Rum Raisin

In case you are wondering, this post is called "Rum Raisin" simply because the color of this sweater is "Oatmeal Raisin", but in my mind I keep thinking it's "Rum Raisin". There are probably two reasons for this: first, rum is way better than oatmeal (I mean, come on!) and second one of my favorite TV shows from last year, Wayward Pines featured a sheriff that was obsessed with rum raisin ice cream. My mind works in some strange ways as you can clearly see!

A couple of weeks ago I placed a rather large order at J. Crew because of their unbelievable extra 50% off winter clearance items. I mostly picked up sweaters that ended up all being around $20-$30 a piece, including this sequined fair isle sweater. Unfortunately for me, J. Crew now seems to be sending each item from your order in its own separate package. (I suppose because they are shipped from different locations.) So last Wednesday I had five packages at my door awaiting me when I got home for work. This was enough to give my husband a mild heart attack!

I'm not sure where I read this, but prior to Christmas I read an article saying that retailers were heavily discounting sweaters and coats because of the mild winter this season. Even though some fairly sizable storms have hit the east coast, it seems like these winter items are still being deeply discounted, because, despite the frigid temps and blizzards, retailers are still plowing through the season and making way for spring styles. Here in Los Angles, it's obviously much more mild weather wise than back east and I probably really don't need any more sweaters, but I love cold weather sales and bargains. How I could I resist?

  1. Love, love, love this outfit--and, oh!, that sweater is divine! You crack me up with the Rum Raisin. I get a name in my head for something that I decide I like better than the real name, and it's a wrap.

  7. What a fun day to show up to lots of packages on your doorstep! I love that sweater and my vote goes to rum raisin too :) Mostly because it makes me think of ice cream, which always makes me happy. :)

    1. Ice cream makes me happy too and is another reason to love the name! Regarding the packages, they make for a fun day for me, but not so much for my husband. :)

  8. Your mind sounds like it works a lot like mine does. I'm constantly having to explain to my husband my train of thoughts as what I'm saying isn't as random as it seems hahaha. I also love that your husband freaks out at the sight of a pile of packages, much like mine does LOL. Love this outfit and I am forever going to see that sweater featured in your blogs and think Rum Raisin. Becuase you are right, rum is way better than oatmeal! Hope you are having a wonderful week so far gorgeous girl! XO -Kim

  9. Lovely sweater and yes this winter has been super mild compared to most, so I can see why stores are trying to get rid of them. Cute look Katie!

  10. I had never heard of the term rum raisin or that TV show you mentioned. That darling sweater is a steal though and I love it with the lilac bag and matching Pom charm. I ordered several thing at Nordstrom.com and they were shipped individually so I told them to ship them all to my local store and I went and picked them up there. It was convenient and this way my husband didn't get a heart attack lol.
