It's almost Easter and that means lots of bunnies! I have a confession: I am crazy about bunnies. Maybe not quite to the extent that Lennie from Of Mice and Men is "nuts" about rabbits, but the obsession is definitely real. You can probably see this from my choice of bunny themed footwear below. I have a lot of crazy, kitschy footwear, but these bunny loafers from Minna Parikka are probably my favorites.
If you care to know where my obsession with bunnies began, it all started the summer before I moved to Manhattan for graduate school. I was in a family owned pet store in Pittsburgh and I spied the most beautiful grey and white lop ear rabbit that I have ever seen. When I inquired about her, I found out that she was adopted months ago from the pet store, but the girl who adopted her developed an allergy to rabbits and returned her to the store in the hopes she would find another loving home. Well, I turned out to be that home. Sophie came home with me and then moved into my apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. When I traveled, she came with me on the plane, subway and on trains back home for holidays. When I moved to Los Angeles, she obviously came with me and was even a "bunny of honor" at my wedding. (Yes, I am one of those people who has pets at their wedding!)
Sophie lived to be about 8 years old, which I suppose is old for bunnies. Even though she is no longer with me, I still have the fondest of memories of her and collect bunny themed items wherever I go. I would love to get another bunny, but unfortunately I think that would be difficult with our dog, William. So for now, I am just happy to have bunnies on my feet and her memories in my heart.
If you love bunnies too, or just think they are super cute, because, of course, they are adorable, here are some of my favorite bunny items for spring. I am definitely contemplating getting the sneaker versions of my loafers!
