Supermarket Attire

What is the appropriate thing to wear to the supermarket? In Tim Gunn's book, Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making it Work (yes, I read this from cover to cover) he addresses this very dilemma. In the book, Tim Gunn laments the sloppy, disheveled attire that people have come to wear on a daily basis. He states that while one shouldn't have on a suit to run errands, it's nice to look put together and care about your appearance. Inspired by this idea,  I "classed it up" a little to get my ingredients for dinner tonight by throwing on the J. Crew School Boy blazer in linen. I thought it gave my ordinary look of jeans and this T-shirt from Anthropologie a more polished feel.

Upon seeing this outfit my husband, who was wearing sweats to do things around the house at the time, told me I looked too dressed up to get groceries. Well, I just wanted to make Tim Gunn proud. What if I ran into him at my local Trader Joe's? He is a pretty cool guy and I too am nostalgic for the days when people would wear hats to go out, women had gloves on and men always wore suits and ties to work. Actually, I wasn't alive during this time, but I can still yearn back to these "good old days."

  1. I need to start doing this more. I adore this!

How do you like the leather on the Edie bag? I want one but am afraid it will scratch easily.

  2. I think the leather is really good quality, but as you point out, it is prone to scratching. Both of my Edie bags were a little scratched when I bought them. I am really careful with my bags, so they haven't scratched much since. I feel like with the Edie bag the scratches add a little character!
