A Charming Story

Sometimes certain items just seem made for you because they strike a sentimental chord, so to speak. This bunny bag charm on my bag today is one of those items.  I had a pet rabbit named Sophie who hopped into my life the summer before I started graduate school in New York. She moved into my apartment in Manhattan that fall and I have to say she was probably among the most well-traveled bunnies out there. She ventured with me on several occasions to JFK airport, she took the train with me to and from Grand Central terminal, and she frequented the subway (in her carrier, of course!) on occasion. She even took a weekend excursion with me and my then boyfriend (now husband) to the Hamptons. When I moved out to Los Angeles after graduate school, she was right there with me. Actually, my dad drove her cross country in my car, which means she probably went to more states than the average person does in a lifetime!

I had Sophie for eight years before she passed away. The summer after her passing, I found this bag charm at Prada and it seemed just perfect for me since it reminded me so much of Sophie. It was a little pricey for just a few pieces of leather sewn together, but the sentimental value of the piece made it worth the price. Now I kind of feel like I am still carrying Sophie with me where ever I go, at least in memory.

While this bunny charm is no longer available, there are so many other cute charms that you can bedeck you bag with. Below I have selected my favorites that would look adorable on any bag. From quirky monsters to robots to all sorts of animals, there's definitely a charm for everyone's story. There's even a bunny one, if you're a bunny lover like me!

  3. That is such a cute story about Sophie. She certainly was very world-traveled. Fashion-wise that colorful embellished shell is stunning. Love the Prada bag with your precious charm once again. And it is so cool that you have lived in the two most fashionable cities in US and on both coasts.

  6. Aw, sweet story about Sophie. Our pets can mean so much to us. I still remember our hair ball of a cat - Treacle - who passed away two years ago.
That shirt is gorgeous - such unusual detailing around the bib which really make it. Hope the temperatures are easing off now for you.

  10. What a great story, Katie! And what an cool traveling companion Sophie must have been. I'm sure her presence (especially on the train) gave you the opportunity to interact with more people than you might have if she weren't present.

Love your outfit! The bold colors are really beautiful on you!

  11. That is such a sweet story. I used to have a mom and daughter jersey wooly rabbit pair and they are such sweet pets. They never traveled anywhere except for the vet, tho. ;) I love your bunny charm, that is such a great idea and your top is gorgeous, too.
