The One That Swam Away

Everyone has the one that got away. It's that one article of clothing that you pass up for one reason or another and then later kick yourself for. For me it was the J. Crew School of Fish skirt. I first came across it when I was in graduate school and living in New York. When I strolled into the new J. Crew store that had just opened in Rockefeller Center it caught my eye because I love fish. The price tag shocked me a little given that it was made of extremely lightweight cotton. Even when it went on sale, I remember holding it in my hand and debating if I should get it or not. Ultimately I passed it up.

When I came across the skirt years later on eBay I thought it was my lucky second chance, but then I realized this skirt must have been the one that got away for a bunch of other people too, as the biding was fierce and it went for way over what I thought it would sell for. Last week I had yet another chance when the skirt popped back up in my size. Luckily, it went for a more reasonable price and I walked away victorious. As you can see it turned out to be quite the "catch."

Are you currently hunting, stalking, fishing for or tracking down the one that got away?

    1. The cape sounds really cool. I've always wanted to try that look, but I'm afraid I wouldn't get too much use out of it here!
