Pastel Perfect in DTLA

Last weekend was my birthday and I was elated that this year it fell on a weekend instead of on a weekday. It's been a while since that happened! Often, my husband plans something special to surprise me with, but this year he left the planning up to me. When he asked me what I wanted to do to celebrate, I decided to pick something that he would normally complain about, reasoning that if it was my birthday, he would be forced to grin and bear it. That's when I came up with what I am just going to refer to as a "hipster themed" birthday in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, which included gazing at some of the murals, eating at a "cool" German-style beer hall, and doing some gallery hopping. (Stay tuned because I am going to try to post more pictures detailing the adventure this weekend on my blog at a later date!)

I actually didn't know precisely what I would find in the Arts District, but I did know in advance that I wanted to visit the Kim West mural on the side of the Hauser and Wirth gallery. It's a huge mural in West's signature sort of drip style technique featuring strange, mythical beasts. I thought my shirt featuring J. Crew's Ratti "Into the Wild" print would be just perfect. What I didn't plan on was that most of the space in front of the mural serves as parking for gallery staff, which limited my options for what I could stand in front of. Luckily, this pretty aqua and pastel blue section of the mural, which actually happened to match my new jeans perfectly, was completely open. The birthday gods were smiling upon me after all!
