Caught Red Handed: Black Friday Shopping

Before Black Friday rolled around I was resolved not to go out shopping. I even officially declared my lack of interest in Black Friday on my last post. But alas, I, Katie, Black Friday shopped. I guess you can blame it on Anthropologie. First, I saw their email for an extra 25% off. Then I saw Sarah Vickers of Classy Girls Wear Pearls (curse you Sarah!) wearing this Larksong corduroy dress from Anthropologie. I was smitten with its whimsical print and decided to get it during Black Friday, figuring it might sell out before hitting the sale after Christmas. Given this logic, 25% off was better than nothing. Well, you can't just go to one store on Black Friday. I mean, if you're going to go through all the hassle and get up early for one store, you might as well check out the other stores too. It's sort of a deadly chain reaction of events and I am not sure who is to blame. I guess I should probably just blame myself!

Below you will see some of my other purchases. Some were snagged before Black Friday, but I am really excited about them and retailers like Brooks Brothers might also be having amazing Cyber Monday sales so I thought some of you might appreciate a heads-up on what's out there. Sorry if I am an enabler!

I bought the three pairs of shoes below from Brooks Brothers' 80% off shoe event a week or so ago. Each pair averaged out at about $33 - $40 marked down from almost $200 a pair. While I try to buy made in Italy, Spain or USA shoes when possible, the quality of these (made in China) is really exceptional for the price I paid and a real steal. Currently, Brooks Brothers is offering an extra 15% off everything including sale items and I wouldn't be surprised if they had a great Cyber Monday offer with these shoes too.

I went to Banana Republic with my husband on Friday before lunch because he wanted to look at some of their dress shirts when he learned they were 50% off. While he perused the shirts, I looked around for me. I've been wanting a 20s inspired tassel necklace and stumbled upon this one. It was full price with an extra 50% off, bringing it to $27.50. You can find it online here

Probably the best deals were at Nordstrom Rack. The outlet is having an extra 30% off clearance items. My local Nordstrom Rack had a few kate spade pieces that turned out to be excellent deals. I was able to score this kate spade watercolor print skirt for $40. They have some other pieces that are very kate spade inspired too. Above are a few that came home with me.

Last but not least, I picked up this midi skirt from Anthropologie. It was on clearance with an extra 25% off. In addition to clothing retailers, such as Anthropologie and Nordstrom we also went to peruse sundry items Target. Although we didn't get much else, Target was having 40% off all clothing. I bought this sweater, to match the skirt above, and some sweatpants. The sweatpants aren't so glamorous, so I'll just show the sweater!

I hope you had a restful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! Did you end up braving the Black Friday mobs? If so, what scores made it home with you from the busiest shopping day of the year? I'm curious to see what deals Cyber Monday holds, but I think I might just be better off not checking my emails. Perhaps I'd be better off not making any more promises!

  1. My no spend November was okay.. until I got to NYC. I did make it up by selling some items via tradesy though!

    1. NYC would just be too tempting, so I don't blame you! I will have to try Tradesy sometime. I've tried to sell things on eBay and a local resale shop but I wasn't fully satisfied with the experiences. Tradsey might be just the right alternative!
