Pretty as a Portrait

I've purchased three things over the last couple weeks from J. Crew that feature their prints from Drake's. This popover shirt in horseback rider floral was my latest Drake's for J. Crew acquisition. While the prices of the items from J. Crew's collaboration with Drake's are a little steep, if you can score them on sale, like I did with this blouse, they're not too bad. Also, I knew my husband would like this print because it looks like it's a medieval tapestry. I was indeed right about this, as my husband instantly took note of it and commented on how much he liked it! My husband's approval also helps to smooth over high prices with him!

I wore this outfit to a play last weekend. I suppose it was somewhat fitting that the play was about Sherlock Holmes because, as we all know, most of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about Holmes are set in Baker Street in London and Drake's is actually a haberdashery located, where else, but on Haberdasher Street in London! So while I was not in a deerstalker cap (some people in the audience were!) and tweed coat smoking a pipe, my outfit at least paid homage to the London setting of Sherlock Holmes in my own stylish way!

Last of all, I was so lucky that I came across this gorgeous wall of tiny yellow flowers! It just happened to match the brightness of the print and my very loud yellow pants perfectly! In fact, some even compared the photos when I shared them on Instagram to the paintings of Kehinde Wiley who is now most notable for painting the official portrait of former President Obama with all of the flowers that is now hanging in the National Portrait Gallery. While that wasn't exactly what I was going for, I can definitely see the similarities! Now all I need is to find an artist to have my portrait painted! Perhaps if I become president I can make that a reality!

  1. Oh I love this print! The floral is so pretty in the background and I'm glad you did a closeup on this shirt because I didn't even see the horses and riders. The yellow is gorgeous too!

  3. I love that as long as your husband likes a piece he doesn't question the price - it's a good approach, haha! I'm also over the moon for this flowering wall of shrubbery. It's so delightful.

  5. What a fun top! You know I love this bright color combination. The bit of leopard was a brilliant choice to ground it all just a tad. Gorgeous florla background, too. Thanks for linking up, Katie!
