Stripes Off the Strip

Is it strange that I went to two museums during my trip to Las Vegas? Probably, but I am not much of the partying type, so a nice quiet museum is just my speed. Las Vegas actually has a plethora of hidden treasures, such as the Clark County Museum that chronicles the history of Vegas from prehistoric times to its advent as a gambling mecca to the present day. All it takes is a short trip off the strip and you'll be transported to a place that is all about Vegas, yet seems very "un-Vegas" if you know what I mean.

Is is strange that I am all dressed up to go to a museum? Probably, but my husband and I planned to go straight back to the strip after our stop at the Clark County Museum to do some shopping and then to one of our favorite restaurants at the Bellagio, so I thought it would be convenient to don my party dress, even at the museum. It did garner some looks from some of the patrons, many whom were elderly, and some compliments, both at the museum and during our shopping jaunt back on the strip.

One of my favorite parts of the Clark County Museum, aside from catching a glimpse of the busy "Beard of Knowledge" (aka Mark Hall-Patton) who is the museum's curator and frequent guest expert on the History Channel's hit show Pawn Stars, was the row of historic houses that the museum has moved to their present location and restored. I particularly like this Tudor style house, built in the 1930s and decked out in the decor of the 1950s in its interior. It allowed me to live out my dream of being a 50s housewife (sorry feminists), if just for the picture below!

  2. I am on the lookout for a wide-striped, a-line, b+w dress like your gorgeous Kate Spade one. Love how you styled it. It looks beautiful with the belt and the addition of the lavender cardigan was right. And as always your photos are the bomb, Katie!
