Sequins and Camo

I'm a big fan of unexpected combos and pattern mixing, as you can see with this look that combines sequins, stripes, camo and a little bit of leopard! I purchased this sequin floral cardigan last month when it was on sale at J. Crew and for spring this year, it's being offered in two different colors that are prefect for transitioning your winter wardrobe into the next season. Since I love this particular cardigan so much (who doesn't love sequins?), I am very tempted to buy it in at least one or two more colors! I tend to get a lot of wear out of cardigans because they are the perfect item to just throw on for a little added warmth and layering.

It was a little bit cool and overcast today so I layered a striped tissue turtleneck tee under my sequin cardigan for some added warmth. I always love these types of tees for layering because they are so light and comfortable. Last of all, I thought these camo pants would add an unexpected twist to the look. To be honest, I never really cared much for camo in the past, but last year I sprung for these camo pants from Old Navy for something different. They are not something that I wear a lot but, since I've been wearing a lot of pants lately due to the cool weather, they have made it into the rotation of pants that I wear on a more regular basis. Sometimes it's nice to try something different for a change!

Three Cheers for Pom Poms!

If you put pom poms on a sweater, there's a good chance that I'll buy it! If they are colorful pom poms then I will most definitely buy it! So, when I happened on this grey, multi-colored pom pom sweater, I was smitten but I was also thrilled that the sweater was under $20! I actually have a similar sweater that I bought a couple years ago but this one was such a great deal that I couldn't resist!

Since pom poms just scream "fun!", I wanted to build up that aspect of the sweater in my styling of it.  Last weekend, I picked up these silver glitter sneakers on clearance and I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear them. My husband saw them and said something to the effect of, "at exactly what age are you too old to wear sneakers with glitter on them?" My answer to that was that you're never too old to wear glitter, especially glittery footwear! While I have a number of pairs of dress shoes with glitter, I like the idea of a pair of sparkly, casual sneakers doused in glitter!

Last of all, to build up the fun and playful aspect of this look, I am back at one of my favorite walls! Last weekend my husband and I went to the Saved by the Bell "pop up" restaurant called Saved by the Max and this wall always reminds me of the graphics that are used in the credits of the series. This wall kind of has that late 80s to early 90s vibe to it, which not only makes it a fun backdrop but also adds a little nostalgia!

Keeping Warm

Last week, the craziest thing happened here in Los Angeles...it snowed! Yes, it was so cold here that in some areas, like Pasadena, there was actually some light snow! Luckily, I recently stocked up on some cold weather essentials that were on clearance at J. Crew, such as this striped cashmere sweater and this yellow coat. When it comes to purchasing items for cold weather like sweaters and heavy jackets, I always pause because I know I won't get a lot of use out of them but this time it paid off, as I've really been bundling up all month long!

I think it's safe to say that a cashmere sweater, colorful slacks and a heavy coat has officially become my work wardrobe as of late! I should also mention that I originally bought this coat in green first and because I loved it so much, I purchased this yellow one shorty after! I've gotten a lot of use out of both coats and both were on sale as well, so between the price and my frequent usage, the cost per wear is fairly low! I should note, though, that warmer weather is in the forecast for this week, so these coats might be going back into dust bags and back into the closet shortly. Still, I really did enjoy wearing my new coats while the cold weather lasted!

Perfect Pink Blouse

Valentine's Day now seems like a distant memory, even though it was only a week ago! Regardless, even after the holiday, I'm still big on wearing romantic colors like pink and red because, in my opinion, those colors are always in style! Also, with spring just around the corner, it's nice to start breaking out softer pastels and colors. Speaking of color, this pink bow top is the perfect addition to the wardrobe of anyone who loves pink like I do! The icing on the cake is the lovely bow at the collar of the blouse that adds a chic, classic and, dare I say, "secretary vibe" to any look!

This top truly goes with just about everything, but I thought it would look great with one of my favorite skirts, which is this rainbow sequin skirt that I bought last year at Anthropologie. I don't wear this skirt very often, but when I do, it always receives a ton of compliments! It's very eye catching and shimmers wherever one goes!  It should also be noted that it was very windy the day these photos were taken, although I tried to pick photos in which my hair wasn't blowing all over the place! During these types of situations, my husband always jokes that I would have to pay a lot of money for a person with a fan to stand there to achieve a windswept look!

All the Shapes

I love all sorts of patterns but one of my favorite patterns is definitely polka dots! Polka dots are fun and whimsical, yet simultaneously classic and seem to go with just about everything. Due to my immense love of the polka dot print, I was instantly drawn to this polka dot midi length skirt from ChicWish. Obviously, I love its classic polka dot print but I also adore the fabric, as it's a nice, thick, felt-like material that makes the skirt perfect for the cool winter days we have been having here lately!

I thought the perfect backdrop for my polka dot skirt was this colorful shape wall! I like the interplay between the polka dots on the skirt and the more geometric shapes featured on the wall. Believe it or not, these pictures were taken about two minutes before sunset and it was really dark! We went to a play before going to dinner and the play ended a bit later than I had anticipated. I didn't think we would make it in time to this location for the photos but it worked out just perfectly! I guess some things are just meant to be!

My New Rainbow Kicks

Sometimes it just feels like a pair of shoes was made for you and that's what I thought the minute I saw these adorable rainbow flats! It's like the essence of Hello Katie Girl, distilled into a pair of shoes! I ordered these shoes a few weeks ago and I have been anxiously waiting for a sunny day to take them out for a stroll, as it's practically been raining non-stop here in Los Angeles for over a month! Luckily, yesterday proved to be a sunny, albeit a cool day, so it was the perfect occasion to debut my new kicks!

I had to find just the right thing to wear with these colorful flats! Obviously, they go with just about anything but, at the same time, they are quite bold and, therefore, beg to be the star of the outfit. This Kate Spade pom pom sweater with a pink blazer turned out to be just the thing to wear with my new shoes! In fact, the outfit was such a hit that, as these photos were being taken, a woman in a passing car yelled a compliment at me!

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I am wearing everything I can that relates to it! First and foremost is my heart skirt. Originally, I was tempted to buy this almost identical J. Crew heart skirt but I realized that I already had a similar one hanging up in my closet! Second is this adorable button down that spells out "Love" because hearts and love, obviously, go hand in hand! Last, but not least, are my cute heart shaped sunglasses. This pair was under $10 and are quite reminiscent of a more expensive version that you may have seen on some blogs. Normally, I'm not opposed to spending money on sunglasses (I wear them a lot!) but for trendy ones like these, I'm fine with opting for the knock off version.

So while I'm going all out with this Valentine's Day look, one thing is for sure: my husband and I won't be going out for Valentine's Day Evening! This is perfectly fine with me because I would rather stay in than go out for dinner and deal with crowds! In fact, there's nothing better than a romantic home cooked meal on Valentine's Day, even if I'm the one cooking. Last year, we tried to order takeout and that proved to be a disaster that involved both my husband and me standing in line and waiting for our food with a bunch of other angry, disgruntled customers for over an hour. This experience only confirmed my instinct that it's best to stay in on holidays! So, no matter what you're doing on Valentine's Day, even if you're spending it alone, I hope you enjoy it and have a delicious dinner, be it dinning in, taking out, or eating at a fancy restaurant.
