Pink and Green

One of my favorite color combos is pink and green! While it might be a color pairing that is more traditionally associated with spring, I think it can work anytime of year, especially if you're a color lover such as myself! So, when I got this green and white cherry blossom print top from J. Crew a couple weeks ago, I immediately thought of pairing it with pink to really make the colors pop. As you can see, I opted for a pair of pink pants and a pair of bright green suede pumps when styling the top for the first time.

As I mentioned before, pink and green often conjures up images of spring in people's minds. Here, in Southern California, some of the leaves are finally starting to turn brown and the weather is cooling off a little but there are still flowers everywhere, especially bougainvilleas! I love bougainvilleas and the one featured in today's post, which is located in a shopping center, is one of my favorites! I'm always checking in to see if it's in bloom with these vibrant pink flowers so that I can take photos in this location!

Daisy Sweater Vest

When I saw this pink daisy sweater vest, it just screamed the 90s to me! My husband, on the other hand, thought it looked more like something out of the 80s. Whatever decade it's from, it's retro, it's cute, it's pink, and it has daisies, so I'm a fan! I noticed that sweater vests are everywhere for fall this year. While this is not normally a trend that I would jump on board with, as I said before, the cute color and print of this particular vest is what I was drawn to. I paired this sweater vest with a white button down with a bow to give the vest a little bit of a preppy look but, in the future, I could see pairing the vest with just a plain white tee. It will definitely be a fun piece for layering this fall and winter!

I wore this outfit for a trip down to beach and a sunset boat ride. While the outfit isn't really nautical, it was much cooler by the beach (perfect sweater vest weather!) and I was looking for an opportunity to photograph the outfit for my blog; I decided to forgo a more appropriate nautical theme for these reasons. Originally, I was going to photograph this outfit at a mural in this shopping center in Long Beach but the mural turned out to not be what I thought it would. Luckily, I founds this store called Johnny Was, which I have never heard of, but I was pleasantly surprised that they had a storefront with a floral motif that would work for my photos. Sometimes things just work out even if they are not planned!

Party Skirt

The colorful dot print and the layered tiers of this skirt from Milly just screams "Party!", in my opinion! Milly is a new brand for me and, to be honest, I don't know how I came across this particular skirt. (It might have been an ad on Facebook, which seems to know my shopping habits and tastes a little too well, if you know what I mean!) Still, I fell in love with it immediately! While we were taking these pictures, the gentle breeze that we had on this particular day kept lifting up the layers of this skirt. While this was a bit of a nuisance and while these tiers of fabric might not be the most practical thing, it does make the skirt very fun and playful!

I wanted to play up the color of this skirt by adding a tee shirt that was a similar color to the dominant color found in the skirt. I thought this citron color tee that I just recently purchased was a perfect match! Because it is now officially fall and it's time to wear more muted colors, I could also see pairing this skirt with a brown or maroon sweater to make it more subdued. However, since this is such a fun, playful skirt, it would be difficult tone it down too much, which is something I would never want to do!

Preppy with a Twist!

I like dressing a little preppy, especially as we approach the fall and winter months. Even if I am dressed on the preppy side, I do like to add my own stamp on an outfit or find items that nod to preppy styles but with a twist. While I don't think I would have automatically viewed these red and pink plaid pants as preppy, they are called "preppy wide leg pants" on the Anthropologie website. Now that I look at them, they do sort of look like they could be some very funky preppy golf pants from the 70s! Obviously, I added my own twist to these "preppy" plaid pants by pairing them with a pair of pom pom mules and red heart sunglasses.

I wore these pants for a sponsored Instagram post that I shot this weekend.  After wearing the pants around for a while, I decided that I liked them so much that, when I came home, I ordered them in the purple and orange combo that they also come in! The fact that they are currently on sale made them even more appealing! Also, Halloween is right around the corner so the purple and orange color palette will be perfect for the occasion! I think the version I'm wearing here in pink and red will be perfect for Valentine's Day this year! I guess I have a lot of my holiday outfits covered with these two pair of pants!

Making Waves

I love any print that has a little bit of artistic flair to it! Anything that looks like paint strokes or splotches done by an artist is right up my alley! So, while I was glancing through the recent new markdowns at Anthropologie, I was excited to stumble on this cute pintucked blouse with a fun artistic print. Because the price was right, I decided to get the top. When it arrived in the mail, I was super happy with my purchase! This is a piece that could be worn alone, as I'm doing here with just a pair of colorful pants, or layered with a cardigan when the cooler weather finally arrives in California!

Speaking of art, I was also pleasantly surprised that there was a new art piece at the Lab Anti Mall in Costa Mesa. Because I didn't know it existed until I arrived, I actually wasn't planing on using this mural as a backdrop for these photos but, when I saw it, I immediately ditched the other location that I had in mind. I thought the wavy lines used to depict the mountains was a good match for the colorful wavy lines in my top. I love it when an outfit and art can come together!

Sunflowers and Daisies

This weekend, we went to a sunflower field in Orange County. I actually spotted the field of bright, majestic flowers last weekend as we were driving on an overpass in Costa Mesa and, after doing some research, I realized that it was open to the public and that this weekend was the last weekend to visit. Upon visiting the field of sunflowers I realized why it was the last weekend to visit, as about 85% of the sunflowers were brown and dead. (It is the end of summer, after all, and it's also been over 100 degrees for weeks now!) Luckily, there were still some pretty patches of flowers to gawk at and and take pictures by. Unfortunately, I don't really have any sunflower print clothing (shocking, right?) but I did just recently get this daisy dress that I thought would be fun to wear on this outing! Below, you will find some other fun daisy print items that you can shop for as you plan your own jaunt through a flower field or wear for any occasion!

As I mentioned in this post already, it was quite hot this weekend, although I think I've been mentioning that in just about all of my posts lately because it's really putting a damper on getting in the spirit of fall! It was also pretty dirty and dusty in the field and there were a lot of bugs. In fact, my husband got several worms on him during this experience! So, while I might have a daisy dress on in these photos, with the sweat, dust and bugs, I wasn't' exactly feeling as fresh as a daisy afterwards, if you know what I mean!

Forever Flamingo

I'm a fan of anything flamingo and will flock to anything featuring these fun pink birds! As you can imagine, when I found this flamingo print blouse I had to add it to my wardrobe! My husband, upon seeing it for the first time, immediately let me know that he didn't like the blouse. I guess he's not as big of a fan of flamingos as I am but, because he's not the one wearing the shirt (thank goodness!), I didn't really care about his opinion. Besides, when he told me his feelings about the blouse, I had already taken the tags off and it was too late to return! While this top would look amazing with jeans or black pants, I decided that because it's still technically summer, I would pair the blouse with some mint pants and a pink bag so as to have some fun with color!

It's hard to believe, but these pictures were taken on a day that was well over 100 degrees! Prior to this, the air conditioning broke in my classroom and it was 90 degrees inside! Given all of these circumstances, I did think twice about doing this photo shoot after work because I didn't exactly feel like my freshest self, but I'm glad that I decided to go through with it! I was especially delighted that I found some pink roses still hanging on, despite the fact that it's almost fall. I thought the pink in the roses complemented the pink of the flamingos quite nicely. Even my husband agreed on that point!
