in one epic mural that is full of color!

Yesterday, my husband and I were at the supermarket getting some last minute essentials for Valentine's Day dinner I am going to fix today and he asked me if I wanted flowers. While I love flowers on murals, I'm not the biggest fan of getting flowers as a gift. Sure, they're pretty, but they usually die after a short period of time and sometimes leave a mess. I told my husband to forget the flowers and just keep taking me to floral murals and I would be happy! Well, he bought me some flowers anyway and took me to this flower wall, so I guess I am a pretty lucky lady!

Heart to Heart

It usually takes me a little while to let go of Christmas and move on to the next holiday but I think I'm finally getting a little excited about Valentine's Day, which is now just about a month away. In preparation for Valentine's Day, I am getting out all of my heart themed items and also adding some new heart items to my to my collection. My newest addition is this heart blouse from Talbots. This heart top came out a few months ago but is now pretty deeply discounted, which is why I snagged it off of the shelf in my size when I went to the mall a couple weeks ago. I guess you could say that it stole my heart!

Because this shirt features hearts in mainly primary colors, I decided to play on these colors with my styling, which includes this yellow pleated skirt. While this skirt is one that I bought several years ago at Target, you can find an almost identical one at both J. Crew Factory and Boden. I actually have this skirt in a few different colors and I love them all because they are so easy to style and they go with everything! I also added some heart accessories to the outfit, such as my heart earrings and sunglasses. After all, one heart is never enough! I purchased these heart sunglasses for Valentine's Day last year and I thought I would wear them in only in February but, as it turns out, heart sunglasses can be worn all year long! Now that I think about it, there's no reason that hearts need to be relegated to just Valentine's Day!

Getting Carried Away on Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! I know that some people, even those in relationships, have mixed feelings about celebrating the holiday but, in my opinion, it's fun to get at least a little carried away with it! While my husband and I usually don't make a big deal out of the day, we always do something to celebrate, such as having a special dinner together and getting one another gifts. I also like to celebrate by dressing up in hearts, the color red, or anything that fits the Valentine's Day theme! This outfit with my red lace skirt and grey bejeweled sweater would make for a perfect outfit to celebrate the occasion, even though, technically, I wore it last week. The red of the skirt and, of course, my heart bag and heart sunglasses are all a nod to Valentine's Day without being too over the top, which is the perfect balance, in my opinion!

Speaking of things that are over the top, I had the "brilliant" idea to jump on the blogger bandwagon and get some heart balloons for this particular shoot. While I don't usually use props in my photos and while I realize that it's a bit of a cliche, I still thought it would be cute to try. What I didn't take into account was that it was a bit windy on the day I decided to do this, so it was really hard to get the balloons to behave. The balloons and my hair were both flying around all over the place, which made for some pretty bad pictures! Luckily, my photographer husband was very patient and made sure I got some great shots, which is why I love him so much! Well, there are a lot of reasons why I love him but anyone who puts up with my crazy ideas like he does is definitely my perfect Valentine!

Pale Pink Jeans and Heart Earrings

I'm continuing with this week's theme of Valentine's Day and hearts with a pair of pink boyfriend jeans and a super soft striped tissue turtleneck tee. While the outfit doesn't exactly scream "Valentine's Day," standing in front of a heart wall and wearing a pair of heart earrings definitely helps! I really love these heart earrings from Zenzii, which come in a variety of colors. As I have stated before, hearts are something that I enjoy wearing all the time, so these earrings will be getting a lot of use from me, not just in the month of February but for many months to come! Also, my readers can save 25% off of these earrings, plus your entire order from Zenzii with code Katie25 at checkout.

A couple years ago I did an entire post about where to find the best heart walls in Los Angeles and this one, located in Eagle Rock, California definitely made the list! Believe it or not, here around Valentine's Day, some of these heart walls can get pretty crowded with people! One of the reasons why I love this particular mural is because it's a little off of the beaten path and not known to that many people. I guess it's my little secret! So, if you're in the Eagle Rock area, definitely seek it out for cute and colorful heart pics!

The Hearts are Coming!

Valentine's Day is Friday, so it's going to be a week filled with wearing everything pink, red, and, of course, anything covered in hearts! I personally think hearts are fun anytime of the year but they're especially fun to wear in celebration of Valentine's Day! This heart skirt is my go to skirt for the occasion. While I purchased it several years ago, you can still find it on eBay, which is a great place to snag any J. Crew pieces that you missed out on. (I do that all the time!) While the skirt is old, this jeweled button sweater is a new purchase. While I already have a ton of black sweaters, I couldn't resist the sparkly buttons on the shoulders of this particular sweater. It comes in a variety of colors and is now deeply discounted, so it's hard to resist!

I love this graphic black and white mural and thought it would be the perfect backdrop for my pre-Valentine's Day ensemble! There's something about the mural and the curvature of the lines that is reminiscent of the thorns on the rose, so I guess, in that respect, it's also fitting with the Valentine's theme of this outfit. This week I will be posting a couple more Valentine's Day themed looks, so stay tuned!

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I am wearing everything I can that relates to it! First and foremost is my heart skirt. Originally, I was tempted to buy this almost identical J. Crew heart skirt but I realized that I already had a similar one hanging up in my closet! Second is this adorable button down that spells out "Love" because hearts and love, obviously, go hand in hand! Last, but not least, are my cute heart shaped sunglasses. This pair was under $10 and are quite reminiscent of a more expensive version that you may have seen on some blogs. Normally, I'm not opposed to spending money on sunglasses (I wear them a lot!) but for trendy ones like these, I'm fine with opting for the knock off version.

So while I'm going all out with this Valentine's Day look, one thing is for sure: my husband and I won't be going out for Valentine's Day Evening! This is perfectly fine with me because I would rather stay in than go out for dinner and deal with crowds! In fact, there's nothing better than a romantic home cooked meal on Valentine's Day, even if I'm the one cooking. Last year, we tried to order takeout and that proved to be a disaster that involved both my husband and me standing in line and waiting for our food with a bunch of other angry, disgruntled customers for over an hour. This experience only confirmed my instinct that it's best to stay in on holidays! So, no matter what you're doing on Valentine's Day, even if you're spending it alone, I hope you enjoy it and have a delicious dinner, be it dinning in, taking out, or eating at a fancy restaurant.
