Mad Hatter

This summer, I have officially become obsessed with hats! I've always had a few hats in my wardrobe but I recently added a couple more to my collection.  One new addition is this orange hat that I got on sale a few weeks ago from Anthropologie. I like that it offers a bright pop of color to any outfit plus some much needed protection from the hot summer sun! (It's both practical and fashionable, which is not something I can say for many things in my wardrobe!) One other thing I really like about this hat is that it's well made, so I know it's something that I will be able to wear for years to come. Below are some other colorful hats that I love for summer!

Despite buying a couple hats, I'm trying to shop my closet this summer. I cleaned out my closet at the beginning of summer and I realized that I should try to get more use out of the things I already own rather than buying more things. This colorful popover dress from J. Crew has been in my closet for a few years and I love the popover style! In fact, I love it so much that I own this style dress in a few different prints! I thought this print was a perfect match with my orange hat against this fun restaurant in L.A. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for lunch when we went to take these pictures but, based on the fun exterior, I definitely want to come back when they are open to dine!

Rainbow Stripes and Sprinkles

Did you ever feel like two items in your wardrobe were just made for each other? Well, that's how I feel about my new rainbow stripe skirt and this sprinkle covered doughnut hat! Rainbow stripes have definitely become a big trend this summer and it's safe to say that I've indulged in almost every item I can find that fits this category! Obviously, the rainbow trend fits my colorful aesthetic so you can understand why I'm obsessed. One thing that I  particularly love about the skirt, besides the pastel rainbow print, is that it's under $20!  Sure, I probably don't need anymore rainbow stripes in my closet but at that price, who can resist?

This sprinkle hat is a couple years old but I found an almost identical one that is just as cute! I don't wear this hat that often but when I do I definitely get a lot of compliments on it! One of these days I'm going to have to plan ahead for national doughnut day and wear it to celebrate. Unfortunately, I always seem to find out about those types of "holidays" when it's too late! In addition to my sprinkle hat, I think these suede Stella bow pumps are another fantastic accessory to complete my rainbow look. When I bought these shoes a few months ago, I thought they were cute but I honestly had no idea that I would wear them as much as I did this summer! For such high heels they are actually quite comfortable!

Perhaps the icing on the cake (or the sprinkles on the doughnut!) to my rainbow outfit is this adorable bar necklace that I recently purchased at Target. Believe it or not, it was only $6! I like how this piece is relatively simple and delicate, which is a nice contrast to some of the bigger statement pieces of jewelry that I own. It will definitely go with all sorts of colorful things in my wardrobe or, as you can see here, just a plain white tee. Now that my rainbow outfit is complete with a colorful hat, shoes, and necklace, I feel like the only thing missing is a unicorn to ride off on into the sunset!

Summer Fridays

During summer vacation, the meaning behind specific days ceases to exist. For example, Monday is just an ordinary day as opposed to something to dread and there's nothing that makes Friday any more exciting than any other day of the week.  All the days are not only pretty much the same but you also sometimes forget about what day it is altogether! Well, now that I'm back to work and back at school, the days all of a sudden matter again, especially Friday! I'm really looking forward to my weekend! I can't think of anything better to wear to celebrate Friday than this Summer Fridays tee from J. Crew. I got it in the mail last week and I'm trying to get as much use out of it as I can before it's no longer officially summer!

I was surprised by how many things in my wardrobe go with this reddish, rust color tee! Since I am trying to shop my closet, I pulled out this colorful skirt, also from J. Crew (surprise, surprise!), as the perfect complement to my tee. I haven't worn the skirt in a while, so I'm happy that this tee was the impetus for me to rediscover it once again! I like how the outfit has summer in the message of the tee and yet the colors overall are hinting at fall hues, thus making it not only the perfect Friday outfit, but also the perfect outfit to transition between summer and fall too!

Return to Rainbow Row

Last month we went to Charleston, South Carolina, but I am only just now getting around to posting some of the pictures from our vacation! Despite being a relatively small city, Charleston has a lot to offer and there's definitely a wealth of things to see and do. In fact, we've visited Charleston twice in the last few years and I still don't feel like I've done everything I want to do there! Taking a stroll down the historic street of homes known as Rainbow Row is something we did on both trips. Of all of the gorgeous houses in the city, this street of houses is probably my favorite, obviously because of how colorful they are!

It was very hot and humid in Charleston during our visit, (my understanding is that the city is in a perpetual haze of humidity all year long!) so it was important to find a way to stay cool, but still look cute at the same time! These seersucker shorts from J. Crew Factory were just the perfect thing to wear to stay cool, but also look fashionable. (Luckily, we took these photos somewhat early on our day-long excursion walking around the city before we both became drenched in sweat!) I have a few pairs of seersucker shorts, but none with ruffles, so that detail made these shorts extra special. On a negative note, I will say that even though wearing shorts kept me cool, it also exposed me to bugs and believe me I had bug bites aplenty!

During this stroll down the lovely Rainbow Row they were doing construction on one of the houses. I overheard one of the construction workers say "if I had a dollar for every picture taken on this street I would be a millionaire!" That comment made me laugh and we would have certainly helped contribute to said construction worker's fortune if that was actually the case! For good reasons, Rainbow Row seems to have become a "hot" destination for bloggers or just people looking for a cute photo to post of their travels. My dream would be to one day own one of these gorgeous houses and then I would just have to walk out my front door for a colorful background!

Donut You Love This Hat?

First, I would like to give a big shout out to the nice people working at the Long Beach Big Five Sporting Goods store for making this post possible! You see, I had to do an outfit change in order to do this post, but this area had no public restrooms whatsoever. I went in to Big Five and looked sad like I really needed to go to the bathroom and they gladly let me use the employee restroom. They probably thought it was weird when I came out in a different outfit but maybe no one noticed! Also, I give props to my husband for not only holding my hat while I was inside, but for wearing it. He texted me this when I was in the restroom: "When you come outside, I'll be the man on the corner across from Chuck E. Cheese's wearing the pink woman's donut hat!" Sure enough, when I went outside he was indeed there wearing the hat!

So, speaking of hats, I absolutely love this hat from Charming Charlie. Unfortunately, it is now sold out but they do have a similar one with confetti that is equally adorable. The rainbow colored sprinkles on its brim add a colorful pop to any ensemble, plus I'll definitely be wearing it on National Donut Day. (It also looked great with what my husband was wearing too!) Another thing that I love is this new wall that just went up a few months ago in Long Beach. Move over West Hollywood, Long Beach is now becoming the epicenter for amazing, colorful walls!
