A Parade of Homes in Beaufort

I don't claim to be an expert on architecture, but I have picked up on a few things through my travels and elsewhere on the subject. My attitude toward architecture is similar to my attitude toward fashion: I know what I like and what I don't like and my tastes are eclectic. When I ventured to South Carolina last week, I fell in love with a string of historic homes on the waterfront in the town of Beaufort. The homes, which originally mostly belonged to successful merchants and planters during the antebellum period, are now private residences, bed and breakfasts, businesses, and even one museum. The style of the homes is primarily Neoclassical, Federal and Greek Revival, but more importantly they are gorgeous!

The pictures below represent some of the houses I came across in my journey as well as views of the water and oaks with Spanish Moss. (Here's a fun fact: Spanish Moss is neither Spanish, nor moss. Go figure!) Tomorrow I am going to feature one of my favorite homes I discovered while on my trip...stay tuned!

  2. Those houses are gorgeous! I am definitely a lover of huge porches, which are unfortunately not as plentiful where I live as opposed to the South. I love all the beautiful trees, looks like such an amazing vacation spot! Hope you are having the BEST time. XO -Kim

    1. I also admire the huge porches, which we definitely don't have here in California. I would probably spend a lot of time sipping mint juleps out on my porch if I had one! Anyway, it really was a great trip!
