It is pretty chilly here ( by L.A. standards ) which made for the perfect day to wear a big chunky fair isle sweater. This one is the fair isle ski sweater from J. Crew. The bright rainbow of colors in the collar is what initially drew me to this particular sweater. I was a little confused when I tried it on in the fitting room and it was difficult to get on due to a thick band that has been sewn into the chest and upper arms. My guess is that the band is put in place to keep the sweater from stretching out, which seems like a pretty good idea to me. If you are thinking of buying this ( I think they still have it in some stores) be forewarned that it does run a little big, and you can easily size down. I opted for a xxs as opposed to my usual xs for a more fitted look.
Initially I paired the fair isle sweater with a pair of navy slacks, with polka dots. This is how it is shown online by J. Crew, and I thought it might be fun to try. Unfortunately, when I looked at it put together in the mirror my gut said "this doesn't look quite right." Just to confirm my suspicions I came out to show my husband and he said "Whoa, that's a lot." So it was definitely too much, a real zonk so to speak. I went back and styled it a more traditional way with jeans and my Chloe boots. Much better!

I'd love to have seen a pic for comparison with the polka dotted pants. :) In any case, love how you paired your bright blue Prada tote with the outfit. The color combo ties in nicely between your Fair Isle sweater and the Prada bag charms inclusive! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought of doing a comparison too! Sadly, this occurred to me after I changed.
