Skulls and Slippers

The following post depicts the outfit I wore yesterday in celebration of Halloween. You might wonder, what does this outfit have to do with Halloween? Look a little closer and you will notice the embroidery on my velvet slippers. The skulls on these Zara smoking slippers are the perfect, subtle accessory for Halloween in my opinion. Velvet smoking slippers are something I have become quite obsessed with lately. If you are also obsessed with this style of shoe, read on because I am featuring various styles in this blog entry for you to check out.

While the other aspects of my outfit don't exactly scream "Halloween" I do think the Victorian style polka dot blouse could be considered a little, "spooky." The blouse is from Merona for Target. The grey Capri pants are also from Target. A budget outfit and there is nothing scary about that for your wallet!  You will see below my recommendations for budget smoking slippers below which will take the "fright" out of trying this recent trend.

Embroidered smoking slippers used to just be for aristocratic men in expensive smoking jackets with cigars and Scotch, but why should they have all the fun? My husband has wanted a pair of these type shoes for a very long time now along with a smoking jacket. I think he is a little jealous that I get to have all of the fun with these shoes! Originally I was looking at similar styles at Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, and J. Crew's Stubbs and Wootton. These shoes start at around $400 and go up from there. Since I am not sure if this trend will last or not, I decided to opt for the budget version of the style. As you can see, I went a little overboard, but for about $150 I was able to get all of these styles for a fraction of what the designer versions would cost. I realize there is a pretty big difference in quality, but it's a great way to have fun with a trend. This is just a side note, but I would totally wear the mustache slippers if I ever met Tom Selleck because of his ridiculously awesome mustache!

Going Clockwise: Zara Skull Slippers $49.90, Rock and Republic for Kohls Plaid Slippers on sale for $24.99, Zara Mustache Slippers $49.90, Zara Basic Velvet Slippers in Bordeaux $34.90
