Girl's Best Friend

Whoever said that diamonds are a girl's best friend never owned a dog. Diamonds won't wake you up in the morning wanting food, or take all of your covers in the bed, or slobber all over your new handbag. Hmm...maybe I should rethink this! Well, all jokes aside, few things can compare to the love of a canine companion, especially when that companion is an English Springer Spaniel. The breed is affectionately known as the "Velcro" dog due to their penchant for following their masters (or mistresses) around everywhere.

English Springer Spaniels are a somewhat rare breed and you don't see that many of them around, possibly due to their crazy temperaments, so I was very surprised to see this linen T-shirt from J. Crew with the visage of an English Springer Spaniel on it. Despite my excitement, I didn't buy the T-shirt right away because it retailed for $50, which I thought was absolutely crazy. (From an English Springer Spaniel's perspective, $50 almost buys a bag of Blue Wilderness Salmon dog food, which lasts about a month.) I waited for a sale on the T-shirt, which bears the likeness of my best canine friend, Colonel William van Winkle the Bard of Bardstown, and then snatched it up.

Of course I had to feature William in my post. It's a little difficult getting good pictures of him, as he is constantly on the move, but a treat helps him pay attention and gets him to look extra handsome.

Above, William focused on a treat.

William eating a treat.

William going back for a second treat in my hand! What else can we do but dance a little happy dance, as shown below? He's really the Fred Astaire of the dog world and I guess we both have our "tuxedos" on for the occasion!
