Matchy, Matchy in Bedrock

At first you might think I am wearing a dress, but look a little closer and you will see that my outfit is comprised of two separates: a blouse and skirt of the same fabric and print; it's somewhat of an optical illusion, I guess. A few years ago I saw J. Crew implement this idea of matching separates of the same print together in a catalog and I was pretty resolved that this matchy matchy style wasn't for me. However, when I ordered these two pieces in LOFT's delightfully abstract bedrock print, I thought I would give this technique a try. After all, pairing the two separates is how LOFT styled the pieces online, so why not be a copy cat? I did make some changes, though. First, I tucked in the shirt to give the illusion of one piece. (Plus, the top is really wide.) Second, in order put my own Hello Katie stamp on this idea, I added some colorful accessories.

I told my husband that these two pieces were actually a great investment because you can wear them together as a dress and then separately with other pieces to create infinite new looks. To this he replied, "You have an interesting idea of what an investment is."

  1. Gosh, I just adore that leopard clutch of yours...sadly it is a little out of my budget but it is so beautiful and goes so perfectly with your outfit!

    1. Thank you Chelsea! I wear this clutch so much, it seems to go with everything. Sometimes sites like Piperlime have extra 30% off everything promotions, including Clare V., so you can find the clutch at a slightly more affordable price.

    1. Thanks Shanna! I couldn't agree more. Husbands just don't get fashion, but I often don't get the stuff they are into either!
