Fresh Cut Grass

I am always game for anything that involves wine. When my husband and I were gifted complimentary wine tasting tickets in Temecula, we certainly weren't going to let them go to waste. Temecula, for those of you who don't know, is located in Riverside County and isn't too far from San Diego. For Angelenos such as myself, with no traffic it's only an hour or so drive away. I like to think of Paso Robles as a closer version of Napa for people coming from Los Angeles, but Temecula is even closer.

One of the problems I have with wine tasting, and tasting food in general, is that I have a poor sense of smell, which equates to a very diminished palate. I do the whole ritual of taking a whiff of my wine before tasting, but honestly it does nothing for me; it's just a formality to look like I know what I'm doing! Then when I read the descriptions of the wine I am always perplexed by the comparisons that are made. For example, one wine I tasted in Temecula said it was supposed to have notes of fresh cut grass. Another was supposed to taste like worn leather. Aside from not knowing what these things smell like (let alone taste like), I always find these descriptions to be humorous. What's next, "this wine has notes of old, sweaty socks"? Well, suffice it to say, I will not be applying to become a master sommelier anytime soon!

  3. Love this look on you Katie especially the touch of the thin leopard print belt around the waist. And that shade of green is just so summery and fresh - the perfect choice for visiting a vineyard! I often laugh at some of the descriptions on the labels of wine bottles. We had one the other day that said hints of apricots. Well, if there were, I'd say the apricots weren't so much hints as completely hidden!

    1. I definitely love to add a little leopard where I can for something different. I am glad I am not the only one who has a good laugh at the descriptions for wine! I think last week the New Yorker even published an article about that!
