Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

I think it's quite fitting that these photos were taken outside of a thrift store called Out of the Closet because in today's post, I'm stepping out of my comfort zone in several different ways. The first is regarding how I am wearing this chambray button-down. Originally, I had it tucked into these new rainbow striped pants and I don't know why but I just didn't love the look. Since it seems to be a trend to knot your shirt, I decided at the last minute to try that. Unfortunately, the knot came undone in the car and I had to redo it but this time sans mirror. The end result is that it ended up being knotted much higher up than I originally had it before I left the house, thus showing more skin than I had intended. Oops! Well, it's maybe not as much skin as Britney Spears displays, but it's definitely something new for me!

The other new thing that's pushing me out of my comfort zone today are my Stella bow heels. I used to never wear high heeled shoes. I gradually worked my way up to wearing two-inch heels, which I deemed to be my ideal heel comfort zone. After that, I tried three-inch heels and was able to walk comfortably in them, although since I'm 5'10", being in heels always made me feel self conscious because I felt like I was towering over most other people. This year, J. Crew came out with several pairs of shoes, such as these, with four-inch heels. I could have just said no and not bought the shoes but they were all so cute that I figured I would learn to walk in them no matter what. As it turns out, these shoes, heels and all, are more comfortable than I would have thought! Would I walk miles in them? Definitely not, but for some light walking around town they are not too bad.

My last out of my comfort zone reflection is shopping at a new store. I know that I tend to shop at the same handful of places for most of my clothing. I don't personally think there is anything wrong with this but it is nice to try something new for a change. I recently discovered that New York and Co. has some really colorful things for spring that were right up my alley so I bought these striped pants, the pencil skirt version of the print, and a dress just to try out the brand. I was very happy with my purchases, as they seemed to fit my aesthetic perfectly! So I guess, for the most part, the three new things I tried out worked out okay!
