The Silver Lining

Today's outfit continues my inexplicable infatuation with all things metallic from sparkly glitter shoes to gilded gold elephants and now this rose print skirt with a silver metallic background. But maybe the attraction isn't so inexplicable after all. There's a theory I once heard to explain why humans are attracted to shiny things. Apparently, it has something to do with fish being attracted to shiny things and the idea that even though we are mammals, mammals evolved from fish at one point millions of years ago and we haven't yet shed this tendency to gravitate towards glistening objects. I am not sure to what extent I buy this theory hook line and sinker, but I guess it could be true.

The one flaw in the theory is that it doesn't explain why women seem to like shiny things so much more than men. Women love jewelery, especially encrusted in diamonds and in the case of women like me, shiny adornments on their clothing and accessories. Men however, seem to shy away from these ostentatious things, although they do like shiny cars, watches and collecting precious metals. So perhaps that pokes a hole in my theory too!
