Cape Chic

Capes are my new obsession this winter! I love how they instantly make any outfit insanely chic! Plus, here in Los Angeles, the weather is cold but not that cold, so capes are a convenient way to get a little bit of warmth without having to wear a huge, heavy coat. In this post, I'm going to feature two capes styled two different ways, starting with this black one, which was gifted to me courtesy of Chicwish.

The thing that initially drew me to this particular cape was the gold asymmetrical buttons. It makes the cape a little bit dressy so you can wear it with a skirt, just as I'm doing here, or, if you choose, more casually with jeans. I was planning on wearing this exact outfit on a trip up north to wine country (I thought it would look super chic among the vines!) but unfortunately we had to cancel the trip because both my husband and my dog got sick. Speaking of my husband, he says this cape makes me look like the character known as Social Services from Moonrise Kingdom but Tilda Swinton's character's cape was blue, not black in that movie. Also, for those of you who have seen the movie, hopefully I don't look as dour as Social Services!

The next cape is this buffalo print wool one that was a fantastic find and deal. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to go into a used clothing boutique because I have, on occasion, found some pretty great items there. Well, this visit proved to be successful as I spied this buffalo check plaid cape for only $27! It's from Talbot's and it also had the original $200 price tag still attached, so it was brand new! It was my size too, so, obviously, it was meant to be! While it is from a few years ago, I am linking below to a similar cape if you love the buffalo check fabric as much as I do!

For a whimsical take on this classic cape, I paired it with with quirky accessories and red pants for a pop of color.  I love these Kate Spade Taxi flats because you can wear them all year long and they always look perfect with black, white or red. I also chose this fun circular Petite Alistair bag from Clare V. to continue the playful vibe of this look. As you can see, I am ready to go anywhere with this classic, yet fun ensemble!
