Game Day "Nevermore"

Well, another Super Bowl Sunday has come and gone. While watching the Super Bowl does not feature prominently on my list of priorities, this year my husband and I had some family over to celebrate this annual ritual of watching the game. I actually picked the winning team, but my reasoning for picking the Baltimore Ravens was specious at best. You see the Ravens were actually named after Edgar Allan Poe's famous poem "The Raven" due to the fact that Poe was once a resident of Baltimore and published "The Raven" while living in the city. Due to the literary legacy of the name of the Ravens I decided they were the team to root for. A few days ago I didn't even know who or what was playing in the Super Bowl, so as you can see my prediction was clearly not based on anything remotely credible!

I decided to make chili for a Super Bowl feast. I am not a huge chili fan, although I do love the chili cheese fries at Der Wienerschnitzel. This recipe comes from a website I found called MomsWhoThink. com (I guess as opposed to moms who don't think?) and they claim it won $20,000 in some chili contest. The link for the recipe can be found here and it is quite good. Its secret seems to be a hint of coco powder and just the right combination of spices and seasoning. Aside from seasoning the recipe calls for ground beef, pork, onions, garlic and tomatoes and is therefore fairly simple. To jazz it up a bit,  I put out toppings including green onions, cheddar cheese and Fritos.  I also made cast iron skillet cornbread from scratch as an accompaniment to the chili.

On a random note, I added a picture of my new Target piggy measuring cups with chopped onion and garlic. I don't know how accurate they are but they sure are cute!
