Roadside Attractions

Last week my husband and I took a roadtrip to a little town in the desert called Las Vegas. Perhaps you've heard of it? I'm starting to realize that the old adage of "it's not the destination, but the journey that matters" is true. There are so many things to discover on the way to places like Las Vegas that these pit stops can be as equally entertaining and enjoyable as the destination itself.  For example, this little 50s diner called Peggy Sue's in Yermo that you'll discover below.

On a side note, I also learned that the journey to your destination can kill you, or at least come close to it. (Perhaps I should coin that adage?) We not only hit a massive amount of traffic on the way to Vegas, but we also hit a snow and ice storm on the way back that caused us to be stuck amongst other travelers on a mountain pass for hours. (This was in Southern California if you can believe it.) Well, I would prefer not to relive that traumatic ordeal, so here are a few pictures of what I wore to Las Vegas, taken at our first rest stop, the iconic Peggy Sue's Diner.

Can you believe that this dress was only $10? It certainly was a bargain, and so was stopping by Peggy Sue's Diner to take a glimpse at the gigantic jukebox that graces the entrance, not to mention the kitchy collection of dinosaurs outside the diner. We just popped in to use the restrooms and take a look around, but it was much more fun than your average truck stop. Had we been hungry, we would have definitely eaten lunch there.

So perhaps you are wondering why I am so dressed up for the roadtrip portion of our journey. Well, that all has to do with the destination. The night of our trip to Vegas, we had tickets to see Britney Spears' show "Piece of Me" at Planet Hollywood, (much to my husband's chagrin!). Just in case we arrived late due to traffic or a freak snow storm, I wanted to have my most fabulous self ready for a quick bite to eat and then the show.

I have a lot of guilty pleasures, but the music of Britney Spears just might be my biggest. I've been a "fan" since her first album came out, but I've never seen her in concert. Her show in Vegas seemed to be my big chance to see Britney live. What did I think of the show after waiting all these years? Apparently, Britney doesn't dance as much as she used to and for a lot of the show, her dancers just push her around on various props, but I guess that was good for me because it allowed me to take some cool photos for your enjoyment! I suppose that in this case the journey and the destination both had their pros and cons, but that's life!

    1. Thanks Jill! Yes, it was a very fun road trip to Vegas. The weather reminded me of living back east so I guess in that respect it was a nice change of pace!

  4. I am loving all of the photos! That diner looks like it would be so much fun! I saw another blogger that posted about seeing Britney in Vegas and said she was a little underwhelmed too. That's a bummer that you waited so long and it wasn't what you expected. You looked absolutely adorable tho!

    1. Thank you Julie! I am definitely going to eat at the diner on my next trip to Vegas. I also read a few online reviews of the show that were not so positive, so I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but I wanted to go never the less. Thanks for stopping by!
