Partridge in a Faux Tree

There is often an amusing story behind many of the photos I feature on my blog. For example, while taking these pictures, at least the ones where I am not wearing the faux fur stole, my husband put the collar on his shoulders as he was taking pictures. It really was quite the sight! He looked like he was a nobleman straight out of a painting from the Renaissance. Luckily, these photos were taken in a back alley, so only a few lucky passersby had the pleasure of seeing a grown man taking pictures in a big green fur collar. This incident reminds me of an article my friend sent me titled "The Husbands and Boyfriends of IG" that was all about the men who are the unsung heroes behind women with blogs and Instagram accounts. I think my favorite quote from the article was something like, "behind every cute girl on IG there is a wall and a boyfriend/husband that is a human tripod".

Husbands as tripods aside, I wore this outfit the weekend before Christmas because the forest green color of both the dress and the stole made me feel a little bit like a Christmas tree; it's sort of a different spin on holiday dressing. Normally, I wouldn't be one to wear a faux fur collar, but this stole was reduced quite drastically after Christmas last year at Anthropologie and was featured with this dress on a manikin, so I had to give it a try. It's not a look I would wear that often, but it was fun and it made me feel like I was from a different decade due to its vintage appeal.

To give the outfit just a little bit more "holiday appeal", I also added these gold flats. It's amazing how many people will outright stare at your feet if you are wearing sparkly gold shoes, but the number is probably less than it would be if you are a man wearing a woman's fur stole.

  6. As soon as I seen this look I had to comment I absolutely love it! That faux fur collar is gorgeous and so is the dress, Anthropologie is hands down one of my favorite stores. And then as I read about your husband I just had to laugh because my boyfriend goes through the same struggle. I have to admit though, it's always incredibly entertaining to see him hold such girlie accessories! :)

    1. Yes, Anthropologie is the best! I've loved that store since I was in college. Also, it's cute to hear about your boyfriend doing the same thing for you. It's amazing what they'll put up with! My husband often holds my purse for me and I always feel bad about that too.

  8. That is soooo true about my husband being the long suffering human tripod!
What a fabulous print that skirt is, Katie. As soon as I saw it, the colours and print immediately reminded me of the luscious and dense textiles William Morris was famous for designing in the Victorian era.

I can definitely see your point about the Morris textiles from the Victorian era. Perhaps I should of worn this to a Dickens' style Christmas party! Maybe next year!
